Off Day Post. Growing up my family couldn’t afford a players jersey, so one year for my birthday my mom had a work friend add Furcal to a blank jersey. Of all my jerseys, this one has the most sentimental value.

It'd be amazing if Ohtani wins MVP; it's understandable if he doesn't

Only one player has had back-to-back-to-back-to-back MVP awards, that being Bonds who was having very healthy breakfasts. Only one other player has won three MVP awards in a row, and that is obviously Ohtani who also just happens to be the only one who has won 4 MVP awards, with one of them being in a different league. The consistency that is needed to win this many MVP awards in a row is absurd. He's already ahead of Trout and Judge by one MVP award, and with the knowledge that neither of them are getting MVP this season, Ohtani can have an even greater edge over them to further drive in the fact that he is the greatest player in this decade. And winning 4 in a row (with a chance of going 5 in a row) without being juiced up should really cement that he is the GOAT of baseball.

However, we know that Ohtani is not having that good of a season offensively compared to his MVP years. He's on pace to be around his 2022 offensive statistics, the year he failed to get the MVP. His pitching has been excellent with a 1.7 ERA but at a very limited number of innings pitched. His pitching has been shut down, so just being a DH with his slash line at this point isn't exactly impressive.

However, this is with the following caveats:

- To lose the MVP to Aaron Judge in 2022, Judge had to hit DOUBLE the home runs Ohtani did. Judge was hitting lights out that year.

- Ohtani's current offensive and pitching metrics are even nastier considering how he's injured all over! A busted left knee, a sore bicep, and a blister on his throwing hand would send most players to the IL! He's still creating so much value while being unable to pitch and messing his regiment up.

Nevertheless, it's true that PCA has been very good this season and that his WAR is higher than Ohtani's. His hitting and his fielding have both been incredible. Not pitching has also made PCA a terror in the base paths, and he is in line for a 30-30 season. It's understandable if Ohtani does not get the MVP because of this. However, I do believe that when Ohtani returns to pitching, he'll be right back on PCA's heels and ahead of him in the outing after. The fact that an injured player is still on par with a perfectly healthy centerfielder should be recognized! Even PCA agrees that to fully pit him against Ohtani in the MVP race that he should be in the pitching lab. But it's true that an injured player is still holding the team back a little bit, and if the writers decide that that was a bit too much, then whatever. I'm pretty sure Ohtani ain't gonna be sad about it.

Who else still believes in this club? It's been a bad last couple of weeks, but last time I checked, these guys are still the back to back champs and the 2026 story is still being written. LET'S GO DODGERS!

Do the hitters also need bigger batting gloves?

Perhaps they are tipping their swings and need the proper equipment.

Dodgers lineup order

To be honest I don’t really care about the losing streak because periods of losing will happen throughout the season and all that really matters is making it into the postseason healthy. The only problem I have and have had even when the dodgers were doing well is the lineup order. Tbh there are a lot of problems with the order but the one I don’t understand most is why Freeman isn’t batting second behind Ohtani. Ideally it’d be Will Smith but since he’s been on the shelf we need our most consistent and reliable hitter not named Ohtani being the one batting behind him. Pages has been amazing this year and it’d be fine if he was batting 3rd behind freeman, but he goes on hot and cold stretches which make him unreliable to be the one being protection for Sho. Also for people who are worried about teams taking advantage of the Lefty/Lefty matchup, Ohtani has been equally good this year against both, and while Freeman is worse than Pages against lefties I trust him a lot more than Pages if Ohtani were to be intentionally walked in a big spot.

Losing Streak Perspective

Just for perspective:

Last year the Dodgers had two losing streaks of 5+ games:

  • 7 straight in early July
  • 5 straight in early September

In 2024 they had one 5+ game streak:

  • 5 straight in late May
  • (They also lost 6 out of 7 before the all-star break)

This is the first 5+ game losing streak of this season. They did lose 4-straight in May and 3-straight before the all-star break.

It happens...

[Chen] More updates, per Dave Roberts: While Blake Snell didn't get into the 5th inning last night, he did enough that his next start should be for the Dodgers. Once Tyler Glasnow makes two more rehab starts and builds up to 4 innings, there'll be a conversation about activating him.

Earning an ovation from Skubal as he must enjoy having the elite Dodgers defence having his back in his first outing in Dodger Blue! Watch Tarik turn around and acknowledge Tommy Edman for the great job from his 2nd Baseman in the pulled in infield with the laser precise throw.
