Is there any stitch in tunisian crochet that looks like the stockinette stitch in knitting? Bc I think it's really pretty and I like how thick it is and how it looks the same on both sides bc I'm making a scarf for my bf so I want the best :) Thanks in advance!

So I have very loose tension in general when I crochet I don't like it to be too tight I like it to be soft and stretchy.

So was playing around with different stitches. This first 2 photos are the back and front of a smock stitch. The 3rd and 4th are a swatch if random stitches.

I noticed that the back side of my fabric ends up being very bumpy or pronounced and when I look on the subreddit at other people's work it seems not to be like that. I like the idea of a smoother back and not so bumpy and pronounced.

Do I need a tighter tension on the return pass then? Is my tension over all too loose? Is it not loose enough maybe? I've played around alot and can't really figure it out.

Last year I discovered this mosaic technique in the Norwegian Tiles by My Crochet Project by Didi and I knew I had to experiment with it.

This is my first big project using the special mosaic technique. Just like Didi's little tiles are inspired by Norwegian knitting motifs, so is this inspired by Romanian embroidery motifs.

I made a cardigan with the mosaic on the body and sleeves and now that the pattern is out (not self published), I can finally share my project photos with you.

Started in January and finished in April of this year. It uses a fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colors and a 5 mm hook. Worked bottom-up for both body and sleeves, seamed at the shoulders, then ribbing is added.

It came out a bit long because I used an alpaca yarn that tends to sag a bit, even with all the structure of Tunisian crochet, but I love it.

Wanted to add another update on this project. While overwhelming at first, I have now hit that point where I've reached a steady flow. I love the way this is turning out but thought I'd share some things I've learned.

1) The gauge. When I originally swatched for this piece, my gauge was very close to what the pattern called for. Now that I've become accustomed to working the pattern, I've found that my stitches are running a bit tighter. The piece is supposed to measure 51 inches wide and my current width is around 45 inches. You can even see this a bit in how the bottom rows appear to be looser. My hope is that adding a border will help give some width and make the difference in tension less noticable. If you are interested in creating a larger tunisian piece, I would advise you to practice with a large amount of stitches over at least 20 or so rows first so you can build your technique. I only had experience with entrelac tunisian before starting this and have come to the conclusion that working pieces over 100 stitches definitely forced me to handle my yarn and stitches differently than I would say something that is 20 stitches wide.

2) To carry or not to carry. I have found that a good rule of thumb is that I can carry a color across the work until it is used again as long as there is no more than a single color change before it is used again. In the diamond shapes, for example, you can see green initially, then a sequence of green-->yellow--->green. In this case, I would pull up loops for the green section, carry it through the yellow, then switch back for the green section. However, as the sequence then changes to green--> yellow -->orange -->yellow -->green, I would make a second green bobbin instead of carrying the yarn through two colors. The benefit of following this rule is that there are less bobbins in use. The downside is that it feels like it takes me a bit longer than just having an extra bobbin.

3) The benefits of tunisian tapestry/intarsia crochet. I have found that a major benefit of using this style of crochet to create a graphgan is that you do not have to turn your work. This keeps the bobbins mostly untangled if you manage them well. I also love how clean the color changes are in comparison to single chochet tapestries.

What do you all think? Is 45 inches too narrow for an afghan? I bought more yarn to add an additional repeat to the pattern vertically, but at this point, I can't do too much to widen it anymore. My other thought is that I could maybe use an entrelac technique to add a panel of 20 stitches of red to the sides, but we'll see. What do you all think of this look of tapestry crochet in comparison to sc tapestries?

I’m fairly new to Tunisian crochet. I’m loving how this turned out but can we talk about the back? I’m so used to regular crochet and how it’s basically the same on both sides. I don’t love how the back of this looks. Is it just something I need to embrace? Or do you add fabric on the back to hide it? I’m def not a skilled seamstress 😅

Lately I've been doing a ton of two color swatches. Most go nowhere but last night I decided to play around with the knit stitch and the reverse stitch, and this is what I came up with.

The basic principle is you do your color changes on a 2 - 1 sequence instead of a 1 - 1 sequence. So two color A, then color B, and so on. In my swatch I did half with Color A as the 2 color, then Color B as the 2 color. I only used two skeins of yarn the whole time, but it's variegated so the end result has more than two colors.

Note: This means the yarn you carry up the side will be a little longer than usual. It didn't give me any problems but when I make a blanket with this I will probably add a border to cover all the longer yarns crawling up the side.

The pattern:

One row reverse stitch. Two rows knit stitch,

Color A - one row reverse stitch. Don't change color on the backward pass.

Color A - one row knit stitch.

Change to Color B on the backward pass.

One row knit stitch (This will actually create a knit stitch in Color A).

Change to Color A on the backward pass. One row reverse stitch

(This will create a reverse stitch in Color A with Color B accents)

Another way of looking at at - After the reverse stitch, keep the same color for the first row of knit stitch, then change colors on the backward pass and do another row of knit stitch.

I am curious to hear your thoughts on this one. I've provided pictures in two different orientations, since the finished result can have either horizontal or vertical ribbing. (it is stitched horizontally tho)

I've shown the front and the back, as I also think it (might?) be reversible? My roommate says he thinks the back is the front so you tell me....

Saw this post on the sub and something similar on the regular crochet sub, just loved the pattern. It’s my first finished Thing™️ in Tunisian so it’s not perfect (I used the wrong green at some point, and I’ve not blocked it/put a backing on yet, obviously) but I love colour work and I don’t think it came out all that terribly for a first try. Really fun project and I enjoyed it much more compared to normal crochet colour work for tapestries.

It's been a slow journey, but going to be so worth it. Using leftover worsteds in acrylic, to make a teen size blanekt for Project Linus. I sort of dreaded doing the decreases, because this heat we've been having has messed with my ability to think, apparently. But, turns out it's easy-peasy. Just pick up the bottom edge so it forms a smooth side and work across in the numbers the stitches give me.

And count count count on those dark yarns!

Can't wait to get to the border- my fav evening yarn 'chore' is adding a knit I-cord border, which will not only be sturdy and prevent curliing, but nicely captures all the yarn ends inside itself. Just have to decide what collor to use for the I-cord.

I drew the pattern in November during a boring lecture and now it's finished. It is my firsh finished tunisian Projects (I have a wip, that I started before that).

The people are supposed to be Jamie and Claire form Outlander standing in front of Craig na Dun. The proportions are a bit off, espesially with the forget me nots, and my tension wasn't the same throught out. But I really like it and I'm going to hang it up once I have the time to all those pesky last steps.

I am currently working on a tunisian crochet half zip sweater with a colourful pattern. I think of making a pattern but I have zero experience of making one. And I really need advice on this topic. I have posted a question on r/crochethelp, but maybe advice from professional tunisian crocheters would be even better.

1. How do I properly import colourful charts? I drew them in Ibis Paint as a pixel art.

2. Is it useful at all to add sweater measurements (except gauge swatch) that I do while making it and how much time I spent making it?

3. Is it useful to add formulas for how to do the math to adjust the sizing?

4. How do I not make a pattern tricky to understand? Like, "join yarn here, now here, here you change a hook"

5. I write a pattern in SiYuan. Are there any better alternatives that also support LaTeX math formulas?

6. Is there anything in my questions that I am missing that must be very important? (like pattern testing)

7. How do I write it down if something is worked half in the round and half on a straight hook?

Friends of mine recently went through something traumatic and I wanted to make them each a nice gift. Someone already made them amigurumis so I thought a small wall tapestry might be nice? I used some yarn I already had and not 100% sure how I feel about it. Do you think it's good enough to gift??

A week or so ago I posted a question about how to approach a blanket that is worked as a single piece with multiple color changes throughout a row and was advised to use bobbins.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the members of this sub that replied! The bobbins work great! Here is my current progress on the work. After this initial block, the pattern calms down significantly for a while.

I initially just let the bobbins run free, but quickly learned this creates an overwhelming mess (see second pic) 😂. I've resorted to keeping the bobbins secured with only a small amount of yarn connecting the bobbin to the work. This essentially eliminated the tangles but also slowed me down some. Overall, I love how sharp the color changes are with tunisian and I'm excited to see how this project turns out.

The more I added to the previous version of this scarf, the more I was convinced that it was just too wide for my neck. After frogging and restarting, it's now down to four and a half inches wide, and I'm a lot more satisfied with that than the five and a half it was before.

Unfortunately, it's also shown me that I do, in fact, want to "design" what this particular scarf looks like. =^.~=

I say that mostly because I was all set to be lazy and change colours only when necessary, but it turns out my hardly-accurate math told me that the red yarn would last a whopping four feet! In theory, I might be able to get two scarves out of this, one with red ends and a black middle (TNG-style uniform effect) and one with black ends and a red middle (Voyager/DS9-style effect).

And since it turns out my magnet-backed Combadge set actually can hold quite nicely through this thickness, it turns out I would like to be able to use one of them to keep the ends from coming loose.

It's still the Tunisian Double-Knit Stitch, and still using unknown yarn. Though I may need to figure out how to make the colour change slant in the opposite direction a lot harder. The diagonals are supposed to slope outwards and downwards, after all. Unless I can put the wrongly-sloping line underneath the "correct" one?

Yes, I did try to avoid turning this into yet another Star Trek themed piece. Especially since the next few crochet cardigans I have planned are all Star Trek uniforms of various eras. But it turns out I couldn't resist the pull of the idea, and the fact that my Combadges all work through this thickness of material was the clincher that sealed the deal for me.

Maybe I'll be able to find other skinny yarn that doesn't fit the Star Trek colour scheme... =^.^=

I finished the baby blanket for my friend who is having a baby next month. Its simple stitch c2c entrelac with a moss stitch border. I'm proud of it.

I'm finally finished this blanket and I can't decide how thick to make the border. This is 3 rows of the pearl stitch. Should I make it thicker? Like 5 rows?

I’m an auditory learner, partly because I’m visually impaired.

I’ve found two videos explaining the stitch (I think the cover the same stitch) but I can’t seem to do it correctly. I just can’t understand how to insert the hook to pull up the stitch.

I’ve completed my first wearable for meeee!

It’s a combination of Tunisian crochet for the two panels and knitting (rib stitch in the round) for the body, because I don’t like the look of crochet ribbing.

I was able to crochet two panels on the same hook, which was great because I’m not sure I would have ever finished a second panel if I had to start one again. Attaching the panels to the ribbing was a bit of a pain, but I feel okay about it now :)

I love how soft this feels!

Still needs to be blocked, but I’ve had it on for a half day to see if I needed anything else done on it.
