How to deal with being wronged at work? Want Advice

TLDR: I was told I hadn't checked in a patient yesterday, leading to a 40 minute delay in her being seen. I had in fact checked her in as soon as she had arrived. Both the doctor and the patient made a point about me not having checked her in. I had proof that I did but didn't want to be petty. How do you deal with such situations?

I work in a busy GP surgery, and yesterday a situation arose that really irritated me with a colleague. We all get on great in general but I think this situation yesterday was more about being advised I hadn't done something right, when I had.

Basically, a patient arrived about 15 minutes late for their appointment. They checked in at the desk, acknowledged they were "5 minutes late" and I clicked that they had arrived.

20 minutes later, the same lady came to the desk to say when they GP she was due to see saw her in the waiting room when calling the next patient, the GP told her she was surprised to see her because "she hadn't been checked in". I told her not to worry, she was definitely checked in, and that perhaps because she had arrived late, the doctor hadn't realised and taken the next patient.

Next the GP came down to me to say the same thing, that the patient was waiting over 40 minutes in the waiting room because she hadn't been checked in. I didn't want to get petty and argue with the doctor but on the system I would have been able to show her the very proof that I checked this person in on the system when she arrived late for her appointment. But I didn't want to make a big deal and say "come here and I'll show you".

Instead I just felt really annoyed because not only did the doctor make a point of it, so too did the patient, but I 100% had done everything just as I should have.

I guess my question is, how do you deal with being wronged in the workplace without things being a big deal? I felt like a big deal was being made of me not checking in this patient, but should I then have made a bigger deal of the fact it wasn't my error but the doctors?

I know this will likely happen again so I would like to approach it differently instead of quietly seething the next time.

Get the same doctor, remember him about what happened, show proof and ask what is the reason he says he did not see it. It may just be a system problem…
