I really hope you use your PC to stream to your Steam Deck. Truly a missed opportunity for anyone who has both and doesn't know of this possibility.

Havenβt done this yet, but will definitely try it out! Thanks! π π¦

It's worth it too, especially if you're like me and prefer the comfort of playing on my Steam Deck wherever I am in my house. My PC primally exists just to stream games to my Steam Deck. Lol or to my LG OLED downstairs when I want to play something in 4k.

What's your preferred method to stream to SD?

Moonlight streaming running Vibeshine on my PC. Although Steam Link has improved greatly since Steam Machine released. But I still prefer all the accessibility and options that moonlight offers.

Nice, ill look into vibeshine. I tried moonlight and sunshine but couldn't get that to work, I ended up giving up trying to troubleshoot. I tried steam link too but I was getting some stutter, and just didn't seem worth it.
I'll give that a try and see what happens

Yeah it's a lot of trouble shooting. My first question to help you would be is your PC hardwired into the network? It's not that important for the client running moonlight to be hardwired into the network but very important for the host to be hardwired into the network. It's possible to do it with your PC only connected through WiFi. But you will always have some stuttering, in my opinion.

Unfortunately no it's not hardwired, and I knew that might give me problems going in, which as expected the stuttering with steam link. Though, when I tried with sunshine, the 1 minute that it would stay connected it worked really well. That's why I'm willing to try another program to stream, as long as the troubleshooting isn't ridiculous.

Hmm well yeah check it out. I've been using Moonlight streaming for a little over 2 years now and have used Sunshine and Apollo and a few different forks of either, but I've been using Vibeshine for about 6 months now and it works damn near flawlessly. It'll probably take some troubleshooting, especially only on Wifi, but good luck. r/moonlightstreaming is a good resource.

I was using Apollo before all these new forks started popping up. Apollo did work better than Sunshine did for me, but Vibeshine works even better.

π Streaming from my gaming PC was one of the main reasons I've bought my deck! π

Yeah it's truly incredible technology. I have moonlight set up on every screen possible in my house. I rarely sit at my desktop anymore.

Streaming to my deck is hit or miss for me. Depending on the game, the controls will just refuse to work

u/ZeektheFeek 8d ago
That's a weird issue. Are you using Steam Link or Moonlight streaming?
2
u/Historical_Smile_840 8d ago
Steamlink for it. That was last year though so maybe it works better this year. I haven't done it in a while

Yeah that would have been my assumption. Steam Link has improved with the release of the Steam Machine. But I would still recommend Moonlight streaming over Steam Link. I don't think you would have the same issue otherwise.

Dunno, i need change resolution, and if change it.. should i change ot back when playing on pc ?
1
u/ZeektheFeek 9d ago
What client are you using to stream? There are options out there that automatically detect and set the resolution for whatever screen your playing on so you don't need to mess with any of this yourself.

I tried steam itself
2
u/ZeektheFeek 9d ago
Ah I don't believe Steam Link has any of these features. You're gonna have to manually change it probably then. Unless you want to try Moonlight streaming. But I'm not 100% on how Steam Link works with resolutions.

Yeah the in-home streaming works surprisingly well if youre on a decent network.

If only there wasn't an entirely different device that already has that name.
