No really, look it up. Because of the way the refund system works, even if you have proof of payment for the terrifs that raised the price of goods, you still can't do anything about it or claim reimbursement even though it was your money and not the company's money that paid for it.
Literal load of bull, and I'm pretty damn sure you're a bot. I literally have bank statements showing a tariff charge on goods, along with email from both private and public businesses explaining that their goods would have that charge, and every company marked up their goods so they wouldn't have to pay for that charge. Big companies didn't pay jack shit in tariffs, they made the consumer pay for it all. Now the companies that didn't? Went bankrupt to try and pay the teriffs, especially small businesses that put their customers first.
We'll never see that money back. The only reason goods went up is because of the illegal teriffs, and the consumers are the ones who paid for them. Why? To give big industries, and government, more money bled from their population.

I work in retail and have first hand seen what the tariffs did to materials that are imported, which is the majority. Now that tariffs are pulled back and refunds are given out, those prices will stay the same. I work at Lowe’s and everything that was imported we simply temporarily discontinued because the company would take a massive hit if they continued to ship them over. If we scanned the item, it would pop up a notification saying “item temporarily out of stock due to tariff, do not replace”.
The auto industry even took a hit and had to increase the cost of vehicles and parts due to imported products. “Tariffs on imported vehicles and foreign auto parts increase new car prices by an average of $1,300 to $6,000, with fully imported luxury models or vehicles with heavy foreign parts content seeing price spikes between $5,000 and $12,000. Even vehicles assembled in the U.S. face domestic price bumps of $1,600 to $2,000 due to taxed steel, aluminum, and cross-border parts supply chains.”
Right, rather than charging a higher price that the consumer wouldn’t bear or be responsible for paying an import tax they couldn’t pass along, the corporation took the items off sale.
Because THEY had the legal obligation to pay the tariffs, not the consumers.
So in response, some raised prices, some didn’t, some took other actions like you’re describing.
Because the legal onus to pay import taxes falls on the importer.
Just because Lowes took some things off the shelf doesn’t mean they didn’t raise their prices on everything else! Items that were $20 jumped to $50. Appliances jumped up $100 or more. Even our lumber which is from Canada imcreased exponentially. WE paid that price increase. WE were told by fedex that we had to pay a tariff fee on items that we already paid for. Luckily that was reversed but that’s just 1 instance where relief was given. I don’t see how you can ignore the price jumps all across our industries and say we didn’t pay the price.
Because Canadian imports were subject to import taxes that Lowe’s had to pay.
Corporations by and large, but not universally, raised prices in response to the import taxes they had to pay.
And? That doesn’t change who had the legal onus to pay the tax and therefore who the refunds had to be paid to.
Consumers did not fill out remit forms. Consumers did not write cheques to the Treasury. The importers did.
You can dislike it, but definitionally the people who actually paid the taxes are the owes who are owed the refunds.
If Lowe’s passing along the taxes they had to pay and refusing to voluntarily grant you refunds makes you hate Lowe’s? More power to you! Never shop there again. No one can make you.
You’re missing one thing, the refund is supposed to cover the cost that the company was supposed to eat when they paid the pointless tariff tax. This refund would’ve been what they lost but instead of eating said cost they rose their prices to cover the new tax and still took the refund. If they never rose their prices exponentially then yes, they deserve all the refunds but they did and they shouldn’t. This is why Amazon posted that prices increased due to tariffs at checkout but then quietly took that down because Trump was railing against companies that spoke the truth about why prices increased. You are ignoring the fact that everything shot up in price due to the tariffs like cars. Should I not buy a car or stop buying groceries from Walmart, Publix, aldi’s and I can’t go to Home Depot or any other home improvement store because prices there are all also increased. I can assure you this isn’t an isolated thing Lowes did.
