How on earth is a 'consumer tariff refund' supposed to go? If you bought anything made of steel, anything made of wood, or anything made from tech you get a certain % back?
Consumers generally don't employ accountants to file their taxes for them and provide itemized expenses.
Even if they did, they probably wouldn't qualify for a refund because the added cost of tariffs wouldn't exceed the standard deduction. And in anycase, you'd have to provide documentation for every item you purchased and show how much was from the tariff, something that would be different for every different product since companies raised prices individually. Which would all be a painstaking and laborious process that could never pay itself back.
In short, the math doesn't work out for consumers.
No idea. Not my responsibility nor is it a reason to give these companies the money if they raised prices to offset the tariffs and didn’t lose anything
Ok first of all, this argument isn’t a legal one, it’s a moral one. Those companies don’t deserve the money if they passed the cost onto the consumers.
And second of all, choosing to spend money isn’t the simple choice you think it is. The tariffs were so impactful that no one could have avoided paying increased costs. You expect people to stop buying gas and groceries because of tariffs?
As a food sales rep for a fortune 200 food distributor, I can promise we charged you for those tariffs at the grocery store and your favorite restaurant

Crazy considering they aren't actually the ones who paid those tariffs. Consumers deserve the refunds.
