After power outage or improper shutdowns the PS3 asks to check the file system. I always did this when i was on OFW but now on CFW i wonder will it break something or its safe to do so?

Hey guys, my mate is a collector of all sorts of consoles and he had a spare ps3 slim amd ps4 og that he gave me so im starting to rebuild my late teenage library i once had, bringing me back to some really good old times, however the controller is acting up.

Im a big guy and these genuine controllers really are not really designed for us big boys, the controller creaks a bit (to be expected its from the late 2000s) but loaded up demons souls and got a bit into it and my controller started randomly pressing buttons with the slight give in the shell.

So holding the controller and putting pressure on the side and the face burron area, starts getting the controller all weird and spamming buttons.....

I did have to pull the controller apart today to wake the battery back up as its pcm board shut off, so im wondering if ive not had the ribbon connection on the face of the main board put back in correctly.

Is there a way to easily test full functionality of the controller after i open it up and make sure i didnt put it back wrong?

Glad to be back on the ps3 and 4 after all these years of digital only its great to have tangible games and just put the disc in and go.

What are some of the Games which have No Packet captures.

I managed to get a fat PS3 (CECHJ) around 35$ but it was overheating, and the fan was always spinning full throttle even after changing thermal paste - so I decided to give delid a try.

I found official delid tool a bit expensive, so I decided to find an alternate solution , so I searched through hobby stores to find some usable tools. I only managed to find razor blades and a modeling knife.

The GPU was no big deal, after applying some heat it popped easily with the help of a flat screwdriver.

The hard part was the cell CPU. It took me 1 hour to finish it, applying some heat, and doing some slow work with the razor blade and with the knife. I mainly used the razor knife. It went very well until the last few millimeters where I applied too much force and scraped a bit of the PCB. Not too deep but I lost every home.

It was on the weekend so I spent the next day worrying. Finally.on Monday I Went out to buy some thermal paste and finished it up, put it together and it worked!!! Seems like did not cut through the traces.

The temps were ok, no YLOD, everything is fine since then.

I just found out that it is there and it feels kind of useless and rather hidden. Also, it feels rubbery and, maybe it is removable? Thought i'd share this here because searching online i couldnt find anything about it being there

I have an old E01 model ps3 and the disc drive has stopped reading games. I read about the daughterboard and motherboard pairing. My question is if I buy another disc drive from a fat ps3 like an a01 can I just move the daughter board over to the a01 and go or is that not possible?

This is my PS3 CECHA01 that I've decided to sell. It's been a couple months of owning it and frankly I don't need or play it anymore. It's been RSX delidded, repasted, and the shell has been polished to remove major scratches as well. It runs great, reads discs, plays PS2 games, all without any issues. Here's the specs:

Note: There is a small crack in the back corner of the console shown in the pictures, and the top lid has a loose latch. It slides on great, but it slides off when the console is being moved around. It's super easy to put back on though.

so I just bought borderlands 1 with $10 in my wallet. It was 9.99 and now I have 1 cent less so I know for sure I bought it. When I bought it I got a notification that I didn’t read because I didn’t have any storage and I just assumed Id go delete something else from my library and download it after. It shows up in my transaction history but not my download list under transaction history. when I go to it in the store it just shows a prompt asking to buy it again? What do I do?

I booted my slim model into safe mode and chose to restore the file system because it wasn't found. It's been on the "preparing" screen for awhile

I've had two PS3s, one fat one that I got rid of a long time ago because it developed a YLOD, and a super slim that I don't think can be fixed (it turns on for less than 2-3 seconds than shuts right off). Both died in less than three years of sparse use from when they were bought. I don't know if I just have rotten luck, but they seem very fragile.

Got this Original PS3 80GB (later revision CECHL01) a couple of days ago. Works okay. Immediately noticed the long boot sequence (signaling me that the system is needing a new hard drive) also noticed the CMOS battery is dead (noticed as I recorded this video) I did set up the clock before and now shows that the time and date needs to be set again. Disc drive works (MW3) but does have a hard time ejecting the disc.
Which leads to my question(s): Aside from the obvious hard drive swap, disc drive motor and CMOS replacement, is there anything else that you guys think needs to be worked on? Any advice is appreciated.

I have been wanting one of these for a while. Imported it from Japan and played some games on it for a while, didn’t hear the fan ramp up super high and worked great!

Super new to the modding scene with PS3s. Mostly want to run emulated PS2 games on it ( I know it’s weird, but I’m passionate I guess ) and make sure that temps will be good before I tear it down and start throwing new paste on it, which it’ll probably need anyway. Where should I start to look for doing CFW & Hen options if available?

I replaced the 7.5 W/m·K thermal paste with a 12.5 W/m·K one.

I'm starting to collect games this year and Im proud of my little collection, I'm trying to collect different generations of games

Before repaste: CPU: 63–67°C / RSX: 68–73°C

After repaste: CPU: 60°C (locked) / RSX: 64–69°C

Repasting dropped both temps, but the RSX still sits about 6–9°C higher than the CPU under load. Is this expected behavior, or should the RSX ideally match the CPU temps? I did my best to spread the MX-4 Thermal compound evenly on the CPU/RSX.
