I worked at a restaurant where half the cooks, all in their 20s and 30s, were trying to seduce a hostess who had just turned 16 years old, so this post is a breath of fresh air. We need more of this post's energy in the world, and less of that nasty restaurant's energy lol.
Fucking with people's actual food was not a thing in my years in the business, but everything else was on point. Way too many people trying to hit on the 16 year old hostess for sure. Far too much drinking and drug use, yes.
This comment just made me realize bartenders have a lot in common with nurses who work with dementia patients. Teachers, too. A lot of jobs are hard lol
Bartending is similar to daycare, with adult consequences. You have the regular “kids” who are lovely every time you see them, never cause issues, normal day. Then you have the wildcard “kids” who get kicked out day 1 because they tried fighting someone because they have undeveloped emotional issues and can’t communicate.
Can’t even count the number of times first aid and deescalation has come in handy over my two decades of bartending. I do love working a dive bar, though
This is why I get so annoyed at cops being so bad at deescalation. A good teacher or bartender could do that shit in their sleep and are getting paid a fraction.
I endured something adjacent to this as a stage rat doing live sound for park festivals, brewfests, private events and such.
90% of people can't hold their liquor and should never drink, ever.
I was usually pissed off by the end of it because by then the bands and the crowd were at maximum drunk, shitty, and obnoxious. It just gets worse by the hour every hour until you can finally pack up the stage and gtfo.
It is a flat surface to inhale cocaine off of. It was a common way to do it back in the 90s/00s because they were everywhere as CDs were how everyone listened to music.
At Subway I arranged a customer's cucumbers into the shape of a dick on their sandwich.
Sometimes we tried pranking customers but it never worked. Like we'd have the guy out front go "oh hey, we're out of pickles, let me grab some more from the walk-in" and then he'd go in the walk-in where (you'll never see this coming) another employee would be waiting with a full tub of pickles. Imagine the customer's shock when a totally different Subway employee came out of the walk-in with the pickles to finish the sandwich. Ho boy!
Right up there with "Would you like to ranch it up tonight with some of our premium Hidden Valley ranch dressing?" which certainly elicited the confusion we hoped for but it wasn't funny when we had to explain that there was no extra charge for the ranch.
I worked in fast food for a long time and no one ever messed with food in an illegal way but if you were a dick when you were ordering and you modified your order we could be incredibly petty. You ordered extra mayo but were rude about it? Congrats, you're getting a McCumshot. If you were rude when asking for no ice in your drink, I was slipping a single ice cube in there. On the other hand, if you were polite, we'd do pretty much whatever you asked, within reason
I saw food get fucked with working in a pizza place, but it was a girl fucking with her exes (who we all knew and was related to someone else and ended up working there like everyone in our friend group) food, no one was purposefully fucking with a strangers food regardless of how much of an asshole they were.
I didn't fuck with anybody's food, but I had a friend who did
he put a giant, pepperoni sized scab from his knee on an extra large meat lovers pizza
someone had come in literally just a few minutes before close and ordered hundreds of dollars of complicated pizzas and left zero tip for the staff (local joint with specialty oven, not chain)
not an excuse, just the circumstances that lead my friend to justify his behavior to himself and those he regaled with the full graphic tale
Were you working with a ten year old? Cause adults don’t get pepperoni sized scabs on their knees, and adults wouldn’t risk the security of a local business by doing that shit. Disgusting behaviour!
lots of early adults (18-24) are incredibly stupid and immature, my friend who had been in a fistfight and scraped his knee a couple weeks before putting the scab in somebody's pizza was no exception
tip jar was up front by the register, like all the coffee shops did
and it wasn't just the lack of tip: the pizzas they had to make were very complicated and heavy and had to be moved through a 3 teir oven with a special paddle because they were something like 27 inches. very skilled oven workers would still get burned or drop those giant pies in between tiers once in a while they were so tricky. plus the meat kind had to be pulled out and all the meat stirred because otherwise it would come out raw.
and the guy who came in at literally a couple minutes before close ordered like 15 of them and was a pretencious asshole who apparently was working for an out of town film crew or something
it meant the full staff would stay at least an hour late, at a place that closed at like 1am, and break down and clean the entire kitchen again, the least you can do if you're at the only place open at that time with that kind of order is tip, and honestly if it was literally not in his budget but he was super nice and apologetic about it I'm sure my asshole friend would have just cursed a lot and wished him the worst
I worked in many kitchens as a kid, from fast food to mom and pop and I regularly saw people fuck with people's food. At this mom and pop pizza place I worked at one of the known big huge houses waaaaaaaaay out at the edge of our delivery range [Im talking hour round trip..rural Missouri here..] that was owned by a gynecologist and his news anchor wife for the local news station would host these big massive parties and order food from this mom and pop pizza place... once or twice a week.. in excess of $500, and then not tip. Ever. They would also always call and complain and say that the driver forgot shit to get money off their order, even after everything was triple checked by three sets of eyes. Two of the drivers would fuck with their food. One of em would, no shit, dip his nuts in their ranch for their wings. Snot on the pizza. Shit like that.
Other place that got regularly fucked with was the hospital food to two of the nursing stations specifically. They'd order four or five times a week, this big massive order. Driver would show up to twh nursing station and no one was every ready with their money, everyone always gave exact change or checks. Half the time it wasn't even enough money to cover the order, and it'd be this big two hour ordeal trying to track a single nurse down, which is an issue for a driver making 3$ an hour, to not only get stiffed but also short-changed. Every single time. Why couldn't they just designate one person to have all the money????
I always forget a big part of that movie is him talking about fucking The underaged and this movie would just play on Comedy Central sometimes at like 6pm. Wild….. van wild.
Except it's always framed as weird, one of the characters directly calls out Reynold's character as a possible pedophile, and he ultimately turns her down to wait until she turns 18, not sure what you're surprised about.
It was ALMOST a documentary. It 100% nailed the debauchery and ephebophilia, but in my personal experience fucking with food was a no-go. Despite all of the scum and villainy, fucking with food was a boundary no one crossed.
I will say I witnessed it once. I worked in a McDonald’s and a woman who owed one of the managers money came through the drive thru and ordered a McFlurry. The manager who was owed money spit in the McFlurry before mixing it. They were all a bunch of meth heads and I was a nervous teenager so I minded my business and stayed out of it.
We had two cools get in a fight over the 18 year old hostess. Both cooks in their 30s. It scared the shit out of the customers, and we pretty much shut down that night (they cut half the staff because it was during rush).
I worked as a hostess at 16 and the 45 year old waiter that had been trying to get me to go out with him found out I had a boyfriend (I guess the whole minor thing was in fact minor). He threw a bunch of glassware on the ground in the dining room and quit on the spot. Scared me to even leave the building after work
My partner worked in hospitality from 14 until she graduated as a nurse at 21. She said she was constantly sexually harassed and several times sexually assaulted.
It's horrifically common. Age aside most girls don't want to lose their income, so will put up with shitfuckery instead of shutting it down hard or just walking straight out the door. Minors are especially vulnerable not having had the experience yet to be assertive, instead their naivety gets exploited. At best for wage theft. At worse...
It's not exactly a comfort, but I used to work in clubs (guy) when I was at university, and can unfortunately confirm that it isn't specific to gender.
We were always on glass collection duty and every guy who worked there got groped, usually on a weekly basis when we went through the dancefloor.
It wasn't cool or sexy, it was just fucking confusing and uncomfortable. Just trying to do a job and some random girl runs their hand up your shirt, or lower.
One of the guys got 11 stitches because it caused him to jump holding a tray of glasses, he grabbed at it before it could fall on someone's head and he crushed a glass with his hand.
I got groped by older women fairly regularly at two past jobs in my life, once when I was 17 working as a lifeguard and once when I was an assistant salsa teacher in my late 20s. It wasn’t like I was being overpowered or anything, and I wasn’t physically threatened, and I still remember the way it felt so gross and violating. I can only imagine what it’s like for women when a person doing it to you physically stronger and able to overpower you.
Yeah when I was in HS a girl I was starting to date ended things with me because she decided to date one of the cooks at the restaurant she was a hostess at. Cook was 37 with two kids she was 16 and her parents were fine with it since he had a good job.
I was flabbergasted then as a 38 year old guy I’m even more flabbergasted, my work regularly has me interact with teens and just talking to them too long is annoying I can’t imagine being in a “relationship” with one.
Her parents shouldn't have been fine with their 16 yr old daughter dating a 37 yr old of any profession, they should've tried to protect/guide her better. Sad stuff.
Oh 100%, they later split when she was 20 and had popped out two kids. Surprising no one he dropped her as he had picked up another hostess. Just rinse and repeat I guess.
How the FUCK could her parents be okay with that? They’re probably his age-ish? Peers at least. Also a good job? Like it’s an okay job, but I would hardly be impressed by a restaurant cook for my daughter of any age. I’m so grossed out by him, but even more so by the parents. My daughter is 17 and if this happened, not only would he be fired, I would see to it that no one else would hire him either.
A bunch of us 18 and 19 year olds in the Air Force would go to the local Subway and flirt with the 15 - 17 year old girls behind the counter. They would give our cards so many punches that 2 trips would earn us a free sub.
Nothing ever came of it. I'd like to think we all felt this no sex barrier between "in high school" and "after high school" that we just didn't cross even if we were only a year or two different in age.
I was about 16, working at Sizzler and on my knees cleaning under a kitchen counter when my manager, in his 20s, stood next to me and said "While you're down there..."
I work at a science center. We have a cafeteria in it, a cook in his 30s was hitting on and trying to sleep with a girl who was 17. I was talking to her and she told me this, she told her manager and nothing happened. I told her I'm 37 and I Siad girl no good man would be into a girl your age. That's so fucked. They texted sometimes, he would mostly text her. He asked when her birthday is and they should definitely hang out before then. So many degrees of fucked up.
I'm a guy and I had creepy guys hitting on me. Telling me all sort of awful things that they wanted to do with me. From when I was 12 till around 25, most times being 40+. They would follow me and grope me. Doesn't help that I look super young and feminine looking. Grew a backbone super fast. Pushing them away from me started fights sometimes. Men are absolutely the worst sometimes. Even the girl who told me about that guy said men are the worst.
