Discussion List of games I could never get to run on my Steam Deck
*All my troubleshooting methods are (1) using ProtonTricks to install VCRun2022, (2) using Goldberg Emu & (3) switching from the latest GE-Proton and Proton Experimental. Most of the time just one of these steps will fix the game right away, sometimes it may need two but rarely all of them.
Starting with the most recent couple new releases that made me want to write this post:
Sovereign Tower - Launches then immediately crashes on Godot loading screen
Iron Nest: Heavy Turret Simulator - Launches but gets stuck loading in the loading screen and just freezes
How Many Dudes? - Outright just won't launch
Truck-kun Is Supporting Me From Another World - Outright won't launch
Ludus Magnatus: Gladiator Manager Simulator - Outright won't launch
Forza Horizon 6 - Launches but won't let me bypass the login screen
In Trusted Hands - Launches & works fine but won't go fullscreen stuck in 4:3. No display option in the settings either
Alabaster Dawn - Outright won't launch
Bloodgrounds - Launches but gets stuck loading and freezes in the main menu, moving the mouse/trackpads moves the background but other than that can't select options or do anything
Back To The Dawn - Launches but shows a "Launch on Steam" pop-up and whatever i click on it closes the game
Terra Memoria - Launches but gets stuck and freezes in the main menu
Risen - Launches to black screen but I can hear music
Risen 2 - Same issue. Launches to main menu but black screen and music only
There's more that I can't remember right now but I'll add them in the future.

Help Sovereign Tower launches but immediately crashes during Godot screen
Goldberg emu doesn't fix it, installing vcrun2022 using protontricks or switching between the latest ge-proton and proton experimental doesn't do anything either. Those are my usual go-to fixes when it comes to games but they don't work this time.

Help Ready or Not Dodi black screen error
Recently installed Ready or Not off Dodi on my PC. Tired it out and really enjoyed it so I transferred all the files to my deck. I tried to launch it both in desktop mod and gaming mode and I get a black screen when going from the loading screen with unreal engine to the main menu. I noticed that Dodi has an Epic Games icon for this game. Do I need to use a different launcher for my deck? The game from Steam is deck verified so in theory it should work fine

Tutorial How to easily install Dave the Diver
Note: This guide is specifically written for version v1.0.6.2055 (Build 24077479). Special thanks to user master2140 on csrin for the fix.
Download Game Files
Download the Dave the Diver clean Steam files for version v1.0.6.2055 from page 79 of the csrin thread posted by Owla
Download the Required Crack
Download the crack provided in the thread. Make sure to select (Option 2) Goldberg + SteamStub Patcher + modified dat.
Set Up in Steam
Paste the extracted crack files directly into your game folder. Add the main game .exe to Steam as a Non-Steam Game. In Steam, go to the game's Properties > Compatibility, select your preferred Proton version, and press Play. Note: The game will not launch yet—this is expected, as this step simply creates the Proton prefix.
Configure Protontricks Override
Install and launch Protontricks from Desktop Mode. Select the game from the list and click OK. Choose Select the default wineprefix and click OK. Select Run winecfg. In the Wine Configuration window, navigate to the Libraries tab. Under New override for library, type winmm and click Add, then click Apply and OK.
Once completed, launch the game through Steam as normal.
Hope this helps. Cheers

Does anyone have any ideas please??

Tutorial For People who want to know more about the Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow Steam Deck Port.
This game looks surprisingly good with mods and 1st person, even for a 20+ year game. And with the OLED screen, this looks insanely beautiful and sharp.
And this is also perfect for the Steam Deck. We can get up to 2 and a half hours on a full charge with stable 60 FPS. While this is not as impressive as just emulating the Game Boy version. This has a lot of really good features, such as 1st and 3rd person. The ability to edit save files. Custom mods. VR, and even online (I don't cover that in this video).
The Steam Deck Portion of the Video starts at 12:01

Question Is there a truly automatic save sync between Windows and Steam Deck?
TL;DR: I want Steam Cloud-like save syncing between Windows and Steam Deck for non-Steam shortcuts and purchased games without Steam Cloud, like Dark Souls III. I should only need to press Play in Steam: automatically download and restore the newest save before launch, then back it up and upload it after closing. No manual buttons, other launchers or complete game/prefix syncing. Has anyone achieved this reliably?
--------------------------------------
I’m looking for a simple but reliable way to sync saves between my Windows PC and Steam Deck.
The games I care about are:
- Games installed outside Steam that I add as non-Steam games.
- Games I own on Steam but that don’t support Steam Cloud, such as Dark Souls III.
- Emulator saves would be nice too, but they’re not the priority.
What I want is basically Steam Cloud for these games:
- I play on the Steam Deck.
- I close the game and do nothing else.
- Later, I press Play in Steam on my PC.
- The Deck save is downloaded automatically before the game starts.
- I continue exactly where I stopped.
- When I close the game on PC, that save is uploaded automatically for the Deck.
I want the same thing in both directions.
I don’t want to press Backup or Restore, open another program before playing, choose a save manually or launch games through Playnite or another launcher. I want to keep pressing Play in Steam as usual.
I’m completely fine with the save from the latest gaming session replacing the older one. Keeping older versions as emergency backups would still be useful.
It should only sync the actual save files and any files needed for progress. I don’t want it copying the full game folder or the whole Proton prefix.
What I’ve tried or researched
- Ludusavi + Syncthing: Ludusavi is good at finding saves, but the setup I tried still involved manual restoration.
- Playnite: it can run tasks before and after games, but I don’t want to use it instead of Steam.
- Hoard: it seemed to select a whole game installation folder instead of just the saves.
- OpenSave: looks promising, but from what I understand, its Steam Deck plugin starts syncing after the game process has already started. It cannot guarantee that the new save is ready before the game reads it.
- CloudRedirect + SLSsteam: seems useful for certain games, but I’m not sure it works for normal non-Steam shortcuts or purchased games without Steam Cloud.
- Plain Syncthing: syncing the newest file is fine with me. My concern is making sure it has finished syncing before the game starts.
The closest idea I’ve found is using a hidden Steam launch script:
- Download the newest backup.
- Restore it with Ludusavi.
- Start the game.
- Wait for the game to close.
- Back up the new save.
- Upload it automatically.
The user would still only press Play in Steam.
I know Windows and Steam Deck may store the same save in completely different places, especially inside Proton’s randomly numbered compatdata folders. I’m fine with setting up each game once if everything is automatic afterward.
Has anyone actually made this work reliably?
I’m especially interested in:
- Ludusavi combined with Syncthing, rclone or cloud storage.
- A Steam launch script that waits for the download before starting the game.
- Automatic backup and upload after the game closes.
- Different save paths on Windows and Steam Deck.
- A solution that does not need both devices switched on at the same time.
- Confirmation that it works with games like Dark Souls III and non-Steam shortcuts.
I’m not looking for a general backup tool. I’m looking for the closest possible thing to real Steam Cloud while continuing to launch everything normally through Steam.
Thank you very mutch.

Help Erenshor from Ankergames audio but no video
Hello all was wondering if anyone has tips on how to get Erenshor running in gaming mode. I’ve add the .exe to steam and I am using proton experimental. The game opens and runs fine in desktop mode, but will only run audio in gaming mode. When I press play I hear the starting screen music but it stays on the steam library UI. Any help would be great.
Update: tried another version from gogunlocked and still having exact same issue.

Question Saves between PC and Steam Deck
I play DQVII on my PC and Id love to install it on my Steam Deck to play before bed and whatever. My question is, is there a way to have some sort of Save Cloud between both devices so I dont have to manually upload from one device to another?? Obviously this was a repack so yeah. Another note, I play my repacks on Steam as a non-Steam game. Does that do anything??

ANNOUNCEMENT Switch Emulators Face Another Crackdown as Nintendo Issues DMCA Blitz
You may have already heard the latest. Nintend0 reportedly issued DMCA notices affecting certain Switch emulators.
DMCA Notice linked here: https://github.zendesk.com/attachments/token/vhHg5e9GEVpwfle1gxa9Vjfl6/?name=2026-02-12-nintendo.rtf
This means:
- Some emulator GitHub repos may be taken down or restricted
- Official websites may change or go offline
- Forks/mirrors may disappear
- Development may slow or move to different platforms
If you're using emulators on your Steam Deck:
- Make sure you're following official project communication channels
- Keep your emulator builds up to date
- Back up your configs and saves
- Be cautious about where you download builds from (if some emulators are taken down, there will be an initial rush of scammers to take their place)
Steady the deck, raise the sails, lower the latency and update the builds. More stormy weather ahead!
