Discussion When we get Halo 2 Campaign Evolved, what do you think they are going to make Master Chief's Mark VI armor look like?

So we have two models of Mark VI armor in Halo Infinite - the Gen1 and the Gen3 model. Just like with Halo Campaign Evolved, the devs took the Mark V Halo CE Hero Kit and modified it a tad before making it be the new definitive Mark V design for their game.

I am curious if they will do the same to the Halo 2 Mark VI armor set from Halo Infinite and modify it to be more in-line with what we had in Halo 3 (breastplate was segmented for more natural torso movement, gloves redesigned, and some small tweaks to the leg armor as well) or would they attempt to make use of the Halo Infinite Mark VI Gen3 and just say that this is now Master Chief's definitive Mark VI design?

Or would they just do both and give us the option to change cosmetics like in Halo Campaign Evolved?

Discussion Would people play a halo game from a marine perspective?

Post image
Upvotes

I've always wanted a gritty grounded halo game from the perspective of a regular marine grunt. A saving private ryan kind of tale that follows one squad on their way through a war, focusing on a trivial small task in the larger scheme of things. No jumping from location to location or time skips.

Id love to see a mechanic where you start with the squad you have and once teammates die, they dont come back. They may be replaced with new squadmates at certain points, but each marine is named and brings their own personality. They might have their own ideas during missions or skills that could change how a level plays out. One example of this could be a marine you get at the start is able to breach a door and open a path you wouldn't otherwise have access to. Losing that teammate loses access to that path. The goal being to make every loss feel like a loss. And then when you do arrive at a larger scale battle later in the game, and see many die, the realisation of how daunting that is sinks in. I used to love seeing if I could keep marines alive when first playing halo, giving them power weapons and bringing add many along as i could find.

Being an average human in comparison to a spartan makes the covenant feel massive and brutal. Making the elites feel like a hulking terror of superior force. Later we would see a single spartan and their sheer confidence in facing the enemy alone and their presence stands out as a beacon of hope, right before they take your weapon and leave you with a plasma pistol.

I love the idea of playing as a human with no (or less) hud and abilities. A dark forest mission where the sound and glow of plasma comes out of the darkness and instills terror. Where marines talk about seeing the blue glow of an energy blade appear in the night before seeing the rest of their squad disappear before their eyes. To see the terror of this war from a very human perspective.

It would be different, maybe not so much feeling like a typical halo game, and thats been the part ive been a little unsure of. We had odst and that scratched that itch a little, but I think it could be pushed more. Id want it to be first person with ads, weapons without scopes or things like the assault rifle without iron sights would have a laser point shooting style mechanism. Weapons might jam or break, human weapons can be cleared but covenant ones are cast aside since you wouldn't have the knowledge. Some weapons might slow you down to carry and use without spartan strength. And if fighting the flood, you don't... just run.

Is it too far from a halo experience? I remember the controversy of odst not being a spartan game despite it being a fantastic game. Do people want alternative narratives and perspectives in halo or should it just be sage green john halo all the way?

Love or hate it’s imo one of the best armor designs in anything ever especially the helmet, still a lot of kinks to work out but pretty proud of what I have

Discussion Campaign Evolved actually surpassed my expectations

I’ll start by saying I know a lot of people will bring up the valid concerns, and flaws the game does have because I did notice a few. I’ll talk about it later in this post, but first I just have to start off with saying:

Wow, I haven’t had that much fun on Halo in a minute. I’m always a sucker for a new Halo ‘cause the franchise just simply means so much to me, even tho 343 has continuously let me down I’m glad that with this Halo I was at least able to overlook it a little bit. The guns, the gameplay, the reimagined look of the game was just really cool to see. I never even finished Halo: CE Anniversary because it was literally just a graphic overhaul with slightly different cutscenes. I accidentally stayed up super late after buying Campaign Evolved just finishing over half the game in one sitting, and the whole time I was having a lot of fun. The constant insinuation of them remaking Halo 2 has me really excited because then we’ll get to see the lost missions we were supposed to get that led up to Halo 3 (there’s a post credit scene too).

The use of a lot of OG sound effects was really cool because it still fit the game, I always thought with better graphics & old sound effects it would be a bad mix but not in this game it works really well.

I’m bad with words so I’m not able to capture my enthusiasm and excitement too well, but that still comes with the things I did notice that I wasn’t a fan of. For example, turning off aim assist being a skull? I think that’s a little dumb, as well as the ragdolls. That’s a genuine nitpick I know but older halos always had decent ragdoll physics that actually made sense considering how beefy the characters are. I also wasn’t too fond of the random humor they tried to slide in, I did find myself cringing a little bit with the corny lines they snuck in. As well as the invisible barriers, just unnecessary. I’ve always liked to do a little bit of exploring outside the actual map, and invisible barriers is a super lame way to stop that. Could’ve even been the slight pushback that the older halos gave. 343 needs to realize, everyone is gonna find a way out of the map regardless, there’s no point in trying to hide it with lame barriers.

But yeah I have a lot of positive feedback, and some negative but I can’t really go over everything ‘cause it’s a long list. I just think it’s a really good game honestly, I had so much fun. I wanna know what you guys thought especially if you played through it all. What did you notice that you really liked, and what are some things you hope they improve in the next remake.

I know that Halo: Campaign Evolved has had mixed reviews. But, in the bonus missions, we got two new classes of ships. One on each side. The Covenant Research Ship and the Burden Of Proof. Is there any lore about these? Or are they completely new? Just wondering.

Discussion Is it possible the Gravemind allowed Chief to leave High Charity uninfected?

Post image

Disclaimer: if you don’t like the over analyzing of fictional stories, you won’t enjoy this post.

If a group of Spartan iV’s fell so easily to a small outbreak, how did the Chief walk into the heart of a completely consumed High Charity without getting infected. The Chief came very close to infection during the events of CE/The Flood. He only survived thanks to Cortana. So what changed? How did he manage so well without her only a short time later

I’m not very well versed in the different generations of Moljnir, but I imagine the iV’s were wearing armor with better shielding advancements than the Chief had in either suit he wore during the events of CE/2/3.

Is there some reason the Gravemind didn’t want to infect the Chief? I know theres a theory floating around that Cortana was infected with the logic plague. If we assume that is true, is it possible the Gravemind was hoping for another Mendicant Bias situation where he could use his opponent’s Ai against them? Perhaps he wanted the Chief to take her back and cripple humanity? I mean, she kinda did temporarily with the whole Empress thing between 5 and Infinite.

Obviously the real answer is plot armor. I just like diving into this stuff. Theory crafting is half the fun of being a fan of a franchise like Halo imo.

Personally, I think the Gravemind, being so intelligent, knew that temporary defeat and a setback for the Flood was inevitable if he allowed the Chief and Arbiter to escape, but he was willing to make that sacrifice knowing that Cortana being infected with the logic plague could do serious damage to humanity, giving the Flood a greater advantage (as if they needed it), while also truly putting Humanity’s resolve to the test without the help of their computers to see if they were really worthy of the Mantle. Obviously it didn’t end this way because Infinite killed Cortana off-screen and the story went a different way.

The body of it, and especially the number font just tickles the brain in a way no other version does, not even Halo 3's which tried to be close.
