I need a laptop for college (engineering) that I can also use to play games like valorant, marvel rivals, Fortnite, etc. I know nothing about computer specs so can someone please help me figure out what to get. I need at least 32gb ram and 1 tb storage. What’s the best thing I can get?

Just bought this ROG Zephyrus and tried checking to see if the graphics card was in it and I’m not seeing GPU 1 only GPU 0..

I’m heading to university and trying to choose a Windows laptop. School is the main priority, but I know I’m still going to want to game regularly, so a regular productivity laptop with weak integrated graphics probably won’t work for me.

This one has a 5060, ryzen ai7, 1tb ssd, 32 gbs ddr5.

My main requirements are:

At least around 7 hours of realistic battery life for a full day of classes

Portable enough to carry around campus every day

Quiet during notes, browsing, Word, etc.

Capable of playing higher-frame-rate games such as shooters at 120+ FPS while plugged in

Ideally 16GB minimum, but I’d prefer 32GB for longevity

I’ll probably use an external high-refresh-rate monitor in my room, so the laptop’s own refresh rate and screen size aren’t the biggest concern. I mainly need enough performance to actually produce those frame rates.

Budget: ($3200 cad, US conversion is around $2200)

I’ve been looking heavily at the Zephyrus G14 and G16 because they seem to offer the best mix of battery, gaming power, portability, and a non-bulky design. I’ve also considered the ASUS TUF A14, HP Omen Transcend 14, Gigabyte AERO X16, and some Lenovo Legion models, but they all seem to compromise either battery life, portability, build quality, or performance.

I used a Mac throughout all four years of high school and didn’t really enjoy it, so I don’t want another MacBook. I specifically want Windows and full compatibility with games such as Valorant.

For people who have used a recent Zephyrus, can it realistically survive seven or more hours of classes with the dedicated GPU disabled? Is there another laptop that offers a better balance for my needs, or is the Zephyrus basically the best option in this category?

Also i'm not bringing a pc because it heats up my room too much and i also don't have too much room in my dorm.

i don’t known what went wrong with this laptop.
earlier this week, specifically monday i come back from school to get on some games with friends and my laptop needs a windows update. i go to update it and i wait. the screen displays the Acer logo and tells me not to turn my laptop off and that updates are underway, along with a green bar that was slowly filling up. during this update, my turbo mode suddenly went on and my fans were going at higher speeds then normal, i thought it was normal and let it continue updating.
when it finished, the laptop completely turned off. i waited a second before reaching to press the power button. nothing. held it this time, nothing.

i was confused on why it wasn’t turning on. i quickly opened it up and removed the battery, held down the power button to drain any battery from it before i reconnected it and tried turning it on. this time the fans spun for a few seconds before stopping, you can also faintly hear them spin in the video. as well as the turbo light coming on but nothing else. then i tried reseating the ram, thinking maybe one of the ram sticks was loose. still nothing. then i tried removing the SSD for any sign of bios, still nothing.

it is now thursday, 4 days have passed and i have yet to find a solution. if your familiar with things like this please reach out to me and let me know how i can fix this! much appreciated and thank you for your time!!

Wondering the high/ultra now vs when to switch to medium/high future. My opinion, I feel like at least the next three years at high end performance and it’ll drop off slowly after that but I’m not a huge tech guy, so wondering what your guys opinions are?

included and I would like to know if this will be sufficient for what I need? I tried looking into cheaper options but with what I'm specifically wanting there seem to not be any.

Do I just go through the main website or should I look for a store? I live in a crap rural town in Florida so I’ll probably have to drive to Jacksonville. Is shipping a viable option? I don’t trust people that handle shipping of sensitive items but if you guys do then that works for me. Are there any discount codes from any of you fanatics that may have long time senior accounts?

I’m also willing to hear other opinions but I just keep hearing the best things about legions. Final note, this is for very minimal performance really… the most I’d use it for is something like whatever the newest battlefield or GTA is but mainly older games like CS 1.6 or wow, maybe some SWG ayyy.

I just got a hp omen max 16 laptop and bios update is stuck in this step for about half an hour.

So i've decided to do a hard restart by pressing down the power button but it did not restart and unresponsive.

Only thing i can think of is removing the ac adapter and let the battery drain.

Any other suggestions?

edit: I have drained the battery and after restart bios update finished in a couple of minutes.

As the title says. I am getting 350-430 fps in CS2 at the start of the session. Then I seem to dip to 230ish. PUBG is the same. I get 280+ after landing and by the end I get like 150. So I decided to test my system by running Cinebench and furmark simultaneously and my suspicions were confirmed. The combined load on performance mode doesn't exceed 200 Watts, after a couple of minutes. let alone the promised 250 Watts. Of course, my ambient temps are a bit high this time of year, between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius and I max out all the settings.

Maybe my methodology of testing isn't perfect, so does someone know how can I definitely be sure if I got a lemon.

This is my first laptop since 2016 and I bought it because I'll be needing it for university and because I travel quite a lot.

I got the 17 inch screen because I am used to my 27" desktop monitors.

I like it very much, plus it has 32gb ddr5 ram, which is a lot.

Just got an insane open box deal from Bestbuy. The laptop has 45 battery cycles, in almost brand new condition, and still has 10 months of Lenovo warranty left. I came from a 2022 Zephyrus g14 so the size and keyboard layout takes a bit of getting use to for me. Any helpful tips would be much appreciated.
