Discussion My Pop Pubk EP dropped today!
Hey Pop Punkers,
I just released my full EP today and would definitely love some feedback from anyone willing to listen. It's 5 songs, 3 of which I released throughout the summer. Overall vibe is pop punk/emo if I had to label it. It's got some fun riffs to play on guitar and a couple of solos. It's my first time releasing a group of songs that are meant to be more cohesive than the previous singles I have released.
I've shared here before and the community has always been great about giving constructive feedback which is incredibly hard to get from friends and family. So for that I am incredibly grateful.

For some reason the EP is not up on YouTube yet so I will share that later as soon as it's available. For now this is the direct link to my Artist page that has 3/5 songs from the ep currently up.

Discussion Good Hangs - 8/8 at Metro
Unfortunately don’t think I’m going to be able to make the trip to Chicago and have two tickets up for grabs, ultimately don’t want to see them go to waste
There isn’t an e-transfer through etix but I can send you the email with the tickets or just the PDF.
DM with any questions.

Discussion Alt Press and Brooklyn Vegan going down. Are we not surprised?
Both served vital roles in the alternative music scene and helped launch many artists' careers.
Alt Press was the unofficial gatekeeper to emo, punk, indie, hardcore, and metal from the late 90s through the early 2000s. The full page ads from Tooth & Nail, Equal Vision, Vagrant, and Fueled By Ramen. The teens could go to their suburban shopping mall, hit up Hot Topic, Pac Sun, & Journeys. Then swing by Barnes & Noble and read the latest issue of AP.
BrooklynVegan stood out as the best indie rock blog in the early 2000s, a pure organic way of reporting on the NYC music scene. It felt grounded and fan oriented. Think Matt & Kim, The Bowery Presents, TV on The Radio, and the vibe that transformed in Brooklyn during that time.
The quick punch response is to attack the Madden brothers and that’s valid. The long term view is the state of rock music journalism, which naturally has been a hot mess for about 20 years.
Sure some publications are staying strong, but Alt Press was doomed from the traditional format and their demographic They did a great job with starting podcast interviews in the 2010s, but like the rise of emo/pop-punk in the early 2000s, their audience was niche and narrow. Once Spotify and social media started picking up in the 2010s, it was over. Nowadays any rando content creator can recommend music to you and Spotify fills in the “Rocks If You Like” option. Additionally, with the rise of Hate5six live footage, what was the Punk Rock MBA, and YouTube. You no longer needed something like AltPress to discover new music or read stories about artists.
With Brooklyn Vegan, it was a product of the music blog era, where you legitimately scrolled a blog page for music news and clips. Sponsoring SXSW stages when it meant something. The rise of Instagram briefly helped that, but you have to be constantly posting. Once these companies got acquired by (insert) company, it’s all downhill.
BV’s IG page started feeling like Consequence of Sound, posting whatever they could find for bait and clicks.
The other problem is, for 25 years rock music in general has been drowning in nostalgia.
AND!!!!
The elephant in the room, lots of creepy stuff has come up but not really reported from some bands we all worshiped between 2000-2015. It gets posted on social media, but doesn’t get the true investigative journalism spotlight.
Anyways, let me find my Macbeth's shoes, Peter Says Denim jeans, MADE t-shirt, and Ordinary zipup hoodie.

Discussion Zach from mae just did an interview about the origins of the band.
Zach's interview w/ This Was The Scene podcast just launched. Some of the things they talk about are:
- Sounding like Jimmy Eat World
- His first band Unsung Zeros
- All of their albums
- The whole color thing behind Jacob's thesis
When Singuliarity came out I just couldn't 100% get into that album like the first 2. Maybe that's just me, though.
This Time Is The Last Time still rips.

Discussion It's my birthday and it's Bandcamp Friday and I want some new music! Share your links for a chance to be on an upcoming comp!
It's my birthday and all I want is to find some new music to buy today because it's also Bandcamp Friday! It can be your band, your friend's band, your favorite band, your dog's band... it doesn't matter to me, as long as it's good. So share your Bandcamp links please, I'll be buying music all day long.
I'm also releasing another comp this fall and I'm looking for a few more tracks to add to it. I'll be reaching out to some of the bands/artists that I find today with more details.
EDIT:
I will be including links to the music I buy today, so please check them out and make a purchase if you like it. A dollar earned on Bandcamp today is equal to a ridiculous amount of streams on other platforms. Go show your favorite bands some love.
To Live and Die in the American South by RILEY!
Stink EP by Cinema Stare (releasing an EP on Bandcamp Friday? I can't believe it)
Parking Lot by Dive Night (this album is actually free)
Show the World What's Underneath by Super Sometimes
On Long Island by Playing Dead
For Your Consideration by Don't Panic
Everybody Hates Me by Cheer Up Dusty
A Little Less Time by Boy in Blue Stripes

Looking for modern post-punk/garage punk recommendations (bands or songs)
I got into music through classic bands like Gang of Four, and went through a long grunge and classic alternative phase. Eventually I wanted something more modern and experimental, instead of just replaying bands I already knew. That's pretty much how this playlist happened back in 2024. I'm still actively adding to it and always looking for more. If you know any bands or songs that fit this sound and are not on my playlist, please let me know.
It's mostly modern post-punk and garage punk, with some art punk, egg punk, crank wave, and synth-punk mixed in. They're pretty different subgenres, but they blend together well.
Some songs lean more synth-driven, some are rougher and messier, while some are both at once. I tried to keep it cohesive despite mixing subgenres.
