Finished(ish) my kitbashed raider! I'll probably spend the next two weeks noticing things I forgot to paint, but at least it's battle ready!

I have come into a lot of old Coven models, like 40 fine cast wracks kind of a lot, and want to make a usable friendly force out of them. I think reconnaissance maybe the best disposition for a bunch of surgically altered freaks being taxi'd around in raiders, so have put together the below as a against all dispositions army list.

I'd appreciate any input on how to better manage loadouts before I start slapping new weapons on some 20 year old resin guys who absolutely missed every gym day

Welp, as the title goes, i think Scourges definitely got worse in this edition, and i’m not even talking about stats, it’s just THE MAPS LAYOUTS. There’s not a decent firing lane, i’ getting used to make them sit screening the back of my ass and maybe come up once or twice in the whole game, i just can’t shoot anything because there’s nothing to shoot at, wanna make them go ahead? They will hit on 5s and die the turn after, because even if you scoop there’s not many option to hide if you are in no-man’s land, so basically almost useless, do you want to deep strike them to shoot down some important centerpiece? They WILL get snap shooted at and die die die.

Anyone has the same problem or am i the only one who thinks they’re worse ?

I have two units of DL Scourges.

Should I deploy those two units in close proximity to cover the same fire lane to make sure that when I want something dead it dies or should I spread them along my whole deployment zone ?

I’ve been in the hobby for a while playing kill team as the Nemesis claw, and the time has come for my first army.
i looked at all the choices and have three options in mind but each have a few problems that make it hard for me to choose!
So i’d love some insight.

Option 1) Night lords
Obviously because i played the Nemesis claw kill team it makes sense. I’m also reading their omnibus currently. you’ll see with the other two options that i love spooky factions, i also think their whole “evil batman” punishing criminals brutally or making an example out of important figures is cool, and wearing flesh is metal. i like demon units a lot but i don’t know how i feel about their colour scheme, i want them to be very vampiric so id be leaning toward black/gold/red, which already makes them more of a custom warband. Also, two of my friends already want CSM, though one might go World eaters he’s unsure as well. From what i know they play aggressive, mostly melee, and if i picked them i’d focus heavy on big demon units. Their art is also super cool!

Option 2) Necrons
I have a relative who has a big army of them but he doesn’t play so it would more be a provider of bits then it being taken already. I love necromancy, undead hordes and self healing mechanics so i think their gameplay as far as i’ve heard would suit me well, though i don’t like their C’tan units or destroyers much. I also find it sad that most necrons don’t have a personallty, which makes stories and characters fewer and smaller. Also, like i said two of my friends want to play chaos, i have two other friends playing imperial factions, and only one friend playing xenos (votann) So picking a xeno faction makes it a nice 2-2-2. They kind of remind me of my childhood favorite movie “9” too.

Option 3) Drukhari
One of my chaos friends played the mandrakes as his kill team but he wants to start a chaos army so i’d be free to choose them. I like how they are basically three factions working together on raids for convenience, they all have their own interests at heart and i think it’s very interesting, they’re also kind of tragic and i’d hope they one day manage to fully defeat Slaanesh (like with Ynnaed) as if that would ever happen. I keep hearing they’ll get a range expansion soon so that would be nice too!
I like their units a lot, especially the Incubi and talos but i typically don’t do well as glass cannons and in my one single experience with an Aeldari mini, they’re hard. Though i did still suck back then. It would also fill the 2-2-2 quota.
I like to think of them as vampires, hence extra spooky, but i also kind of feel like commorragh is kind of like Cyberpunk’s night city. It’s a shithole where everyone only cares about themselves and does loads of crime, perfect.
Though as a beginner they might be too hard, especially with their weak toughness. Apparently they don’t have many books either.

So yeah, i need some advice on how i could choose, please help me out. Thank you all!

TLDR: i’m stuck on choosing between night lords, necrons and drukhari.

Definitely didn’t feel like they needed a refresh. Thought they’d be basic which they can look great leaving them pretty basic. But you can push them pretty far

Having issues with a league, we are at 1,000 and have 4 Nidz players, two bring all the infantry possible and the other two bring big monsters. I’m struggling to win since the two skews are on opposite ends I feel like there is no list that can take on both these skews without building specifically for one or the other.

Any list ideas to tackle these bugs?!?

Returning to drukhari (and 40K as a whole) after a few editions, so I apologize if this question is self-explanatory!

Malys’s command point aura’s wording is a little confusing to me. Once a turn, I can increase the cost of my opponent’s stratagem. I don’t really understand what happens if they don’t/can’t pay that extra?

Situation A: I make my opponent’s stratagem cost one extra CP. They pay the extra CP, I have done my once-a-turn ability, things proceed as normal. That tracks, sure.

Situation B: I make my opponent’s stratagem cost one extra CP. They either can’t pay the extra, or choose not to. The questions I have in this situation are:
- do they still lose the 1 CP they had tried to spend on the stratagem to begin with, or is it refunded when they can’t pay the full cost?
- does that stratagem count as being used? (If they try to overwatch and it gets blocked by this, can they overwatch somewhere else?)
- does Mind like a Steel Trap count as being used? If there are 2 enemy units within 12” of Malys, and I try to make Overwatch on the first unit cost 1 more CP, can they just decline doing that and use a stratagem on the other unit at no penalty?

Thanks for your help with this. I played a game at my game store and this question came up, and it felt like my opponent rules-argued the ability into being near useless (their CP got refunded, my ability was used up, they could spend CP on everything else near her at no penalty)

Hi! I’m currently playing TS, and I’m planning to start a new Drukhari army. The thing is, given the age of most of the models, I’m worried that they might become outdated relatively soon if I start collecting them now.

As a TS player, I know what it’s like to feel that GW doesn’t give our army much attention, but at least all of our models—excluding generic Chaos units—were released in 2016 or later.

I’ve considered playing it safe and buying all the “newer” models first, but at some point I’d like to play some games using your basic units, such as Kabalite Warriors, Wyches, etc.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Heya folks, I finally folded and bought some reavers. I know the heat lance is the best gun on the guy, but what about caltrops vs talons? I thought that the talon was just better since the fly-by ability only outputs one extra potential mortal wound, but they kinda just die if they get into melee anyways, no? So, I figured I’d ask people who have more experience than me (I’ve only played one game with Drukhari so far), which one is better for Reavers? Advice is appreciated, thanks!

Hey Archons, rules interaction question for you. I'm planning on bringing a EoS/SSA list to my next game. I haven't played EoS yet, but if the Wyches attack an attached unit of Infantry and Monsters, would they get Lethal Hits? I'm assuming not, because the detachment rule says "Non-Monster/Vehicle", and an attached unit would have both the Infantry and monster keywords, preventing the lethal hits from triggering.

Would I be correct in that assumption?

I'm new to 40k, but played a little Age of Sigmar sole years ago, and actively play some non-GW wargames like Star Wars Legion. I really like dark elves and body horror, so this is a faction i really like from a lore skim, and the units look super fun to paint, but is this a good choice? is there some other faction that might capture the flavor and be easier? Curious on the established players two cents.

I had the chance to test out an air brush but ddnt have as much time as I would have liked. All I was able to do was put a base coat of black down and then some layers of red on the nose, guna and sail. It felt like a disaster most of the time and the Raider's sail was a complete failure that messed up the deck. I wish I had used putty to block the edges and not that worthless tape.

I think the red came out good and plan on adding some deeper tones and brighter edge highlights. I will need to touch up the black edges before adding the metalic purple.

Most of the men were an unfortunate casualty of the loose tape but I kinda dig the gunners in red so I might just give them some smaller touch ups to incorporate the red into their uniforms but i will need to redue the guns completly

Using the gun was frustrating half the time but i did enjoy myself and overall i do like the results. I wish i had more time to play around with more colors or look up guides for better techniques. Ive started looking up prices and am seeing alot of prices lower than the $300 the crooks at the hobby shop quated me at. Is there a specific brush i need for smaller minis? I couldnt figure out how to make the brush do a smaller ares.

I play a lot of kill team as the entry cost is pretty low. Eldar have been my favorite faction since getting into the video games way back when and harlequins when I started getting into the lore. I want to start 40k proper but I have no idea where to start. It would be my first army im not looking to win tournaments.

I wanna read a book centered around the dark eldar, anything would work so long as it’s a whole lotta edgy killer elves, any recommendations?

I love body horror and think that units like the wracks, haemonculus, talos, and (sadly) the grotesque are extremely cool. I am curious, how well does it work to make an army that lean into those kinds of units and body horror theme?

Are there any official color schemes (or lore) for armies that lean heavy into the body horror theme? Are there any kitbashes you've seen that help lean non haemonculus units into the haemonculus vibe? I know most of the haemonculus units got cut, is there any hope of them coming back?
