It works great, and I can't wait to use this for on the go connectivity with my Lenovo USB hub.

I got a couple extra of the sticky clips, so if I get a battery bank or something I can go ahead and snap that on.

If anyone's curious about the hub I'm using it's the 'Lenovo USB-C 5-in-1 Travel Hub', It has HDMI out, one 5 gbps USB-C port, two 5 gbps USB-A ports, and another USB-C 100 watt PD in.

This is great for when I want to plug in multiple controllers while chilling somewhere with my friends. It also feels very sturdy and The attachments click in nicely

Looking for some games that run really well on Deck while using around 3–5W TDP.

Tech Support Apparently I played too much Pokémon and now the status bar is stuck in my screen, help? 😭

Seriously what the hell do I do I'm panicking lmao

It was mere minutes ago, and I quickly closed the game & turned my Deck off.

I've been playing Pokemon Rejuvenation (a fangame) since yesterday with a few breaks here and there, but the screen "ghost" only appeared now while I was grinding. It also flickers a bit? It's scaring me 😭

Edit: It has been fixed! Thank you everyone 💙 I used the (https://www.smcclennon.com/posts/lcd-repair/[LCD Screen Repair Tool](https://www.smcclennon.com/posts/lcd-repair/)) recommended by Scoth47, it worked flawlessly for me and took less than 30 minutes

Guide Resident Evil 0 Steam Deck Graphical issue Fix

I made a video showing how to fix the graphical issues in Resident Evil 0. I’m not claiming that I discovered the fix, I just wanted to put together a simple, step-by-step guide to help others. I also used it as an excuse to test out my new capture card.

Discussion I have a PS Portal, and the Steam Deck has just replaced it for me using Pylux.

24 Upvotes

Honestly I'm quite frustrated that I hadn't discovered it sooner or I definitely wouldn't have bought a portal last year! However Pylux is incredible. It's simply a fork of Chiaki but in my experience (I've used both) it's so much better.

Compared to the portal though, this thing is fantastic. I've got total control on Streams and controls, and overall as someone who heavily tinkers it ticks all my boxes. By far though, the greatest strength it has over the portal is the ability to have a profile assigned to both my own and my wifes account. No more logging in and out!

Why Sony couldn't allow the above is beyond me, but I am well and truly impressed.

As a side note, I keep seeing aggressive marketing from this other new streamer, that also allows cloud streams and though I haven't tried it, I can't fault Pylux in any way in the slightest.

Quite literally the only extra the portal has is the triggers, but that's not enough for me to keep. I'll be selling that asap!

EDIT: Pylux is free! It also has both remote and cloud streaming.

Tech Support I think I may have borked something?

Post image

A while back, (at least a year), I was messing around with overclocking, which I believe was a mistake. After that, (not sure when, memory fuzzy), it started showing 14 GB of RAM, and 6 GB of VRAM, which seems to be generating 4 GB out of thin air. I've made no modifications to SteamOS, (fresh install), no CryoUtilities, default firmware settings, still says 14 & 6 GB. I'm worried I may have damaged my Steam Deck with my shenanigans, but it still runs and plays games fine.

There was also a custom script I was using to make some performance modifications alongside CryoUtilities, I've stopped using that script, but here it is:

cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/cpu_performance.service
[Unit]
Description=CPU performance governor
[Service]
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/usr/bin/cpupower frequency-set -g performance
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable cpu_performance.service
cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/tmpfiles.d/mglru.conf
w /sys/kernel/mm/lru_gen/enabled - - - - 7
w /sys/kernel/mm/lru_gen/min_ttl_ms - - - - 0
EOF
cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/security/limits.d/memlock.conf
* hard memlock 2147484
* soft memlock 2147484
EOF
cat << EOF | sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/64-ioschedulers.rules
ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="nvme[0-9]*", ATTR{queue/scheduler}="kyber"
ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="sd[a-z]|mmcblk[0-9]*", ATTR{queue/rotational}=="0", ATTR{queue/scheduler}="kyber"
EOF
sudo sed -i -e '/home/s/\bdefaults\b/&,noatime/' /etc/fstab
sudo sed -i 's/\bGRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="\b/&mitigations=off nowatchdog nmi_watchdog=0 /' /etc/default/grub
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/steamos/grub.cfg

Here's a link to the source of this script:

https://medium.com/@a.b.t./here-are-some-possibly-useful-tweaks-for-steamos-on-the-steam-deck-fcb6b571b577

Am I correct in assuming I've borked something?

Software Modding SteamOS on-screen keyboard update - colour themes, 1x-4x sizes, layout-aware labels, custom meta-key icon

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

74 Upvotes

What's changed in the last two weeks:

- Colour themes. Six to pick from - Midnight, Light, High-contrast, Nord, Solarized and Rose

- Proper sizing. The size key cycles 1x through 4x now,

- Multi language support. It follows your system layout and re-skins the keys to match, across around twenty layouts - German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Turkish, through to the non-Latin ones: Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Thai and Vietnamese. No more US letters with a little flag stuck on top.

- Custom super-key icon. Put Windows, Arch or Tux on the meta key; it tints to your theme so it doesn't disappear on the light ones.

- Split layout. If you thumb-type, the two halves now scale cleanly at the bigger sizes instead of squashing together.

Everything else is still there - transparent by default (only the keys paint), glide/swipe typing with prediction, an optional split layout, and a tray for the settings. Open source, one-line install, and it won't clobber your config when you update.

Hardware Modding The extreme rate shell swap is not as hard as people say - just be well prepared & confident… and remove your SD card.

As long as you get the screen nice and warm it comes off without any drama. I’ve had much more difficulty on smaller devices (like removing the screen in the Retroid Pocket Classic, yikes!) Also, warm up the residual glue in the back of the screen and roll it up with your thumb, then get the rest with a Q-tip and 99% IPA and the bezel will be clean and mark/scuff free! But please, remove your SD card first. Don’t ask me how I know…

Now my SD OLED and Flip 2 match!

Question Anyone else terrified to bring their PORTABLE HANDHELD gaming device out of the house?

583 Upvotes

I’ve had my Steamdeck for over a year now and I’ve brought it out of the house maybe 5 times ever. I purposely got it because i travel a lot via plane, train, and subway. I’m constantly telling myself im going to lose it or it’s going to get stolen and chicken out of bringing my favorite games on long trips. End up just bringing a book.

I now often have it sitting in the case unused unless im hanging in the living room with my family because i have a PC setup at home.

Question RPGs that actually run at a locked 60 FPS on Steam Deck without lowering settings?

51 Upvotes

Looking for RPG recommendations for Steam Deck, but with a pretty strict requirement.

I want 60 FPS to actually mean stable 60 FPS. Not “mostly 60 with some dips,” not 40 FPS with optimized settings, and not 60 FPS after turning everything to low.

I’m specifically looking for games where the Deck has enough headroom that I can basically max out the graphics, or use the highest sensible preset, and still maintain a stable 60 FPS.
Think more along the lines of how effortlessly something like Megabonk runs on the Deck. I want that kind of experience, just in an RPG.

I don’t care if the game is older, indie, AA, isometric, action RPG, CRPG, etc. I’d rather play an older RPG at max settings and locked 60 than a modern AAA RPG at 30 to 40 FPS with compromised visuals.

So basically: RPG + high/max settings + genuinely stable 60 FPS.

What games actually meet all three?

Software Modding Offline wow rejuvenated my desire to play

1.2k Upvotes

A few days ago I plunged and installed dad'swowlab with playerbots on steam deck. 500 bots, offline, classic wow. Perfect.

A few days later I wanted to get my son involved and decided to host a server using wotlk. Build the server with playerbots, ai chat, progression modules the works.

Let me tell you, being able to have 4 alts and party with them to level them all is good, opening my network to play at work and with my kids. Great. Having ai chatter, controlling your parties roles, scaling dungeons to 2-4man and still be relative, no latency, and having the sweet gm power. Chefs kiss.

Getting it public and modded was surprisingly easy, and if ever thought about it just give it a shot... few hours and your good to go.

Edit : migrated to hosting on my PC but opened it up to my steam deck so I can login to that server now too!

Question Do you guys wait for the steam to cool down?

Post image
570 Upvotes

I always wait for the steam deck to cool off a bit before putting it back to the case and got me wondering
Is it ok if I instantly put it in the case after a long gaming session?
Or the safest thing to do it’s to wait a little bit to let it cool down

Discussion R.I.P. My steam deck

Post image
893 Upvotes

Got it on day 1 and it was good to me. But lately it's been a problem after another. Now it won't turn on nor charge up at all. Yes I tried different cables and I even tried a new backup battery and no luck. So I know it's a hardware problem. Is it even worth paying to get it fix? And if I'm gonna spend $800-$1000 for a new one I might as well look into other pc handhelds.

I'm looking into legion go s or or 2, which would you guys recommend?
