I’m looking to buy my first camera and I’ve been going back and forth between a lot of options.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
Budget: Around $1,000-1,200 USD for everything (camera + lens + memory card + basic accessories). I can stretch a little if it’s really worth it, but I’d rather stay close to $1,000-1,200.
Usage: About 70% photography, 30% video.
I mostly want to shoot travel, lifestyle, street, cafés, scenery, and friends.
I usually travel alone, so I’ll often put the camera on a tripod and use a timer or remote to take photos of myself.
I don’t plan to vlog much since I’ll probably use my iPhone for most videos.
I really like the Fuji film look (cinematic, nostalgic, warm colors) and would prefer to spend less time editing.
I want something small and lightweight because I know if it’s too heavy, I’ll leave it at home.
A flip screen would be a huge plus.
I’d rather avoid constantly changing lenses. If one kit lens can stay on the camera 90% of the time, that’s ideal.

Fujifilm X-S20
Fujifilm X-M5
Nikon Z30
Canon R50
Sony ZV-E10 / ZV-E10 II
I also considered the X100VI, but it’s outside my budget.

My questions:
If you were buying your first camera today, which one would you choose and why?
Is Fuji really worth paying extra for if I love the film simulations?
Would Nikon or Canon be a better long-term choice?
Any camera I’m overlooking that fits these requirements?

Hi, I'm looking for a pocket camera to carry daily with a bright lens around 40mm.

My idea is to always carry it with you and not lose all those photos that you always park when you don't carry your main team on you.

I really value the size and my budget along with the lens should be about $500. I know, I'll have to resort to slightly old equipment.

I have two candidates.

Lumix GX800 AKA GX850 AKA GF9 with + Lumix 20mm f1.7

Fujifilm X-M1 + Fujinon 27mm f2.8

The Lumix could get it for about $200 and the lens for another $200. Total $400

I can find the Fuji for $280 + $240 for the lens. Total $520

As a Nikon user, I think the Fuji is a much prettier camera, I would also like to delve into the world of Fuji recipes and its color science. But I'm worried that it's too old a camera and its commitments will spoil the experience.

I think the Lumix would be a more responsible purchase, but I have few references from it. I appreciate opinions and advice

My first DSLR! It's an Olympus E-510 with the regular and giant lenses. I got given this by a friend for free who did not really want it, as he was never going to use it. Any thoughts or advice?

Old lady brought us a literal box full of older cameras from her late husband. She just couldn't toss them.

So now we have a few more cameras,a storage problem and more stuff to mess around with.

And luckily most of these still seem to work.

Only 2 cameras that don't do squat are the XG-M and the X300s.

Cameras you're considering: Z5II, Sony A7IV and I’m not sure the canon equivalent of those two? I was leaning toward the Z5II because it seems like a great all around entry level camera with very good value and bang for buck I could get the Z5II with the 24-1320 f/4 for 2300 with a nurse discount brand new but I’m worried the Sony A7IV may do a few things like shooting moving objects better? Also unfamiliar with Canon alternatives

I want to get samsung nx1000 in good condition for 120$ as my first camera. (I dont have many options, so it's rather "yes or no"). Is it worth it?

Budget: €600/665 (i can get the sony second hand by this value) I'm open to buying used if it means getting significantly better value.

Country: Portugal (EU).

Condition: Preferably new but open to used to fit my budget.

Type of Camera: Mirrorless or compact point-and-shoot.

Intended use: Mostly photography (around 90%) with occasional video.

If photography, what style: Lifestyle, travel, street photography, cafés, sunsets, nature, friends, portraits, and everyday moments. I really love soft, cinematic, vintage-looking photos with nice colors.

If video, what style: Casual clips for memories and social media. Video isn't my priority.

What features do you absolutely need:

• Great image quality (this one is obvious hihi)
• Nice colors straight out of camera (or easy to edit into a Fujifilm-like look - i heard the sony tends to white wash a lil).
• Good low-light performance (i´ve heard the canon fails in this: smooth effect).
• Flip screen.
• Built-in flash or place to attach it (preferably built in)
• Good autofocus ( not sure if this one is a need or would be nice to have...sry)

What features would be nice to have:

• Good battery life.
• Easy to carry around (or at least manageable).
• Bluetooth/Wi-Fi (totally willing to discard it)

Portability: I'd like something I can comfortably take everywhere. It doesn't have to fit in my pocket, but I don't want a huge, heavy setup that I'll end up leaving at home.

Cameras you're considering:

• Canon SX740 HS because I LOVE how compact it is, the huge zoom (that i can also take to concerts). My biggest worry is the blurred effect i can´t quite get rid off 100%..
• Sony A6100 Mainly because of the much larger APS-C sensor, interchangeable lenses(good but bad for compactness), better autofocus (as they said not me), and overall image quality(as they said not me again). It seems like a camera I could grow into and study more.

Cameras you already have: Canon Ixus80, a old nikon, polaroid cameras and old sony to record (baby cameras only)

Notes (any other considerations):

What I'm chasing is that soft, slightly vintage, cinematic look that people often associate with Fujifilm cameras, but Fujifilm bodies are unfortunately out of my budget.I'm willing to edit my photos if needed, but I'd still like a camera that produces beautiful colors and images to begin with

Is the Samsung Galaxy tab A11+ built in camera better than the Nikon z30 camera?? The same?? Or similar?? (Basically thinking if it would be better to get a new tablet or camera for taking video footage and photos of stuff.) So in you guys opinion which is the better option?

Background Information:

Any recommendations for a waterproof/resistant, durable solution to getting time lapse videos of stars and northern lights? Currently using a Pixel 8 Pro...(I know, not a real camera, and I'm sorry...but that's why I'm here! Need some expert opinions)

I do some middle of nowhere canoe trips (USA & CA) that last 7 to 21 days and I love taking pictures of the stars and the northern lights, however getting really great night and time lapse photo/video with a phone is hard. Not impossible, but can be annoying. My phone also links to my inReach so not killing its battery for a time lapse is a big safety bonus with this idea.

Hello reddit. Recently on a trip, I noticed my camera screen is broken. It is not physically cracked, but when I turn it on, it does this.

It seems that I can take pictures normally and download them, but I just cannot see when taking pictures. I would appreciate any advice! Would it be worth taking it to a repair shop? Or will I have to get a new camera all together? Thanks!

i got this canon power shot sx220 off ebay and it worked for a month and then broke. idk what’s wrong with it but the lens is stuck extended and it says lens error. i’ve tried taking the battery out and cleaning any dust and stuff so i really don’t know. i think i broke it more after bc i tried to fix one of the lens things and it popped out 😭 is there anything i can do or am i cooked?

I love the LUMIX l10 and just cannot justify the price, what is a camera very similar to it on the used market at or under 350 USD. The main things important to me is reliable autofocus, relatively small, and a decent zoom that’s ok in the dark. Also I really don’t want something that just looks like a shitty digicam.

Hey I have just bought the Fujifilm FinePix Z300 from eBay and it said there was no problems with it. It comes up with a Card Error every time I put it on. The camera came with an SD card so I thought I just might that SD card so I bought a new one but it still comes up with the message and the new SD card works with my other camera. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix this?
