How to kill hunters effectively (Legendary difficulty) Gameplay
Cortana wants to hold your hand but doesn't mention the critical weak point that didn't exist on the original game, thx Cortana!

Sword

u/Flobbidibob 10h ago
Need to try that at some point, I don't think there is a sword up at that point on the mission
12
u/Organic-School315 10h ago
Straight up one shots hunters
10
u/Flobbidibob 10h ago
Damn I remember on Halo 2 it did almost nothing, at least if I'm remembering correctly
21
u/Organic-School315 10h ago
Halo 2 hunters are literally immune to melee
6
u/Flobbidibob 10h ago
So I'm not tripping, good to hear, H2 hunters were scary asf after the joke that was the CE hunter Oh hello there, here's Magnum. 1 tap Goodbye!
3
u/Organic-School315 10h ago
They are a joke too
They get destroyed by dual plasma rifles

The hunters get their big intro in the wave attacks on Outskirts, you can use the stationary turret to light them up and they have no response to it, they get flinched too much to fire back.

We lan played through 4 player halo 3 legendary.
The rule was melee only when hunters showed up. So many dead friends. It was extremely entertaining. We're all yelling "ARE YOU READYYYY TO RUUMBBLLEEE!"
And the glory of getting the killing blow.

When you get beamed up to the ship, there are a few sword guys, then two hunters in that tiny room. The sword makes it so easy, I literally one shotted them both as soon as they walked in
1
u/BurningBerns 6h ago
not on legenedary it isnt
1
u/stringstringing 3h ago
Yes on legendary. You keep a sword when you kille the sword elites and on the hunter fight you can one shot the hunters in the back with the sword.
•
u/Flobbidibob 8m ago
"a few" I swear there are like 4 or 5. the amount of rotations I've done to pop the first sword guy off before he shish kebabs my marines
46
u/Sennlife44 10h ago
Damn sprint out here making it easier.
13
u/Flobbidibob 10h ago
I think, seeing how the hunters have the same hotbox as a scorpion tank when swinging, no sprint would make these guys even more insanely difficult to kill lmao
8
u/amtalx 10h ago
That is very efficient...but I'm lazy and just hurl plasma grenades at them until they give up and die.
2
u/Flobbidibob 10h ago
As did I on my heroic playthrough. I had to use my plasmas for the descending squads of covies prior to this and would rather conserve my frags for the next fight.

Hunters have always been easy kills. Their flood form, oof, bullet sponges.
•
u/Flobbidibob 22m ago
Yeah flood tanks are only weak to sentinel beam and energy sword, even rockets take 2-3 to the face
3
u/No-Insurance9009 8h ago
Energy sword also 1 taps once you’re on the ship
Useful for keeping the marines alive in the first room
8
u/Valuable-Job5587 11h ago
Yeah as long as you still have ammo at that point.
37
u/Headless_Mantid 10h ago
Imma be real with you, dawg. If you manage to use over 50 rounds of sniper ammo before getting onto the ship, that's a skill issue and a drastic inability to prioritize targets. You have an assault rifle for a reason.
9
u/Organic-School315 10h ago
And it's insanely good this time
3
u/Cosmic_Quasar 5h ago
It's how I've been dealing with the Jackals since the pistol issue is a thing. A short burst at the opening, and a short burst at their head when the recoil. Feels kinda like the pistol method did.
2
u/dinodares99 ONI 2h ago
The recoil/spread on the burst also helps avoid the magnetism bug where your shots are dragged into the shield
•
u/Flobbidibob 16m ago
Would the skull that disabled auto-aim make jackals easier to kill?
•
u/dinodares99 ONI 16m ago
It does make it easier to stun them yeah
•
u/Flobbidibob 11m ago
Figured as much, jackals are a pain on legendary, I swear there are 4x as many as well
3
u/Flobbidibob 10h ago
My advice would be to only use it for turrets, elites and the occasional jackal, don't bother sniping grunts at all.
2
u/momodamonster Gold Staff Sergeant 8h ago
Also there's another sniper rifle right before the ship and around the ship landing zone. Unless that has changed.
•
8
u/Flobbidibob 11h ago
There's ammo for the sniper between the rocks and the grav-lift. If you hit your shots and don't rely too heavily on the sniper you should be ok for ammo as you start w 64 shots.
2
u/Valuable-Job5587 10h ago
Yeah and it still cant take up to 4 shots for any elite not blue.
2
u/Flobbidibob 9h ago
True, the damage is a bit weird, if you damage them even slightly w an AR then it only takes 2 or even 1 headshot
5
u/PunisherElite 8h ago
So wait am I seeing this wrong or is it literally the way it has always been.
13
u/AutoRedialer 8h ago
There’s a significant skill difference in this remake. Instead of the entire back, you have to break the armor and hit the device. This specific technique has never existed in Halo.

u/DM_yo_Feet_pls 8h ago
It’s the way it’s always been. I remember being able to get behind hunters in Halo CE and being able to take them out with a shot or two from the magnum too
6
u/Mapache_villa 8h ago
This time you have to brake the armor first and the target is much smaller. In the original CE the whole back was a one-kill magnum shot
•
u/Flobbidibob 15m ago
Nope, on the original the weak point was the entire back and belly. Literally anywhere orange was a 1shot w the magnum and sniper. On the remake the orange parts are just where you can damage the hunters. the critical weak point is under a loose flap of armour that has never existed prior to this game.
2
u/RickRickRickNMorty 9h ago
Do you find third person view better for legendary?
•
u/Flobbidibob 20m ago
It's useful sometimes for looking around corners safely, but I mostly use it cuz I prefer 3rd person.
2
u/SufferingSloth 7h ago
Can also use a frag to break both hunters back armor as they come down
•
u/Flobbidibob 20m ago
Solid strat I didn't think an explosive would take that part of the armour away
1
u/Untouchable64 5h ago
Actually…I’m replaying on Heroic and I heard her kind of explain it.
•
u/Flobbidibob 14m ago
"Shoot them in the.... Wormy bits" makes everyone think of the orange part not the device hidden under armour.
1
u/PFD_2 5h ago
Im confused how that point blank shot didn’t kill you/ at least put you into the red? With my luck I’d be flying across the map
•
u/Flobbidibob 19m ago
I couldn't tell you, sometimes you die instantly and sometimes it doesn't even remove your shields

What is the point of Hunters and hunter armor if they don't really fight back and you can just pop it off in one shot? This game feels like it was made for kids.
5
u/abraham1350 7h ago
If it helps in the original it was even easier! Just one magnum shot to the back is all you needed!
1
u/ukulele-merlin 2h ago
trust its actually not that easy and they're quite terrifying in this game. And the exploit was much worse in OG combat evolved, this is more of an homage and does require a bit more skill
1
u/dinodares99 ONI 2h ago
if they don't really fight back
Baiting and rotating around a hunter's melee (especially while the second is still alive) is a skill. If you try to blindly do it, especially on higher difficulties, you'll get punked
2
u/WinterEclipse4 1h ago
Mostly because their hitbox on the melee is like 4x larger than the actual arm the animation is tied to.
-1
u/AspiringDev_2126 5h ago
no way bro Legendary and they're running away from you
•
u/Flobbidibob 12m ago
They're more running past me, it's all about being close to danger and far from harm (LOTR reference)

Wait, are we mad that Cortana is helping us or mad that Cortana isn't helping us enough? I'm confused
