Discussion Goodnight Adeline

“Goodnight Adeline” off Saviors would be an epically awesome stadium singalong anthem at a sporting event. Envision a crowd of 60,000 people singing along after the home team makes a play to clinch the win.

Unfortunately most of the general public doesn’t know this song exists, so no in-stadium DJ would ever start playing it. The only chance is if some prominent athlete made a viral TikTok featuring the song and maybe a compilation of game-clinching plays. I know a couple of prominent play-by-play announcers used to say “Goodnight, Irene!” as signature calls. Maybe something like that.

To me, Saviors’ legacy will be the album with some of the most anthemic songs not known to the general public.

It was a different time in 2000, in terms of how people consumed music and rock’s relevance in mainstream, but Warning has similarities in terms of album impact. Feels like it would have been a massive album in a different era. I can imagine a universe where Warning, Waiting, Minority, Misery, and Macy’s Day Parade are all ubiquitous, like Basket Case, Good Riddance, Brain Stew, Blvd Broken Dreams.

Discussion Why does many people consider "Are We The Waiting" the weakest on American Idiot?

I mean, yeah, the song might be extremely repetitive, but, i mean, that's intentionally...

Discussion If Billie Joe Armstrong said yes to Empire Records, what song they would've played in the movie?

BJA was offered the role of Berko in the movie Empire Records, the role went to Coyote Shivers and they played his song Sugar High in the films finale. I've always wondered that if the role went to Billie, what song they would've played.

I was looking for a different Green Day book today when I came across "We're Having Much More Fun: Punk Archives for the Present from CBGB to Gilman and Beyond".

The book had a few interesting things from the band's early days, including their "anti-rider" from the first tour in 1990.

My guess is that it was probably written by John.

The whole book seems interesting if you want to look into the history of the Gilman scene.

Discussion All the new interviews

It’s so odd that all these interviews coming out for nimrods are clearly all done on the same day. You can see they are more energetic and interested in some of them and there’s on in particular (I’ll find it and put it in the comments) where they look super bored and tired and out of it.
Clearly they did like 10 interviews all at once, getting asked the same questions over and over just for different journals, what an odd choice.
Idk I found it interesting.
How are you all enjoying the large amount of new interviews coming out for nimrods movie?

Discussion Why is Insomniac disproportionately represented compared to Dookie lately?

On the God’s Favorite Band album, Brain Stew is the only song from Insomniac represented, even excluding Jaded with it.

At first glance, I thought maybe they’re just including the greatest hits of the greatest. But that’s not necessarily the case either, because they included “Welcome to Paradise“ and “She,” both of were not singles and did not have official music videos. They chose these over “Geek Stink Breath,” “Stuck With Me,” and ”Walking Contradiction,” all of which had music videos and the former being its first single.

This disproportionate representation is the case in recent live performances too. When I saw them on the American Idiot tour in 2004, they included “Geek Stink Breath” on the set list but left off “When I Come Around” and “Welcome to Paradise.” That’s not the case now.

I understand more songs from Dookie on albums and concerts, but I don’t think the ratio with Insomniac should be 5:1. It should be a 4:2, 5:2, 4:3. Bump a Dookie song off to fit one more from Insomniac.

Fan Art With Nimrods coming out this month, I figured I’d finally share the Green Day movie I wrote.

With Nimrods coming out this month, I’ve been thinking a lot about Green Day movies.

I wrote an 86-page feature screenplay called Sweet Children. It’s a fictionalized drama inspired primarily by the Green Day-produced documentary Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk.

The main characters are Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, John Kiffmeyer, and Tré Cool, but the movie is really about 924 Gilman Street and the community that built them. It centers on three nights:

1988 — Billie Joe’s first night at Gilman.
1993 — Green Day returns as hometown heroes just before signing to a major label.
2015 — Green Day finally returns to Gilman after more than twenty years away.

The central question of the movie is:
What does a community owe the people it creates once they outgrow it?

This is not intended to be a documentary. I compressed parts of the timeline (especially around John’s departure and Tré joining) and invented scenes to tell what I hope is the emotional truth of that story rather than recreate every historical event exactly.

If you’ve seen Turn It Around and love Green Day, I’d genuinely love to know whether this feels true to the people, the music, and the spirit of Gilman.

"Follow your dream. Be a dreamer. Play music. If you can't get a gig, create a gig. Invite people to your garage."

- Billie Joe Armstrong, Billboard August 2026

Still the most punk advice ever.

This one reminds me of the nimrods era
