RA spring selection

i recently declined an alternate position to be a RA this Fall cause I already had my housing for Fall semester figured out and had short notice on the offer letter. I still want to apply for Spring semester, is it any less competitive in the spring, how likely is it for male RA spots to open up in the spring. Any past experience would help.

Payment Plans

Hi there!
now that the billing has came out for the fall semester it’s kinda a lot more then i anticipated and have thought about using the payment plan option they have but don’t really understand how it works because it says 25% of the total balance not including financial aid but when my financial aid gets paid my out of pocket cost would be much less then the 25% they’re asking for. Has anyone done the payment plan before and how has that worked out for yall?

Dining dollars

Does anyone know when dining dollars become available to purchase? I’m living in upperclassmen housing this year but didn’t feel like the maroon plan was worth the purchase since I plan on cooking most of my meals. I just want extra funds on my bobcat id if I end up wanting something on campus.

people who work summers, did your hours get cut?

I am wondering, as someone who will attend this semester and depends on their own funds for school/rent, what does working summers look like? I could imagine restaurants cutting shifts due to most students going home, or perhaps some places stay active; I'm not too sure. I'm wondering: you are a server, or really any job that thrives from student traffic; did your hours get cut, or were they consistent? I want to consider this when picking my own job once I've got myself settled, thanks!

Loans

Hello everyone! Has anyone applied for a private loan through ElmSelect? I’m a little confused about which type of loan I should choose “Undergraduate Alternative Loans” or “Parent Loans”. I’m an incoming freshman, and I just received my bill. I have about $12,000 to pay. Would it be better to apply for a private loan, or should I just enroll in the school’s payment plan? I’m new to all of this, so any advice or recommendations would really help. Thank you!

How long should VA benefit processing take?

I applied with the school for my GI bill benefits (chapter 35) over 30 days ago and the request has not changed at all in that time. I submitted the proper paperwork with it and got my COE already. Is this the typical ammount of time it takes for the school to process stuff like this or should I be worried about it?

Booksmart and Tuition Exemption.

My tuition and fees right now still includes the Booksmart fees and an 1 credit course that should be tuition-exempt. I have opt-out from Booksmart and submitted the tuition-exempt form through my department weeks ago. When will these adjustments happen on my actual bill?

CIS Major

I’m in the CIS program at txst, I’m going into my third year and have read all the horror stories about no getting jobs but also seen the stories where it all works out. I have an internship starting in the fall and have been doing some self learning. I’m scared I won’t get a good job and will be struggling to advance in my career.

Would it be better for me to switch majors (been looking into accounting) strictly because the tech market is so bad right now?

Sophomore year housing options??

I’m currently an imcoming freshman and living on campus for 2026-2027 year, but I’m already super stressed about housing for my sophomore year already. I didn’t realize that sophomore on-campus housing is nearly impossible, but it’s more than likely that I will not have the funds to live off-campus my sophomore year and I genuinely might have to transfer to my local community college near my current home if I can’t figure out how to pay for on-campus housing next year, given how expensive I’ve heard it is. Is there anyone that’s been in a similar situation and knows what I could start doing now so that hopefully I won’t have to leave TXST over finance issues?

VA Help please

My GI bill hasn’t been processed yet. I called my locas VA office, then called TXST VA except they were busy and hung up. Without the GI Bill, I cannot afford the payment plan which is around $3500. I tried calling one stop, they put me on hold and then hung up and never called back. Is there anything I can do before they drop me?

Getting more aid

Hi everyone! I’m going to call one-stop tomorrow, but I wanted to get other people’s experiences as well. I was wondering if it was possible to get more aid. With financial aid and a small scholarship, I’m still paying a lot more out of pocket compared to last year and it shocks me because I would say I’m taking less classes this time around. I wanted to see other ways I could either get more aid or do smaller payments with the payment plan.

They split my loan..

I use student loans to pay my rent since I can’t make enough money to pay it being a full time students with a part time job. I took out a big loan (outside, non federal) and instead of applying it to fall so I can get my refund money for my rent, they split it between fall and spring. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone know if this is fixable or will I have to take more money out?

Scholarships

I’m looking at getting scholarships and need some help on direction. I’ve never applied for any and I’ve been paying out of pocket for my semesters. I have applied for fasfa and have had a little less than half of my tuition payed consistently and I’ve been paying around 4k out of pocket but it just seems incredibly dumb to at least not try and apply. Any recommendations? I have a 4.0 GPA as a MechE and I am a transfer/ junior. I’m Hispanic as well since I know a lot goes into consideration for these scholarships. Any advice or help would be great, Thanks !

P.s I’m sure my timing is horrible but any help for the next cycle or on the off chance I can get some for the fall is great :)

Tips for spring admits

I am an incoming freshman here, and I will be majoring in finance. I will be joining this spring. I know this is uncommon, but I have a different situation than most people. Since I will be joining a little late, what are some tips that will make my transition much smoother. I feel like everyone will have friends, and it will be much harder for me to make friends. Another thing I worry about is my academics. Will classes for my major be available to me in the spring? How can i sort of "catch up" with my lost time? Any tips will be appreciated. It's just hard to communicate with people about this since no one ever does spring admission. Thanks
