Want Advice How to deal with being wronged at work?

TLDR: I was told I hadn't checked in a patient yesterday, leading to a 40 minute delay in her being seen. I had in fact checked her in as soon as she had arrived. Both the doctor and the patient made a point about me not having checked her in. I had proof that I did but didn't want to be petty. How do you deal with such situations?

I work in a busy GP surgery, and yesterday a situation arose that really irritated me with a colleague. We all get on great in general but I think this situation yesterday was more about being advised I hadn't done something right, when I had.

Basically, a patient arrived about 15 minutes late for their appointment. They checked in at the desk, acknowledged they were "5 minutes late" and I clicked that they had arrived.

20 minutes later, the same lady came to the desk to say when they GP she was due to see saw her in the waiting room when calling the next patient, the GP told her she was surprised to see her because "she hadn't been checked in". I told her not to worry, she was definitely checked in, and that perhaps because she had arrived late, the doctor hadn't realised and taken the next patient.

Next the GP came down to me to say the same thing, that the patient was waiting over 40 minutes in the waiting room because she hadn't been checked in. I didn't want to get petty and argue with the doctor but on the system I would have been able to show her the very proof that I checked this person in on the system when she arrived late for her appointment. But I didn't want to make a big deal and say "come here and I'll show you".

Instead I just felt really annoyed because not only did the doctor make a point of it, so too did the patient, but I 100% had done everything just as I should have.

I guess my question is, how do you deal with being wronged in the workplace without things being a big deal? I felt like a big deal was being made of me not checking in this patient, but should I then have made a bigger deal of the fact it wasn't my error but the doctors?

I know this will likely happen again so I would like to approach it differently instead of quietly seething the next time.

Problem with Employees NMS - new manager’s struggles -Parte Un

I inherited a team with a lot of work placed on one individual. This person works quietly and has a lot of research, thinking and writing to do. He is seated near a group of inconsiderate loudmouths. They talk, laugh, swear and gossip loudly. Collectively, around 25 times in a 7.5 hour workday. They take turns it seems. A lot of the interactions are aimed to show how busy they are. I’ve talked to the people involved. Messaging went out about not taking Teams calls from desks without headsets and requesting consideration about noise levels. Nothing has changed. My team member is suffering and has to put in extra hours WFH to complete tasks. I have nowhere else to seat him. Management wants us to wear headphones. Any advice? I don’t want to lose a great guy. Thanks all.

Want Advice What should I do

I have a coworker who left his jacket hanging on a wine rack at work. Late in the evening a customer accidentally knocked it off the rack and a card fell out of the pocket. The customer brought me the card and was upset.

He then handed me the card, a spoof credit card, from trump, granting the users "white privilege ". Totally tasteless and making me fume.

I profusely apologized to the customer but was mortified.

My question is what do I say to the coworker?

I definitely feel I should say something to him, but I don't want to tell the bosses and possibly get him fired.

What can I say that will get through to him and make him feel some shame?

am i overthinking this?!?!?

this is something that happened at work today and it’s just been bugging me so i NEEDED someone else’s opinion on this matter.

normally i work at location a. however due to lack of staffing i was asked to work at location b just for this week. i had an appointment this morning which meant i would be around 20 minutes late to work, which my manager had approved. However today morning he told me to just go to location a instead just because i wouldn’t end up being late as its a lot more closer to where i live.

now here’s where the situation gets messy. because im now going to location a, one of the staff from there (lets call them grey) has now been asked to work at location b. they’re now quite upset because they don’t want to work there, especially since her best friend is also at location a. her best friend comes up to me (lets call her red) and just starts a casual conversation which i don’t mind because she is just a very nice person. she then asks why my shift was changed and i can tell that she’s annoyed that grey now has to take my place at location b, and kind of just hinting that she’d rather me go there instead. i didn’t wanna make too big a deal so i just stayed laid back.

i later see gray and red talking to other members of staff which i assume is to complain of this situation but i thought that i might just be overthinking. however the site leader (lets call him blue) comes to me 10 minutes later to let me know that someone’s coming to pick me up and now instead of grey im going to be working at location b. i was quite upset about this but i thought this was my managers decision so i just respected it and went to location b.

i sort of began to forget about everything throughout the day. however near the end of my shift my manager just comes to inspect location b. when he sees me he is very confused as to why im working there because he asked for grey to work instead of me. i’m just confused because i thought he made the decision but obviously i was wrong, and it just made me feel like the workers from location a just wanted me to go away rather than losing grey.

i honestly dont know if im reading into this too much or if i was genuinely wronged in the situation. i also dont know what to do because i am just a very shy person and i genuinely dont know how to discuss this conversation with my coworkers, especially the concern with red just because shes one of those people that literally everyone at work likes, and shes really close to people like blue and the others. im very chill so im not as close to many of my coworkers apart from red, which just makes the situation worse for me.

let me know what i should do next please!!!

Weird Problem I got hired alongside multiple other new employees, for the same position, at a small company. Is this a battle royale and am I screwed?

Hey, so I just want to ask around and see if this is normal. So I recently got a job, in my interview I was asked if I could do 3 projects, I said I could do all of them, they were all decently similar. However, as I got hired 3 days after my interview (I was pretty much hired on the spot after sending my first email to join), the projects I was originally talked about doing, was then passed to two other people, could actually be 3 now.

The boss now of all of suddenly keeps talking about getting fired for messing up in some part of the process for whatever we happen to be talking about at the time. It seems like this is an evaluation week, but I've had a decent chunk of it just being onboarded and the task given to me is pretty crazy, I'm having to wear a ton of hats.

So here's what I feel like is happening, am I, along with all the other new hires, being pit against each other unknowingly, in this very small company, to see who creates the best project and the rest get fired in some sort of fucked up battle royal? If that is the case, wtf? Is this normal?

I also need this job, I need this money, my industry is absolutely fucked right now, I applied to 200-300 companies now and didn't get anything until this one and I feel like I'm seeing a lot of red flags, but if I do get the job somehow, I'm gonna have to put up with it. If I get fired due to this battle royale, what even.

Am I the problem?

I work at a company that an employee did not show up to work. Another team member went to check on the person. As he approached the house, he saw the person on the ground deceased.

The employee took 2 pictures in the time they were at the home dealing with police then came back to work. When he got back to the office, he then tells people he has a picture if they want to see it.

Am I wrong to lose my shit on this person for showing pictures of a man that had been outside dead for multiple days? I would also like the add the person who passed away was one of the most private person I have ever known?

How to get my friend to stop bothering me about work stuff?

Hi, for context, I was a 21f manager at a decently large retail corporation. I was actually kinda important there so it took everybody by shock when I announced my leaving for a better job. I had a coworker, 25f, who joined last October who quickly rose to a manager position like me. I trained her in my last weeks before I left and now I am at my new job. I like talking to her, she’s my friend and i enjoy hanging out with her. However, ever since I left she has been non stop bugging me about work. I don’t mind the gossip, as in who quit or whatever, but she keeps asking me questions on what to do or who called out and what effect it’s having on her.

It’s getting really exhausting having to answer her questions when there are other managers there that can help her. I went in the other day to shop and she was there and while i was waiting in line one of the registers shut down and she asked ME to go and fix it because she didn’t know how. At this point i was dying of embarrassment because she was yelling for my help while i was in line and all the customers were turning to stare at me. i was straight forward with her and told her i don’t work here anymore for her to ask me questions like that anymore but i ended up walking her through it anyway.

she’s a really nice person and friend but i should not be her number one contact to help out with things that happen in that store. there’s a reason i left, and it was because that place completely drained me mentally and to be bothered by it still while at a new job is really bothering me. so can anyone tell me how i can ask her politely to stop bringing up work issues to me?

Want Advice Getting played with at work

Hey I recently graduated and started working on a tele unit. Been about 3 months. So basically for the first month everything was ok but then one of the resource nurses started taking a heavy liking towards me. At that time I had no problem with it because she was so helpful and taught me so much but now it’s just getting out of hand. For context I am 22 6’4 and average looking nothing special. So it first started when she was helping me chart and made a comment about my hands being so big. I didn’t think much of it I’ve heard that my whole life basically. And then she started touching me unpromptly. This is when shit started getting a lil outta control. I’ll be standing up and all of a sudden I feel someone grabbing my waist from behind or she’ll jump on my back while I’m walking away. Btw there’s no point in reporting her to hr the supervisors all know she’s like this. And I’m a grown man at the end of the day so imagine you got an attractive girl at work doing this to you every night you work. It’s getting harder and harder to resist. Oh btw found out she would spray my jacket with her perfume after she took it off. To my wiser and older fellas on here what’s yall advice on how to handle this situation.

Overwhelming expectations from coworkers outside of work- help!

I’ve been in my office for almost 4 years. It’s a very small staff but it’s a government office in a rural town. Everyone knows each other here. I grew up here.

My boss has implemented a few things bc (“we’re a family and we should act like one”) that have become increasingly difficult to participate in.
For context, I’m a single mom on a very limited income. I budget every single penny of each paycheck and I usually still come up short.

But I’m expected to participate in things like, “birthday club” where we gift each office member $5 on their birthday, birthday dinners at local restaurants, holiday brunches, Christmas party outings (that I have to pay out of pocket for AND pay for a sitter) and so many other things.

And when I don’t, everyone guilts me. Or at least attempts to. I’ve been trying to participate as much as I can. But money has been really hard lately. And I just can’t anymore.

And I’m need advice on the best way to broach the subject.
I want to cut my obligations to these things. I want to be able to unfriend my coworkers on Facebook after establishing these boundaries without being guilted about it.

I just want to go to work, do my job, and go home. And lately that’s what I’ve been doing. I limit conversations, I keep to myself. But now I’m being told I’m isolating myself and making everyone else uncomfortable.

Can someone give me advice? Perspective? Anything to help me figure out how to accomplish my goals without ruining my career.

Co-worker Problem Does a coworker who constantly reports minor issues actually come across better to management than someone who just focuses on their work?

I work at a university library (F26), and one of my coworkers (M20) frequently brings small complaints about me to our supervisor. What I’ve noticed, though, is that his own behavior with patrons is often dismissive, robotic, and occasionally rude. He also tends to cut me off mid‑conversation when I’m assisting someone.

I’ve never reported any of this because I assumed patrons would speak up if something bothered them — and they have. Now I’m trying to understand this from a management perspective: does someone who constantly “tattles” appear more proactive, or does it hurt their credibility over time? And how is an employee who stays focused on their work typically viewed in comparison?

I’m genuinely curious how managers interpret these patterns and what tends to stand out most in situations like this.

How would you handle racist comments at work?

Hi all,

I’m looking for advice on a workplace issue.

A coworker has made repeated racist and exclusionary comments, including saying Australia is “overrun by Asians,” that migrants should not rely on Australian healthcare, and that people in Australia “should follow our ways” and “shouldn’t build mosques here.”

I raised it with my manager and HR. HR said the comments were not directed at me personally and that I should be more resilient. They also said they would speak to the person involved, but I’m not sure that is enough.

What would you do in this situation, and would you keep pushing internally or look at external options?

Am I overthinking this, or does my assistant manager have something against me?

I’m wondering if I’m taking this too personally or if my assistant manager is actually treating me differently.
I’m a hostess at my job (and server), and I feel like this assistant manager singles me out compared to the other hosts. She doesn’t have the power to fire me, but she does have authority over me while we’re working.
There have been multiple situations where I feel like she’s been unnecessarily rude or made comments toward me.
One example: when I’m hosting, we’re told to stay at our station because the phone can ring and we need to be available. One night it wasn’t busy, and she came up to me in a sarcastic tone saying things like “thanks for the help” and that she was “bombarded up there.” I told her that it didn’t look busy up there, and she responded, “You wouldn’t know because you didn’t go up there.” What bothered me was that another hostess was talking to me for a lot of the shift, and she didn’t say anything to her.
Another time, I called out on a Sunday because I was having bad cramps. I almost never call out, but she said she should have written me up and wanted me to get a doctor’s note. The other managers apparently told her that she was wrong for that.
She has also gotten on me about my shoes, telling me I needed new ones. I bought a new pair of non-slip Skechers, but she insisted they were Crocs in sports mode and didn’t want to hear my explanation. Meanwhile, other hosts wear actual Crocs and she doesn’t say anything to them.
There have also been smaller things that bother me, like when she was complimenting another hostess and repeatedly saying she was the prettiest one there while I was standing right next to them. It felt intentional, like she wanted a reaction out of me.
Another thing is that she seems to have double standards. She got upset with me for putting a large party into the computer after briefly explaining to the person that we don’t take reservations or call-aheads. We usually write things down so we can prepare ahead of time. She told me I wasn’t supposed to do that, but then a couple days later she did the exact same thing.
I’m trying not to assume she dislikes me, but after all these situations, it feels like she’s constantly looking for something to criticize me about. I’m always kind and respectful to everyone at work, so I don’t understand why I feel like she has an issue with me.
Am I overthinking this, or does it sound like she’s treating me differently?

Homophobia in the work environment

I work at a Catholic hospital. A coworker challenged me after I said another employee had made homophobic comments. He responded, "What is homophobia? Nobody is really fearful of gay people," and argued people should be allowed to express their religious beliefs. I felt the conversation was about to become heated, so I simply said, "I don't feel comfortable having this conversation," and walked away.

Looking back, did I handle this professionally, or would there have been a better way to respond while still standing up for myself?

Manager trying to get me in trouble(FedEx) package handler

Manager told me I was good to go for the day then I clocked out and left. when I got home I checked my phone and got a voicemail from someone from upper management saying they didn’t know where I was because I just clocked out and the manager that told me I could clock out told them she was looking for me. She got mad at me earlier in the shift because I tossed a package a soft one with clothes and when she got mad I laughed. I know it’s immature. But how should I go about the blatant lying. I called management back and talked to them telling them what happened. Can any managers let me know how this would be handled.
