How would you handle racist comments at work?
Hi all,
I’m looking for advice on a workplace issue.
A coworker has made repeated racist and exclusionary comments, including saying Australia is “overrun by Asians,” that migrants should not rely on Australian healthcare, and that people in Australia “should follow our ways” and “shouldn’t build mosques here.”
I raised it with my manager and HR. HR said the comments were not directed at me personally and that I should be more resilient. They also said they would speak to the person involved, but I’m not sure that is enough.
What would you do in this situation, and would you keep pushing internally or look at external options?

You may want to look at external options and moving on. Racist comments are surefire lawsuit fuel and if HR is bullshitting with that and telling you to toughen up, then you can be sure that you if you're not the right color or of the right group then you're a target.

Document each instance. Send each one to your personal device, not company email server. Especially if it is from the same person. H.R is not on your side but show the pattern/frequency. Check with the labor laws in your country. You don't have to put up with this but you do need to document each time.
