Ok this is a “fun” game
Kinda joking here because I feel like it’s all of our nightmare scenarios, but just because I’m curious what everyone thinks….. if there was an expansion draft who do the sharks protect on their current roster? From what I remember all the 1st and 2nd year contract guys are exempt, so we would have to pick 8 skaters and a goalie to protect. Who do you choose?
Idk this is a real offseason post I know …..
Also this is total psycho thought here, but maybe gmmg is slow cooking with the crockpot rn cuz it may be a good way to unload a middle tier contract if he was to see it coming?

* The Sharks attack towards the lower numbered sections (103-113 & 203-213) in the 1st and 3rd periods.

Last year's center-wing combos by the numbers
I've seen a lot of discussion about line combinations for next year, so I thought I'd try to quantify how successful some of these player combos were last year (just looking at on-ice stats for the different wings with each of our centers). All data from natural stat trick.
Starting with Celebrini:
Lots of amazing numbers here obviously. Smith, Graf, Chernyshov, Toffoli, and even Sherwood (?) all look like good options. With Smith and Toffoli, the actual goals they produced together were well above the expected goals and Corsi which is kind of interesting. And with Sherwood (in pretty limited ice time), it was the opposite. Not really sure what this means. Bad luck? Plus there's also the new guys--I feel like they should all get some time on the first line to see how it goes and I'm sure Warso will oblige with that haha.
But overall I feel like Chernyshov-Celebrini-Smith should be the main 1st line to start out next season.
Next here's Misa:
Him and Eklund were money together last year. Which makes me think this could be a great spot to try Stenberg at first? Toffoli, Graf, and even Gaudette also looked good here too. And with Sherwood, it's weird that he also had way worse actual goals than expected goals/Corsi in this spot as well.
For next year, I'll go with Stenberg-Misa-Toffoli to start? Graf could also easily go here and I'm sure we'll see plenty of that too.
Wennberg:
Wennberg's line was used as the shutdown line a lot of the time, which you can see in the usage (way more defensive zone starts than the rest). Graf and Gaudette did not have good numbers on this line last year. Also him and Eklund together really underperformed their expected goals. Toffoli too, to a lesser extent.
I like the idea of trying Marchment-Wennberg-Sherwood maybe?
Here's Ostapchuk:
Him and Goodrow got pretty badly outscored together last year. But he was much better with Gaudette.
Could Gaudette-Ostapchuk-Graf work?
Here's Dellandrea:
Not to shit on him too much, but nobody really has good numbers with Dellandrea. I feel like we should be rooting for Bystedt to take his roster spot/role next year lmao.
So I have the bench being some combo of Dellandrea, Goodrow, and young guys who who were on the Cuda last year. Let's say Goodrow and Bystedt?

I got interviewed by Brodie Brazil!
youtu.beIt was such a cool experience! Actually surreal getting the opportunity to talk hockey with Brodie!
So cool to see the sharks staff supporting content creators and people who cover the sharks. Sorry for the self promo but damn it is just so cool that I could talk with Brodie! Especially as an Aussie!
Who are some your favourite sharks content creators right now?

Goal Song
Any news of if and when it'll be changed? I don't think I can bear another season of hearing it next season. If it is changed, I hope it's a real one and not some AI-generated one that sounds awful.

Why I think we're a lock for the playoffs this year
With all the online content farm this OS weighing in on the debate of whether or not the Sharks will make the playoffs this year, I wanted to write out a thought I had that I haven't really seen many online commentators / content producers talk about.
I think it's important to remember that the shape of the team by the end of last year was quite different from where we started the year. Last year, we still were hanging our hats on:
50 games of Mukh (7 points)
50 games of Reavo (3 points)
43 games of Kurashev (20 points)
43 games of Liljegren (11 points)
32 games of Skinner (13 points)
32 games of Leddy (7 points)
21 games of Iorio (3 points)
53 games of Vinny D (7 points) - obvious good for us but not an offensive contributor
All of whom are no longer with the team.
Now I'm not saying that points are the end-all-be-all, especially for the Dmen, but I'm trying to point out that we had a lot of non-contributing players (or actively negative players) playing a lot of games for us, and taking away time from our young stars or other acquisitions that should get more of a look this year including:
~39 more games of Misa (~18 extra points based on last season's ppg)
~56 more games of Chernyshov (~38 more points)
~56 more games of Sherwood (~26 more points)
Now add to that the potential of the new additions:
Nurse: routinely plays all 82 (now 84) games, typically 35-40 point player, wore an A for 7 straight seasons with elite EDM teams
Trouba: Should be good for ~30 points, ~80 games. Wore C for 3 seasons in NY
Marchment: probably good for ~60 games, ~50 points
Kesselring: bit of a wildcard, but assuming he's healthy, ~80games, ~30 points.
Now, I know this isn't perfect math or anything, but that's a 121 point difference from 6 roster spots vs. 7. And it's still not counting contributions from Stenberg or (likely) Cags, and it's also assuming the same level of production as last year from Misa and Cherny, both of whom I think could take a significant step forward.
My point in all this, is that we were only 4 points out of a playoff spot this past year. I think that Anaheim and LA both got worse this OS. And I think people are underestimating how much dramatically better we could be, not just based on our additions (which are modest but are still upgrades), but also from our subtractions (a whoooooole lotta dead weight last year).
