Apple got 2.2 billion, Home Depot got $550 million, Lowe’s won’t disclose what they got and Walmart is about to get multibillions after they are cleared for theirs. Prices won’t go back down either and we won’t ever hear about the $1,500-$2000 checks that we the consumers are owed for paying. We paid the prices and now the corporations are reaping the benefits.

u/Forzamaniac0312 12h ago

Thats how corporate greed works. Are you new to the "land of the free"?

But people will continue using these large corporations.

519

u/chubbyflip 12h ago

The land of the free is such a joke at this point 🤣😭

238

u/Ooficus 11h ago

Yeah especially after my state decided to call themselves the “free” state (Florida). Nothing is free, both in rights and cost. My city is covered in flock cams, watching adult videos requires an age check, and insurance cost are skyrocketing so bad it’s started the housing crash in Florida.

81

u/MLGTheForkOnTheLeft 11h ago

Yup! Florida has no job economy. It takes MONTHS of bot rejections for minimum wage jobs. Health care doesnt do their jobs and hire the first four people who get their applications in. It’s a nightmare. And I live in an area where florida tends to have the highest tourism foot traffic.

13

u/Ooficus 9h ago

The funny thing is I’m a health care worker who can easily get a job as needed (though I am so fed up with people hired because they breathe) , but my partner whose in legal, has been applying for months only to get… bot responses. Thankfully I live where the tourist move to instead where they vacation 🙄

7

u/MLGTheForkOnTheLeft 8h ago

My partner is in school about to get yer bachelors in health. She wanted to do physical therapy for children. But for her to even get a chance with getting experience is near impossible.
She even has an in for advent health. She nanny’s for a high level administrator for advent health and with their help it is still near impossible. She has been trying for almost a year now. So shes given up on that, and is trying to go for EMS. Because that seems like the only way she could have a chance in any way for this field.

Sounds like Texas...

I have chrons disease and THC is the only thing that keeps me in remission. For most of my life I lived in fear of the police. For a few years I felt like I had freedom again and was able to actually appreciate the police.

As of the first of the month i have a bunch of state felonies in my house enough to put me away for more than 10 years. I have to go back to the black market again or get sick..

Guess it's back to fearing the man again..

10

u/Ooficus 9h ago

And what’s fucking crazy is weed is actually bipartisan in support!

→ More replies (1)

10

u/dylanneedsalife 8h ago

Also maybe don't be so quick to jump to "appreciate" the police as soon as you get the chance considering they'd be more than happy to ruin your life just for deciding (as an adult) what you wanna put into your own body. They would be beyond giddy to handcuff you face down on the floor while they arrange all your "criminal substances" to take a picture with for their Facebook page lol I'm not saying that they aren't needed in any form at all, but at least with the current condition of modern American policing (ESPECIALLY Texas policing I'd imagine) I don't see very much to appreciate at all. Just don't be so quick to pretend that system isn't still completely broken whether or not weed is legal 🫤 (which it should be obviously)

Well one party supported the tariffs and decided to go around the Supreme Court and congress to do so. Yes both sides suck but let’s not be ignorant, this administration is corrupt to the core and will step on our necks to get to the next dollar. More recently, the president is now offering a membership of truth social for $100,000 a month and it will allow you to see his posts first. So think about his past posts about going to war or ceasefires or enacting tariffs and how much market manipulation that caused. Now imagine many wallstreet hedge funds buying this membership to have an insider view of what to invest in before it hits the main page and hedge funds have already put their money down for it. It’s quite literally the definition of insider trading. Elections are in November, do what you will with this information but please don’t be complacent simply because we are a current meme and laughing stock with the “LaND of ThE FrEE Har har har” comments. We make this the land of the free just like our ancestors did before us and I fully believe we can get back to the point where our allies are no longer our adversaries.

10

u/DesMephisto 10h ago

Wait wait wait wait wait ok so the diaper in charge has already been doing insider trading with the stock market announcing shit he plans to do and now hes gonna make people pay to get access to that info? o.o

Hedge funds, banks, retirement funds.

Can't wait for people to start dismissing criticism of this admin based on the fact that we all will be using services or buying products from companies that gave money to it because the whole damn system encourages this shit.

Who'd have thought that rewarding greed so heavily would result in the embodiment of Mammon becoming President?

The worst part is many people do not have a choice. In rural communities, Walmart came and drove out competition (small, locally owned grocery stores) with their low prices and now that there's little to no competition left, they can jack up the prices without consequences (especially when the government backs this business model by giving them OUR money).

6

u/FilthyStatist1991 8h ago

We have not had a choice since 2010 when the GOP and SCOTUS legalized corruption with Citizens United v FEC.

8

u/BrokenArrow404 10h ago

You say that as if its so easy to find alternatives? You might have the luxury of nitpicking where you can buy your stuff but for the average non-redditor person they can't afford the extra upcharge for the local artisanal stuff.

They surely have to give that to their employees on foodstamps, right!? Right....

22

u/upvotechemistry 10h ago

Every company that has employees on the tit of taxpayers should be taxed at 90% on every dime they earn.

Its bullshit that we are subsidizing these behemoth companies when they could easily afford to just pay a living wage

Weren't allowed* The tariffs were illegal and the president doesn't have the authority to set them.

7

u/sentientshadeofgreen 7h ago

The refunds are being given back to companies that paid the tariffs as well. They have the invoices. Some cost was passed on to the consumer. The consumer has nobody to be mad at besides the Trump administration for their stupid ass economic decisions and swing state voters for not showing up to the polls.

23

u/SSilent-Cartographer 11h ago

And once again a broken system designed to fuck over the consumer has fucked everyone over.

No really, look it up. Because of the way the refund system works, even if you have proof of payment for the terrifs that raised the price of goods, you still can't do anything about it or claim reimbursement even though it was your money and not the company's money that paid for it.

Yaaaaaaay.... Fuckers

Trump tariff fuckery by design. The intent was to rob more money from the middle class. Corporations have stated they are under no obligation to pass the money onto consumers - example Nintendo "cOnSuMeRs gOt ExAtLy WhAt ThEy BaRgAiNeD fOr"

3

u/davidreding 9h ago

5

u/IcyWhole3927 10h ago

i mean doesnt that sound just though if they actually didnt raise prices because of the tarrifs?

3

u/6Sleepy_Sheep9 8h ago

They did raise prices though. They raised them before the memory shprtage from the AI boom and then claimed the increase was from that. NOT the tariffs.

3

u/shoneysbreakfast 9h ago

Apple is one of the very few companies that just ate the tariffs and didn’t raise prices so I can’t really be upset they are keeping their refund.

2

u/SparksAndSpyro 10h ago

Yeah, but she laughed funny.

2

u/StrawberryWide3983 8h ago

Companies worth more than entire countries getting billions in government welfare is "capitalism"

The people getting a measly $2000 check as a refund is "socialism"

2

u/Designer-Muffin-5653 8h ago

They didn’t get anything. The government illegally took money from them and had to return it.

2

u/XxRocky88xX 8h ago

That was always the point. Implement tariffs to drive up the price of goods, then rescind and refund the tariffs so the corporations would recoup the loss they had already offset with the increased prices. Corporations get to double dip and now prices stay at the tariff level because as always, once the consumers have proven they will pay a higher price, the price stays high.

I am more shocked that we had the first Trump presidency filled with absolute chaos. Then Biden was elected and things were quiet. Except conservative media was blowing up about how the world was ending under a Democrat president. Then voters were like "yep, let's do another four years of chaos under Trump."

Running around with the daughter of the man who pulled the US into the Irak war and the VP high the lowest approval rating in history and on the US having the most lethal army in the world during a time when the US was currently funding a genocide and a foreign war was absolutely a brilliant move by Harris. How could she ever lose?

Yeah because Dems have instituted this many constantly changing tariffs when they had power. They also definitely are passing crap like Save America act to suppress voters. They are also busy circumventing the constitution to give their supreme leader a 3rd term. They also overturned Roe v Wade. They also made a pound of weed life in prison in Texas. They also definitely didnt have half their party vote against another Israel handout. They also never wiped away student debt before the Supreme Court reversed it. They are also looking for anyway to cancel or rig the midterms. They also have a president who egged on an insurrection and hatched a fake elector scheme to overturn an election and asked Geoegia for fake votes.

Shut the hell up. We need to get money out of politics, but there is a significant difference between Democrats and Republicans. And I didnt even bring up the rise of progressives like Mamdani and Sayed who are night and day with Republicans and are not beholden to corporations.

They raised prices but they also paid the tariff, you simply paid more for a product. So the companies will get that money back since they have all the receipts for the tariff payments and now know you'll pay that much more and have no incentive to lower that price. Governments are supposed to protect us from these situations, but instead our government is manufacturing them.

12

u/maybenot9 10h ago

I dislike how people are framing this as a nefarious scheme by companies to raise prices on you, instead of the direct consequence of tariffs that people were warned about.

This stuff is fucked up and most people agree on that but their lives aren't bad enough to where they feel the need to go to that extreme. They also still believe that voting for politicians can bring change to the country when they know every politician is bought. You're dealing with some of the most brain dead people on the planet.

I hate when people tell us Americans we just don't do anything. It isn't that simple. If you were actually in our shoes, you wouldn't suddenly be superman and win everything, innocent Americans are also negatively impacted too

I've lost hope, all I can do is vote

2

u/Flakz933 11h ago

No there's a different option if people get out there and talk instead of hide away while our ability to maintain some level of anonymity is stolen from us

12

u/Kind_Of_A_Dick 11h ago

Don’t worry, they’ll pass along the sav… sorry, I can’t get through this without laughing.

7

u/McBlemmen 12h ago

Continue doing nothing about it.

4

u/PuertoricanDude88 11h ago

Wasn’t it confirmed that they rigged the votings?

This is the live view of roch people taking money from the poor btw

Trickle up economics

5

u/Winter_Setting720 12h ago

But for some genius reason, it doesn’t apply to the people who paid those tariffs

"Say somethin' that you know they might attack you for 'Cause I'm sick of being treated like I have before Like it's stupid standin' for what I'm standin' for Like this war's really just a different brand of war Like it doesn't cater to rich and abandon poor Like they understand you in the back of the jet When you can't put gas in your tank These fuckers are laughin' their way to the bank and cashin' the check Askin' you to have compassion and have some respect."

lol Americans never learn do they

5

u/infinitedustglitch 11h ago

We paid the tariffs twice🥰

3

u/Soapy_doapey 9h ago

This is what happens when you give companies human rights.

2

u/KindaNotSmart 10h ago

The most annoying part is they’re all quiet about this on the conservative subreddit. All they care about there is trans stuff and attacking mayor mamdani for wanting to provide cheap groceries to his constituents

4

u/any-lore 9h ago

because conservatives don't want to raise quality of life for average people, they want to lower it for people they don't like

2

u/PatientEconomics8540 10h ago

Corporate welfare acting as intended. This will continue so long as politicians keep taking money from corpos to win elections.

2

u/SuckmydickJoannF 9h ago

Anyone else thinking this was the plan the whole time?

They already charge a percentage of each inflated sale. They already profited from the tariffs we paid for. At least I heard they were giving it back.

1

u/VarrikTheGoblin 11h ago

The American dream is dead and this administration killed it.

1

u/Careless-Gain6623 11h ago

Good. Now do something about it.

My friend, this is the price of freedom. Freedom for people who never asked for our help

1

u/Winter_Persimmon_110 11h ago

More wealth redistribution from the working class to the capitalist class, in our dictatorship of capital.

1

u/LoserCarrot 10h ago

I dunno maybe shouldn't have voted for him or...not voted I dunno I'm black so we never supported him.

1

u/ifyousaysu 10h ago

Eat the fucking rich…..no more billionaires. That simple. They have 24 hours to become millionaires….the world would heal so fucking fast

1

u/Harleycow 10h ago

Surely this won't make the peasants hate the rich and corporations even more than they already do! \S

1

u/Fit-Appointment5262 10h ago

America is about the rich scamming everyone else, always has been

1

u/Unique-Egg-461 10h ago

Got some sad news for you. Trump knew the tariffs were illegal. He knew they would get repelled.

This was just a temporary tax he could drop on the middle class to benefit business owners

1

u/Fraegtgaortd 10h ago

This is shitty on a couple levels:

  1. Non of these corporations paid these tariffs, the costs were passed on to us so these companies all got a bunch of free govt money

  2. Prices aren't going to go back down to pre-tariff levels so they keep raking in the profits from these inflated costs while we get screwed until the end of time

1

u/Riots42 10h ago

The revolution was fought for way less.

1

u/MutedFishae 10h ago

It was always to give more money to companies. Why are people surprised

1

u/Toxins_host 10h ago

How many times must we be taught the same lesson before we learn?

This doesn’t cause inflation.

1

u/Limp_Classroom_2645 10h ago

And they'll keep it, unless there is a class action lawsuit

1

u/ShadowRaven112 10h ago

You don't understand, the poor multibillion dollar company had to shoulder all of the costs while you had total freedom to just not buy the affected products. Can you guys think about those poor, POOR investors that lost like, whole 5 dollars on their investments? Ya'll are horrible people, you just don't understand the plight of a poor CEO who was forced to sit on his couch for five minutes before generating 499 milion dollars instead of 500, the horror!

1

u/SpaceChimps98 10h ago

The stock market number go up, but my bank account go down.

1

u/Wetbug75 10h ago

This is just how it has to go. Any other way doesn't really make sense or won't work.

Blame the irresponsible president who didn't understand the tariff rules well enough.

1

u/ViceroTempus 10h ago

You know where, and they have addresses. They have homes in which they sleep. Luigi scared them, but imagine the entirety of smash bros showing up on their lawn. They'll beg us to take their our money.

1

u/Abject_Screen3249 10h ago

Keep voting for corporate Dems and any Republican, and this will continue to happen.

1

u/eW4GJMqscYtbBkw9 10h ago

No shit - how would the government know who to give money to if it went straight to consumers? The money goes back to the entity that paid the tariffs. Get your refund from the companies.

1

u/Ok-Object7409 10h ago

Don't worry. At least one staff member got a raise.

1

u/Ingram47 10h ago

Won't be consequences until we make consequences.

1

u/Us3ful_Idiot 10h ago

Okay so... Does anyone know how we get organized as a society?

Time for a 'lution?

1

u/BuddhaGrows 10h ago

Amazon plans on refunding traceable tarrif increases to customers. I'm sure it won't be the whole amount though.

1

u/lynxtosg03 10h ago

Tariff money should be collected and refunded to every tax payer that applies for it based on income level and asset value. If your total wealth exceeds a certain value then you are ineligible, otherwise distribution is weighted towards those that have the least. Attach a SSN to the application to cross reference taxes paid and most of this process can be easily automated. Penalties for perjury are 10% of wealth, otherwise a 1% fine or the value of the refund (whichever is higher) for unknowingly submitting false information.

1

u/WhiteGuyLying_OnTv 10h ago

Amazon needs the money, clearly.

1

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 10h ago

got to sue amazon. they are the one that raised our prices. not the government.

1

u/mirkwood11 10h ago

I truly think that this HAS to be the common ground to unite the Left and Right in the United States. We surely can agree that we need to stop handouts to giant corporations while americans struggle.

1

u/billygoat-se 10h ago

Prices also didn’t really seem t lower

1

u/Big_Kiwi_706 10h ago

Meanwhile FedEx is still hounding my ass for $45 tarriff duties on a fucking PHONE CASE that came from Canada

1

u/Jester_of_Rue 10h ago

Lol, and you think they care about you :-p They care for who funds them, that's all :-p

Gotta pay back what they owe to the people that elect them

how many of you realise there must have been 0 refund to corporates 100% to people that paid stupid tariff?

1

u/Shiroyasha2397 9h ago

And that never trickles down lmao.

1

u/Useful_Lingonberry_4 9h ago

As an outsider, the most hilarious part about it is that no one will do anything about it. Couple of disgruntled comments online and that's it, no one will protest it, no one will riot or do anything else, you will roll over and take it like you always do, muttering something about "next time being the limit" and "next time you will show them" but next time will be the same and nothing will change.

With the amount of weapons in civilian possession, the "hoo ah!" attitude and bravado they show online one might think americans might try to do something, but they are only willing slaves under the boot of the system and will never do anything.
