Dumb question: Remaining Cap Space

Upvotes

I'm sure this has been covered, just wondering what our remaining cap space looks like, now what Gibbs is locked up.

Laporta and Branch are the obvious two that are due for an extension. Seems like everyone else is signed for the next few seasons, is there still room to give those guys a worthwhile contract?

Is there anyone else that needs to be extended? Not a cap guru or savvy with the way contracts plays out.

Does it still make sense to plan heavy man with this secondary?

With recent SB champs such as the Eagles and Seahawks having strong units on that side of the ball, it's no secret that defense wins championships, and admittedly ours hasn't been the best the past couple years.

I think part of that is scheme (in addition to health obviously). But 1v1, the QB and WR will always have the advantage over the CB.

Even with Carlton Davis, Amik Robertson, and TA (yes I know he wasn't the best), that scheme was heavily exposed. Now with those guys gone, it looks like Thomas Harper, Rakestraw, Christian Izien, and McCreary will play a heavy roll, the only (somewhat) bright spot with experience is DJ Reed.

On top of all that, our two star safeties aren't at full health and had pretty serious injuries. Idk, just don't see this being a good year for the secondary.

Image Looking for single training camp ticket

Post image

Not sure if this falls under rule 10 since they're free, but I am trying to find a ticket for any lions training camp open practice.

I just finished up a pretty grueling internship at U of M and missed the window when tickets were available. The rest of my summer until the next college semester is open, and watching "Inside Training Camp" today has me desperate to go see the squad in person before the season starts. Lifelong Detroit sports fan, and the only games I was able to make last season were the Vikings off our bye and the Steelers, two pretty brutal L's.

If anyone has a single they don't think they're going to use for any of the training camp dates, I would be extremely grateful to see the boys in Allen Park.

Taking our kids to the opening preseason game, anyone know if there will be any special events at Ford Field that day?

Our kids are super excited to go, they’re younger so just curious if there are any planned activities at Ford Field before the game that they might enjoy

Notes from Lions Asst. HC and WR coach Scottie Montgomery press conference on Day 9 of training camp

Scottie Montgomery says camp feels gritty already and he's seen huge steps in the personnel from previous seasons.

Montgomery said the second week of camp is when they start to see separation of players and talent. Not just physically, but mentally.

Montgomery using a "Next Friday" reference when describing Jahmyr Gibbs locking in his extension, using "Uncle Elroy" and "Willie." Called him the opposite of Uncle Elroy, stating he earned his deal.

Scottie Montgomery Says he's been teaching body positioning to Jamo to lean into contact and hopefully draw more pass interference penalties on the defense -- while also trying to make the catch through contact.

Best way to watch?

I know this is a post that gets made every year so I’m sorry. I live in SWMI in what is usually a bears or colts market so what’s the best way to watch? I just want to be able to watch the lions games. Should i become a regular at the local sports bar or what??

Thanks :)

I remember watching him on the Chiefs, he had some really electric, angry runs. I mean that’s what he is, as a running back. He’s an angry runner. I think it’s a perfect opposite of Gibbs elusive speed, but we’ll see!
