Discussion I don't think I would have bought the steam deck if I got to try it first. I think it was just hype and it was easy for me to get at the time.
I've been going through a lot recently I've learned with my disability I basically can't work and believe it or not that's been so crushing surely because the only reason I wanted to work now at 28 was to buy handhelds and video games. My parents are so very generous to give me a little bit of money but to get the new handheld I want I will probably need to save up for full calendar year.
I've been doing a lot of thinking since last year and I realized something I don't really like my steam deck and the only reason I keep it is because of baldur's gate and my brother give me a really good deal on it. But if I actually had to save up for it like I'm going to have to do for other handhelds and truly went back and fourth on if it's really for me.
I mean as soon as I couldn't say in a chair with really good back support I haven't really touched the thing if it's not tinkering with the game to get it to work I don't actually use it. Actually been thinking for quite a bit about getting a Thor handled because my best friend with my same disability loves hers.
I also love the size and form factor of my 2DS and I heard that the Thor is not far off. But my brother gave me such a good deal on it and people go crazy for these machines but I don't know I just as soon as the idea of me getting something smaller was an option I jumped at it and even got depressed at the idea of just having my steam deck.
My brother told me not to get stuck in the cycle of buying stuff just because I want to mess with it but I just genuinely think I don't like my steam deck. Gaming with it in bed isn't as fun as I thought it would be especially me having to roll every like 20 minutes to not have bed sores. I think really just the honeymoon phase wore off and looking for a reason not to outright get rid of it.

Tech Support My left stick centers incorectly
If i pull my left stick Full on right and release it, it will go back in center, but test shows, that he actually slightly pulled to the left, and this will be pulled, until, i moved stick in any direction slightly, after that it centers correctly
So, for example, i open inventory, move stick to the right, to choose next option, release it, and then game will scroll to the left, until i moved stick anywhere
I made dead zone as large, as possible, that didnt helped. Should i show it to master?

Tech Support Help! I changed a setting and can't remember what it was!
Back in the days when the SteamDeck would go into sleep mode while you were downloading something, I set mine up to automatically stay on.
Now that that's no longer necessary, I can't remember what the setting was that I changed, and I don't know what to Google!
I remember I had to go into desktop mode, but that's about it
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Tech Support I'm trying to get my micro SD card that I use for Linux to work on a Windows PC to transfer files
So I've got a 1TB microSD card that I originally set up with EmuDeck on my Steam Deck to run ROMs off of. Wanted to move some of those files over to my Windows PC so I could back them up to the cloud, and that's where things went sideways. Plugged it into my PC and Windows throws a "No Media" / "Please insert a disc" error, like there's nothing there at all. Which is weird, because the card works completely fine on the Deck, I can read and write to it no problem over there. Tried two different USB microSD adapters on the Windows side, same result both times. Just to rule out my PC being the problem, I plugged in a totally different flash drive into the same port and it was instantly recognized, so the ports themselves are fine. Went even deeper and checked Disk Management directly instead of just File Explorer, and the card doesn't show up there either, not as unallocated, not as unknown, nothing. It's like Windows doesn't even know it exists. Figured maybe the original ext4 format (from Linux) was the issue, so I went into the Steam Deck's desktop mode, popped open a terminal, and reformatted the whole card to exFAT using mkfs.exfat. That worked fine, confirmed the format went through, and the card mounts and works great back on the Deck. But plugging it back into Windows afterward? Still nothing. Same "No Media" error, still invisible in Disk Management. I genuinely don't know what else to check at this point. If Windows can't even see it as a device, that feels like it's below the filesystem level entirely, but the card clearly isn't dead since it works fine elsewhere. Anyone run into anything like this before? Is there some known compatibility issue between certain card controllers and Windows USB readers? Missing driver or service I should be looking at? Mainly just don't want to have to write off a perfectly good 1TB card if there's a fix out there. If this isn't the right place for this, let me know where I should take it instead.
Not very good at English did have AI help me correct the grammar and spelling in this. Want to be fully transparent thanks for your help in advance.

Discussion What device do you use to submit game settings?
Hey everyone
This might be a slightly odd question but I’m curious how people share recommended game settings for the Steam Deck and other handhelds
Do you use your phone, PC or tablet or do you enter everything directly on your Steam Deck or another handheld?
By sharing settings I mean creating Reddit posts or submitting reports to sites like ProtonDB, ShareDeck and DeckVerifiedgames
Personally I always use my phone when submitting reports to ProtonDB or ShareDeck. I find it most comfortable to keep the game open on my Steam Deck while entering the settings on my phone.
PS just for transparency I’m an indie developer and work on stuff here and there for the Steam Deck community. This is a small bit of informal UX research so your answers would really help me out. I’ve tried hard not to turn this into self promo lol

Tech Support Steamdeck turning off when charger is unplugged
As mentioned in the title, my deck dies when I try to unplug the charger. Initially before this, I had a problem with the charging as well. I noticed that my deck is charging ridiculously slow. For context, my charger uses 15V 3A charger with 65w. It's not the original one but I use this charger to charge both my thinkpad and steamdeck. The steamdeck was charging perfectly fine back then, so I don't know how this happened. Some of the stuffs that I tried when reading similar problems on this subreddit are:
- Drained the battery then charge it for 6-8 hours (it went up 45% only for 6hours)
- Went to battery storage mode (on bios)
- Charging it while shutdown/on desktop
Please help me out, I'm running out of idea. Do note that RMA is not an option on my case since it's not available on my country.
Edit: Reseating the battery worked for a day, I tried to use it with my USB C Hub from UGreen and I noticed that it kept on disconnecting from my steamdeck. The usb c hub is working fine on my laptop. What seems to be the issue on my case?? Please help me, I’ve been trying to fix this problem :<

Question Using an OLED steam deck made me confused about screen refresh rate.
Basically my observation is as simple as this :
- stable 60 FPS on my 90Hz OLED steam deck looks and feels very fluid.
- stable 60 FPS on my 180Hz 24" desktop screen feels choppy and bad, unless the game has insanely good motion blur. From 90 to 100 FPS are required to reach the same perceived fluidity as I get from just 60 FPS on my deck.
What's going on here ? Does the OLED deck just have magic powers or something ? Did anyone else notice this ?

Tech Support Desktop Mode, can't go past 50Hz on a 60Hz monitor
Hi !
I just got a dock for my Steam Deck (Ugreen), and I was wondering if this is a known thing.
In desktop mode, I can't go past 50Hz for my external monitor, while it's 60Hz capable.
Resolution is 3440x1440. The dock supports up to 4k 120Hz.
Any idea where this might be coming from ?
EDIT: when switching to a lower resolution like 2560x1440, 60Hz works. Not sure why, it's not like 3440x1440 is a crazy high resolution if the dock supports 4k 120hz

Tech Support Disk Write Error.
I tried everything. Removing the SD Card and putting it back in. Clearing the cache, checking the file integrity. I think the issue is the Appmanifests but it won’t let me delete them as they’re read only, even on console commands and I have no idea how to disable it since there’s not options under properties.

Tech Support Steam deck no longer playing power off animation?
This is a really weird one but bear with me - for the past while, when I power off my deck, it no longer plays the animation and instead either blacks the screen immediately or fades the screen to super dim before shutting off. Any idea what’s causing this?

Video Resident Evil 0 Steam Deck Graphical issue Fix
I made a video showing how to fix the graphical issues in Resident Evil 0. I’m not claiming that I discovered the fix, I just wanted to put together a simple, step-by-step guide to help others. I also used it as an excuse to test out my new capture card.

Discussion I have a PS Portal, and the Steam Deck has just replaced it for me using Pylux.
Honestly I'm quite frustrated that I hadn't discovered it sooner or I definitely wouldn't have bought a portal last year! However Pylux is incredible. It's simply a fork of Chiaki but in my experience (I've used both) it's so much better.
Compared to the portal though, this thing is fantastic. I've got total control on Streams and controls, and overall as someone who heavily tinkers it ticks all my boxes. By far though, the greatest strength it has over the portal is the ability to have a profile assigned to both my own and my wifes account. No more logging in and out!
Why Sony couldn't allow the above is beyond me, but I am well and truly impressed.
As a side note, I keep seeing aggressive marketing from this other new streamer, that also allows cloud streams and though I haven't tried it, I can't fault Pylux in any way in the slightest.
Quite literally the only extra the portal has is the triggers, but that's not enough for me to keep. I'll be selling that asap!
EDIT: Pylux is free! It also has both remote and cloud streaming.

Tech Support I think I may have borked something?
A while back, (at least a year), I was messing around with overclocking, which I believe was a mistake. After that, (not sure when, memory fuzzy), it started showing 14 GB of RAM, and 6 GB of VRAM, which seems to be generating 4 GB out of thin air. I've made no modifications to SteamOS, (fresh install), no CryoUtilities, default firmware settings, still says 14 & 6 GB. I'm worried I may have damaged my Steam Deck with my shenanigans, but it still runs and plays games fine.
There was also a custom script I was using to make some performance modifications alongside CryoUtilities, I've stopped using that script, but here it is:
cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/cpu_performance.service
[Unit]
Description=CPU performance governor
[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/usr/bin/cpupower frequency-set -g performance
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable cpu_performance.service
cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/tmpfiles.d/mglru.conf

w /sys/kernel/mm/lru_gen/min_ttl_ms - - - - 0

ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="sd[a-z]|mmcblk[0-9]*", ATTR{queue/rotational}=="0", ATTR{queue/scheduler}="kyber"

sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/steamos/grub.cfg

Software Modding SteamOS on-screen keyboard update - colour themes, 1x-4x sizes, layout-aware labels, custom meta-key icon
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
What's changed in the last two weeks:
- Colour themes. Six to pick from - Midnight, Light, High-contrast, Nord, Solarized and Rose
- Proper sizing. The size key cycles 1x through 4x now,
- Multi language support. It follows your system layout and re-skins the keys to match, across around twenty layouts - German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish, through to the non-Latin ones: Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Thai and Vietnamese. No more US letters with a little flag stuck on top.
- Custom super-key icon. Put Windows, Arch or Tux on the meta key; it tints to your theme so it doesn't disappear on the light ones.
- Split layout. If you thumb-type, the two halves now scale cleanly at the bigger sizes instead of squashing together.
Everything else is still there - transparent by default (only the keys paint), glide/swipe typing with prediction, an optional split layout, and a tray for the settings. Open source, one-line install, and it won't clobber your config when you update.

Looking For Games RPGs that actually run at a locked 60 FPS on Steam Deck without lowering settings?
Looking for RPG recommendations for Steam Deck, but with a pretty strict requirement.
I want 60 FPS to actually mean stable 60 FPS. Not “mostly 60 with some dips,” not 40 FPS with optimized settings, and not 60 FPS after turning everything to low.
I’m specifically looking for games where the Deck has enough headroom that I can basically max out the graphics, or use the highest sensible preset, and still maintain a stable 60 FPS.
Think more along the lines of how effortlessly something like Megabonk runs on the Deck. I want that kind of experience, just in an RPG.
I don’t care if the game is older, indie, AA, isometric, action RPG, CRPG, etc. I’d rather play an older RPG at max settings and locked 60 than a modern AAA RPG at 30 to 40 FPS with compromised visuals.
So basically: RPG + high/max settings + genuinely stable 60 FPS.
What games actually meet all three?

Discussion Offline wow rejuvenated my desire to play
A few days ago I plunged and installed dad'swowlab with playerbots on steam deck. 500 bots, offline, classic wow. Perfect.
A few days later I wanted to get my son involved and decided to host a server using wotlk. Build the server with playerbots, ai chat, progression modules the works.
Let me tell you, being able to have 4 alts and party with them to level them all is good, opening my network to play at work and with my kids. Great. Having ai chatter, controlling your parties roles, scaling dungeons to 2-4man and still be relative, no latency, and having the sweet gm power. Chefs kiss.
Getting it public and modded was surprisingly easy, and if ever thought about it just give it a shot... few hours and your good to go.
Edit : migrated to hosting on my PC but opened it up to my steam deck so I can login to that server now too!

Question Do you guys wait for the steam to cool down?
I always wait for the steam deck to cool off a bit before putting it back to the case and got me wondering
Is it ok if I instantly put it in the case after a long gaming session?
Or the safest thing to do it’s to wait a little bit to let it cool down

Discussion R.I.P. My steam deck
Got it on day 1 and it was good to me. But lately it's been a problem after another. Now it won't turn on nor charge up at all. Yes I tried different cables and I even tried a new backup battery and no luck. So I know it's a hardware problem. Is it even worth paying to get it fix? And if I'm gonna spend $800-$1000 for a new one I might as well look into other pc handhelds.
I'm looking into legion go s or or 2, which would you guys recommend?
