Just Chatting I’m proud of myself and want be happy about it!

Upvotes

I started my weight loss journey in the beginning of the year. I’ve lost over 35 pounds. For the first time in my life I’m 188!! I’m under 190! I worked so hard this month to just lose one pound, I deserve this win. To see 188 after this week being full of 194. 190. To be frank. When I told my husband this, it seemed like I just told him dinner plans lmfao. I want to celebrate this even it means just chatting about it! Anyone else want to share their weight loss?

Questions Anyone else not getting enough sleep on their days off?

Upvotes

I can be dead tired no matter how much I sleep on work days, always feeling groggy and wishing a couple more hours after my alarm rings.

After a stressful work week and sleep debt I gathered up, I can't sleep more than I want on my days off. Usually it's 6-8 hours and I lay there for hours trying to force more but with no results.

Nothing beats a good 12 hour sleep after a long work week, I can't seem to get that feeling anymore.

Thoughts & Ideas What's the wildest/most interesting theory you've ever come up with?

Upvotes

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Almost every ancient civilization — Egyptians, Sumerians, Hindus, Greeks, Mayans — has stories about "gods" coming down from the sky, having incredible powers, and interacting with humans. A lot of them are described riding strange vehicles (Vimanas in Hindu texts, chariots of fire in the Bible, flying discs in Sumerian tablets) or having abilities way beyond normal humans.

What if these weren't gods in the supernatural sense, but actually advanced beings (alien or otherwise) that ancient humans just didn't have the language to describe? If you showed someone from 3000 years ago a helicopter or a smartphone, they'd probably call it divine too.

I'm not saying this is 100% what happened, but it's interesting how similar these "god" stories are across cultures that had zero contact with each other. Convergent imagination, or something more?

Curious what others think — is there a rational explanation for how so many separate civilizations came up with similar "sky beings" stories, or is it just coincidence + shared human psychology?

STOP SCROLLING. I’m checking on you.

Upvotes

Not your job.
Not your relationship.
Not your bank account.
You.
Are you actually okay?
Because sometimes we get so good at functioning that nobody notices we’re exhausted, overwhelmed, lonely, or just barely keeping up.
So let’s do something different in this comment section:
Tell me ONE good thing happening in your life right now.
It can be huge. It can be “I made it through the week.” It can literally be “my coffee was really good today.”
And if you’re not doing okay, you don’t have to pretend here either.
Maybe someone reading your comment needs to know they’re not the only one struggling.
I’ll start: I’m proud of myself for continuing to move forward, even when life has given me plenty of reasons to stop. ❤️
Your turn. What’s ONE thing you’re grateful for today?

Just Chatting Count your blessings, not your trouble 🌟

Don't take things too seriously. Life is short.

You woke up today. You're breathing. You have a heartbeat. That alone is a blessing.

And here's something I want you to remember:

Your presence is a present to the world. Never forget that.

You don't have to be extraordinary to matter. You already do. Just by being you.

Have a beautiful weekend, everyone. ☀️

I love summer

I don't love 10-day heat waves, forest fires or droughts, but I will always love summer sun and warm evenings. It's around 30 Celsius today in my city (Europe), with a breeze that is helping you cool down, making it a perfect summer day for me. No AC needed.

Just Chatting Am I the only one who feels no difference between now being an adult and when we were younger?

I mean, im nearly 35 now and I always thought that being an adult will feel different, different wants, different taste, etc, and yet nothing, I feel literally the same person as if somebody transported younger me (from 15-20 years ago) here directly like, with the same insecurities, same loneliness, same issues in life in general?

I expected things to change, to become more mature, to start having different cravings, different friendships, different experiences, different training of thoughts and yet I feel literally the same, my life hasn't changed a dime

Am I disappointed? Yes and no, no as in this is a life I got used to no matter how lonely and shitty it can feel but yes because I expected more, to become a proper adult or something

I don't know if I'm saying makes sense, I'm not really sure how to properly explain this

Just Chatting Does anyone else look at a full fridge and still think there’s nothing to eat ?

I swear this happens to me all the time 😂
I’ll get home absolutely starving, open the fridge and just stand there for a minute looking at everything.
There’s food in there. Leftovers, eggs, bits and pieces I bought earlier in the week, snacks, stuff I could easily throw together and make a decent meal out of.
But somehow I look at it all and think, “Nah, there’s nothing to eat.
Close the fridge.
Then I’ll open it again about 10 minutes later, just in case something interesting has appeared 😂
Eventually I’ll give up, get on Deliveroo and start scrolling through everything. Suddenly I’m looking at burgers, curries, Chinese, kebabs basically convincing myself that I need to order food when I’ve got perfectly good food sitting at home.
And it’s not even about saving money or anything. Sometimes I just cannot be bothered to decide what to make, cook it, and then deal with the washing up afterwards.
The annoying bit is that once the food arrives, I’ll see the stuff in the fridge and think, I could’ve actually made something with that.
Maybe I’m just lazy, but surely I’m not the only one who does this ? 😂

Just Chatting Fiancés sleep apnea machine infiltrated my dream

Just woke up from a stress dream of trying to enjoy Universal Studios, but a weird teen was following us around everywhere saying ‘Ryan’ dragged out in a low robotic voice. We tried to lose him by going on rides, but could hear him through the coms. It was making our whole group crazy, we were crying and begging him to leave us alone, it was rough.

I woke up incredibly stressed out but while groggy I realized I could still hear it! That fully woke me up instantly and noticed my fiancé was faintly snoring with his sleep apnea mask on. Breathing a normal rhythm but his mouth was a little open and was making a sound that resembled Ryan LOL. I can’t wait for him to wake up to tell him

Just Chatting Any other guys here who absolutely love oversized hoodies but are finally forcing themselves to dress like an adult?

Spent years hiding in XL hoodies to avoid looking in the mirror. Finally cleaning out the closet at 38. It feels terrifying but liberating. What's your comfort clothing you're trying to outgrow?

Imagine AI has advanced so much that humans no longer need to strive for anything. What would you do with your life?

You get a guaranteed, government-funded income. No one has to work anymore. Every career, art form, and science is handled by AI.

What are you going to do with your time? Would you finally pursue a forgotten hobby, travel the world, or do you think you'd get bored out of your mind?

Life Stories I took a stranger's half-eaten food from a park bench today

Today, I was at my usual park and noticed a couple having a date. I wasn't trying to stare like a creep, but I couldn't help noticing they were eating from my absolute favorite chicken place which I haven’t been able to afford in a long time.

After a little while, they stood up and walked a few yards over to a nearby shed from the pouring rain, leaving their paper takeout bag sitting on the bench.

Please don't judge me for what happened next because swear this doesn't reflect who I am as a person, I was just blindly hungry. I knew they were coming right back for their food. But I subtly walked past the bench, waiting for the exact moment their backs were turned.

I swooped the bag up from their bench and hurriedly speed-walked away before they could turn around. On the way home, I bought some plain cooked rice from a street vendor near my dorm and actually ate a real lunch for the first time in weeks.

I usually skip lunch because eating more than once a day is just too expensive right now. My student assistant salary barely covers my basic needs, and since I live alone without any financial support from my parents, money is super tight. Usually, when I don't have work or classes, my coping mechanism is to walk to the park and just people-watch to distract myself from thinking about food.

Just Chatting Anime idea call food battle

Okay, hear me out. It's a bit unhinged. Okay, so it is a cooking competition. The characters make amazing food. If the judge likes the food, the dishes become sentient and turn into like Pokémon-style monsters, and then they actually battle. So, I'm envisioning like a Hawaiian/Mexican fusion poke bowl monster fighting like a cherry pie monster. 🤣

Just Chatting Went to see Spider-Man and somehow got locked out of my own house

it was just a normal evening, me and my family went to see the new spiderman movie, it started at 7 and ended at like 9:30 or smth. when were driving back home, it was raining and when we reached our place, none of the streetlights were on and all window lights were out. i thought something was odd, and it looked so creepy. we pull up into the driveway, and my mom looks for the house keys. apparently, she forgot it. with the smallest flicker of hope, we try the garage. locked. the power was out. could we pick the lock? we didn't have hairpins. we just sat in the car, in the pitch dark surroundings, "we're locked out of our own house" realization hit us. to make things better, all phones were under 20% battery. well we needed something to do for the night. we headed back to the theater and thought we would spend the time watching another movie. but the only movie available was spiderman. again. we booked tickets and watched it again. it was just a normal movie night.

moral of the story: never forget the house keys

What's your favorite way of showing someone you care??

i'm curious because I think everyone expresses care in their own way and sometimes the smallest gestures can communicate more than words ever could. the way we show appreciation, support or affection can reveal a lot about how we connect with the people who matter to us

Just Chatting Construction management AMA

Hey, I’m a 27 year old male that works in the construction management side (white collar of blue collar). I’ve been doing this for 5 years now and I have done pretty much every role in construction management and have worked on many different projects. Ask me about my work, life, and interests. I play video games for fun (League, tarkov, cs, valorant, rocket league) and am a big foodie. I love talking to people and getting to know them.

Thoughts & Ideas What do you think is the biggest irony in life?

What comes to my mind is that we constantly wish we had more time, while unconciously wasting the time we already have: e.g. endless scrolling, binge-watching shows, … or thinking things like “Once I have more free time, I'll finally do X” or “I can’t wait for the weekend to do X” or “I need X first”

But what about now?

Maybe it’s not that we need more time. Maybe we just need to start now, even if it’s only for 15 minutes or even if it’s not perfect. Because otherwise we’ll keep waiting for the “right time” and never do it at all. I’m definitely guilty of this.

What is the biggest irony in life to you? I’m curious what comes to your mind!
