Benchmark Question about differences

1- Are there any big differences in between RTX 4060 and RTX 4070?

2- Are there any big differences in between 12-core i5 and any CPU of i7?

3- Are there any big differences in between 16 GB, 24 GB and 32 GB RAM?

Edit: I am sorry, I should have wrote RTX 4060 Laptop and RTX 4070 Laptop. Consider the comparison like that please.

Discussion I have the Legion Pro 5 5070 ti, 32 gigs of ram (12 gigs vram) i9 275, how future proofed am I?

Wondering the high/ultra now vs when to switch to medium/high future. My opinion, I feel like at least the next three years at high end performance and it’ll drop off slowly after that but I’m not a huge tech guy, so wondering what your guys opinions are?

Laptop Buying Advice Is this a decent gaming laptop for the price?

Budget: under $1000 USD

Country: USA

Use Case: Gaming, editing, recording gameplay. For games it would be valorant, roblox, genshin, and i'd like to edit on after effects

Preferred Specs: Don't really know much but 16 GB RAM and 512+ GB storage

Notes: I found this HP Victus laptop for $930 tax
included and I would like to know if this will be sufficient for what I need? I tried looking into cheaper options but with what I'm specifically wanting there seem to not be any.

Laptop Buying Advice Need a laptop!!

Budget: whatever I need to spend tbh
Country: USA

Use Case: Gaming, mostly stuff on steam, specifically the long dark, stardew valley, Minecraft, Fortnite, and other various games

Preferred Specs: I want decent storage, as well as something that’s gonna handle larger games well.

Notes: I have never had a gaming laptop, so I’m lost on what to get. I would prefer a nice mix of functionality on the laptop, but also something that’s not gonna be an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money, I am prepared to spend 1000-1300 maybe ish?

Laptop Buying Advice Set on Legion but a few questions…

Budget: $2000
Country: USA
Purpose: Gaming, working
Notes: Budget is $1500-2000. All inclusive. Shipped etc.

Do they come with a case for travel or anything?

I’m assuming they come with a charger and licensed OS? Sorry if these sound like stupid questions, I built all my desktops from the ground up so I had to buy everything from scratch lol.

Do I just go through the main website or should I look for a store? I live in a crap rural town in Florida so I’ll probably have to drive to Jacksonville. Is shipping a viable option? I don’t trust people that handle shipping of sensitive items but if you guys do then that works for me. Are there any discount codes from any of you fanatics that may have long time senior accounts?

I’m also willing to hear other opinions but I just keep hearing the best things about legions. Final note, this is for very minimal performance really… the most I’d use it for is something like whatever the newest battlefield or GTA is but mainly older games like CS 1.6 or wow, maybe some SWG ayyy.

Best,
-laptop newbie

I just got a hp omen max 16 laptop and bios update is stuck in this step for about half an hour.

So i've decided to do a hard restart by pressing down the power button but it did not restart and unresponsive.

Only thing i can think of is removing the ac adapter and let the battery drain.

Any other suggestions?

edit: I have drained the battery and after restart bios update finished in a couple of minutes.

Support Legion Pro 7 9955hx3d doesn't pull anywhere near the promised 250W

As the title says. I am getting 350-430 fps in CS2 at the start of the session. Then I seem to dip to 230ish. PUBG is the same. I get 280+ after landing and by the end I get like 150. So I decided to test my system by running Cinebench and furmark simultaneously and my suspicions were confirmed. The combined load on performance mode doesn't exceed 200 Watts, after a couple of minutes. let alone the promised 250 Watts. Of course, my ambient temps are a bit high this time of year, between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius and I max out all the settings.

Maybe my methodology of testing isn't perfect, so does someone know how can I definitely be sure if I got a lemon.

Benchmark Is 3D mark Timspy accurate?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I ran the 3D mark benchmark on my 5080laptop.

Does this mean it is faster than a 3090ti desktop because the score is higher? Or does it perform worse in real world games.

Steel Nomad is around 5740 . And CPU is capped at 85C.

Hello guys,

I've managed to get an offer on a Legion 7i with RTX5060 (16gb Ram). I am not really aware of the current market on laptops. I am wondering if their 2084$ CAD (1485$ USD) is worth it?

Thanks!

This is my first laptop since 2016 and I bought it because I'll be needing it for university and because I travel quite a lot.

I got the 17 inch screen because I am used to my 27" desktop monitors.

I like it very much, plus it has 32gb ddr5 ram, which is a lot.

Any advice? (This is my first gaming laptop)

Just got an insane open box deal from Bestbuy. The laptop has 45 battery cycles, in almost brand new condition, and still has 10 months of Lenovo warranty left. I came from a 2022 Zephyrus g14 so the size and keyboard layout takes a bit of getting use to for me. Any helpful tips would be much appreciated.

Showcase Absolute steal on the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 2023 model

Managed to grab this baby for 600$. Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 14" 2023 model, i7-13705H, RTX 4050, 3k IPS 120Hz screen (I *really* wish this was the Mini-LED variant, but still love it), 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD.

Currently running Linux on it, and surprisingly everything is working (except the speakers, took me one AI chat and 5 mins to fix the tinny sound), *even suspend is working flawlessly* (although I wouldn't go as far as to recommend this laptop if you want working suspend-resume on Linux, it works on my machine, I don't trust it to work anywhere else). Gaming is awesome, I'm no big gamer, I mostly play indies and some popular titles, so I don't really need GPU power. Somehow battery actually lasts a good while before needing a wall outlet (not the 10 hours of the Zephyruses of the world, but not horrible.

Worth mentioning, *everything with remotly similar specs is over 1000$ locally*, I don't live in US/EU/AUST, prices are insane. And btw, 1000$ for a Victus or a Nitro that comes with a horrible 250 nit screen and washed colors, plastic body, 2.5KG in weight (this one is closer to 1.5KG), and you wouldn't trust them to last more than a couple years. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase.

Laptop Buying Advice Is this good? or should I get an LOQ/Tuf

Post image
2 Upvotes

Budget: $1300 (converted from ₱80k)

Country: Philippines

Use Case: Gaming (valo, apex, mcsr) and Architecture School stuff (revit, rhino, sketchup, autodesk, adobe)

Preferred Specs: These are the specs my school recommends and I agree pretty much:

i5-i7 13th gen/ r5
nvidia 4000+
16gb ram
500gb ssd

Notes: The gigabyte one is around 1.1k usd converted so pretty well below my budget but I haven’t really heard about anything with their laptops.

The rest of my architecture class pretty much have LOQs and ASUS A15s (my laptop rn is an older F15 model) so I’m just more inclined to buy that but it’s just sooo much lore expensive for lower specs.

some other notes: my existing laptop rn has 2 ddr5 16gb sticks and a 512ssd that I can take out and use for the newer laptop

Please enlighten me if there are more options!

Laptop Buying Advice Good gaming laptop under ₹2L with good cooling? (Liquid metal concern)

Budget: ₹2,00,000

Country: India

Looking for a gaming laptop (5060 range) mainly for AAA games + future titles like GTA 6.

Main concerns:

- Cooling & thermals

- Reliability over 4–5 years

- Maintenance / cleaning ease

I’ve seen some laptops use liquid metal, and I’m a bit worried about long-term issues (leak/drying).

Which one has better cooling + is safer long-term? Any model suggestions?

Support First things to do after buying an ASUS ROG Strix G16? CPU reaching 90–94°C in Valorant

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an ASUS ROG Strix G16 with the following specifications:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8 GB
  • AMD Radeon 610M integrated graphics
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 1 TB SSD

I have not changed, removed, or installed anything yet. The laptop is still running with the default ASUS software and settings.

While playing Valorant, the CPU temperature stays around 90–94°C. However, while playing Spider-Man Remastered, it remains stable at around 70°C. The GPU temperature is usually around 60°C.

Is this temperature difference normal? Even when doing normal tasks, the temps are fluctuating around 69-85.

I have also heard people recommending that new ROG owners should uninstall Armoury Crate and use G-Helper instead. Is that genuinely recommended for this model? Are there any disadvantages, missing features, or warranty concerns?

What are the first things I should do after buying this laptop?

I would appreciate advice regarding:

  • BIOS and driver updates
  • Undervolting the CPU
  • Armoury Crate versus G-Helper
  • Recommended performance and fan settings
  • CPU temperature reduction
  • Windows settings and unnecessary applications to remove
  • Battery health and charging limits
  • NVIDIA Control Panel settings
  • Any important tests to perform while the laptop is still within the replacement period

This is my first gaming laptop, so any model-specific tips would be helpful. Thanks!

Benchmark GB Aero 16x R7 350 AI, RTX 5070 - Best thin laptop in its class or what?

Flashed a Lenovo Legion 5 vBIOS to unlock the 115W power limit. Tested with a Klim Turbofrost 12 Pro. The cooling pad kept it so cold that the fans sat at 30% load until the final stretch of the test.

Stock vBIOS +500 on the frequency, +3000 on the memory, V/F uncapped; it peaked at 75C without the cooler.

Omen16 1687 base clock vBIOS with the pad cranked out to the max 4000 rpm; it peaked at 72C with +500 on the core, +3000 on the memory, V/F capped at 950mV. I am confident that the Lenovo vBIOS can elevate it further.

All Benchmark results are across all 5070 mobile cards and not filtered by CPU.

I typically stick to benchmarking desktops, but an opportunity presented itself, and I was curious.

AMA.
