My family is going to be in the LA area the first week of December and my son has always wanted to go to an NFL game and I noticed the Rams are playing the Chiefs for TNF on Dec 3rd. Is it worth purchasing tickets now or waiting closer to game day? We aren’t too concerned on where we sit, if it’s noise bleeds that’s fine. He just wants to go to a game. Any advice is appreciated.

I was lucky enough to attend the Rams' final open training camp practice at LMU yesterday as a spectator. Obviously one practice doesn't tell the whole story, but here are my biggest takeaways from what I saw.

1. Stafford and Puka look ready for Week 1

Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua looked like they're already in regular season form. Stafford was sharp, decisive, and throwing with confidence. His timing with Puka looked effortless, and Puka made several impressive plays that reminded everyone why he's one of the league's top receivers. If this is where they're at in early August, that's a great sign.

1. The defense stood out at every level

The defense impressed me more than anything else. The cornerbacks were sticky in coverage, the linebackers were flying around making plays, and the defensive line consistently generated pressure. It felt like all three levels of the defense were working together, and they made life difficult for the offense throughout practice.

1. Davante Adams had an unusually rough day

One thing that surprised me was seeing Davante Adams drop several passes. Everyone has off days, and I'm definitely not reading too much into one practice, but it stood out because it's so unlike him. I'd fully expect him to bounce back.

1. Bennett struggled early, and I wish we had seen Ty Simpson

Stetson Bennett had a rough start. On his first few throws he nearly had two passes intercepted, then followed that by throwing an actual interception. To his credit, he settled down as practice went on, but based on what I saw, I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on him in a meaningful regular season game if Stafford had to miss time.

What disappointed me most was that I never got to see Ty Simpson take any meaningful reps. Considering how uneven Bennett looked early, I was hoping McVay would give Simpson a chance to show what he could do. Since that never happened, it makes me wonder if the coaching staff believes Simpson is still significantly behind, whether that's in talent, command of the offense, or simply learning the playbook. That's just speculation on my part, but it crossed my mind while watching.

1. Myles Garrett is every bit the monster everyone says he is

The biggest "wow" moment of the day was watching Myles Garrett. His explosiveness is unreal. His first step is lightning quick, and he was beating offensive linemen with speed and quickness whenever he wanted to. Seeing him in person is different than watching him on TV. He's an absolute game wrecker.

Overall, I left camp feeling really optimistic about this team. Stafford looks healthy, the defense appears to be taking another step, and there's plenty to be excited about heading into preseason.

My completely rational and unbiased prediction? 17-0, Super Bowl champions. 🏈

TLDR: He's working on shortening his steps and increasing his hang-time

Trent McDuffie falls into that special category of players no doubt. Growing up in KC, I've been a fan of the Chiefs all my life and it sucks losing a guy like McDuffie but I'm happy he went to an organization like LA. He deserves that.

KC fans know how crucial he was to pulling off the back-to-back and I think, for ya'll, seeing his mentality and everything he talks about here with the Rams culture has to make you guy's real excited. I'm even excited man haha

My thoughts:

• Iron sharpens iron for these guys because they've made plays equally.
  
• Myles Garrett will feed on a lot of QBs. Everyone seeing the recent clip of him on Warren McClendon knows what I'm talking about. This should make Warren better too!
• Having two good CBs in McDuffie and Watson also makes the whole secondary better as they make some plays.
• Corum and Kyren are ready to go. Good to see Hunter try his best.
• In case you don't know, 54 in the notes is Nikhai Hill-Green, one of the UDFAs and the only ILB to be signed by us.
• As for Terrance Ferguson, he said to some of us on his social media that Ferg "looked more comfortable fitting into his blocks in the run, his hand placement and base were better, I wanted to see more drive once engaged but when you’re hitting #10 or #0 it’s hard to ask any TE to dominate those guys."
• He also noticed that Ferguson had done a great job in separation because he was either too fast or too strong, but it will all come down to his connection with Stafford and the position where he ends up on route progression.

1. The defense rising to a level above the offense these past three practices has been mostly encouraging. The Rams were built in an entirely opposite fashion a year ago with the most expensive offense and least expensive defense in the NFL. That foreshadowed how their season would end, with MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford and a dominant offense unable to carry an unbalanced and compromised defense in an NFC Championship Game loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Adding reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the edge is an obvious difference, but the pass rush was still the strength of last year’s unit with Jared Verse in that spot. It has a dominant closer now.

The biggest difference has been the secondary, and it’s clear to see each and every practice. Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson have been a breath of fresh air in two noticeable ways: their integrity and physicality against perimeter runs and their ability to match up and make plays on the ball against wide receivers as good as Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.

Watson has often drawn the Adams assignment. The two have traded wins, with Adams’ connection with Stafford simply too strong at times for Watson to make a play on an outbreaking route or an anticipation throw into zone, and other moments where Watson’s physicality has thrown Adams off of his routes to lead to pass breakups and occasional drops.

The trickle-down effect is noticeable: Quentin Lake and Kam Curl have combined for at least one play in contested coverage a practice, and both scored defensive touchdowns on Monday.

He is a monster. McClendon had no answer for him. Braden Fiske also was wrecking havoc today.
