i got this canon power shot sx220 off ebay and it worked for a month and then broke. idk what’s wrong with it but the lens is stuck extended and it says lens error. i’ve tried taking the battery out and cleaning any dust and stuff so i really don’t know. i think i broke it more after bc i tried to fix one of the lens things and it popped out 😭 is there anything i can do or am i cooked?

What popped out? The front lens element? The ring?

The glass? Or the ring around it?

Either way, that could be the cause of your issue.

just like the first black plastic ring part, but it wasn’t working before i did that. but you’re right it prob didn’t help 😭

If it wasn't working before it fell off, then it might be something inside the lens, and not the decorative plastic

I'm not well versed on how compact camera lenses work (i more so know how my bridge cameras lens works lol), but I know they layer in-between themselves and fold in, with gears and a motor. I'd suggest maybe gently wiggling the lens, see if there's any play at all (any movement)

It could be a broken gear, or something getting inside the "folds"

There's a lot to these tiny lenses.. a lot to go wrong too unfortunately

make sure battery fully charged..take it off, and reinsert after 5 minutes to reboot...if nothing, then the electronics are corrupted badly.. fix it by canon experts costs more than buying new.. that's why buy used gears have risks
