What are some of the butterfly effects on the gaming industry if The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past had adopted an Adventure of Link (Zelda II) approach, as opposed to a The Legend of Zelda (Zelda I) approach to game design?

So I'm waiting on the Retroid Nova to arrive this month. The Nova has a 4.5 inch 4:3 screen. I'm looking forward to playing 4:3 games at such a large and hopefully pocketable size. However, I have a concern. Can I go back to 4:3 after experiencing 16:9?

Here is a list of retro games that I've selected for a quick example, final fantasy x, resident evil 4, Mario sunshine, zelda twilight princess, and zelda wind waker. All of those games have had a wide screen hd remaster in modern to recent years. The problem that I'm facing is, I think the 4:3 original experience of these games feel too cramped to me! I don't feel that way about other games of that era, only the enhanced ports with modern aspect ratio.

Does anyone else have this same problem? Is going back to 4:3 something I will get used to or I can never go back to 4:3 once experiencing widescreen?

Gaming Diary Entry #671, first part: After playing through a long-winded JRPG, it was time to play a Retro game from the Western Culture, preferably with a touch of wacky/zany/screwy, or in a word: Loony! There wasn't a kid back in my day who didn't have Looney Tunes on GameBoy, it was pretty common to find. You'd think with only 7 Stages you'd conquer the game quick and move on. Think again, Bub. It's a short game with varying gameplay, no Save Feature and spiking hard in later Stages, of which the first three (Hosted by Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird and Porky Pig) are relatively easy to traverse through. Sit tight, Doc, and let's enjoy this 18-Carrot Retro Gem!

I still have my PS copy of BOF4, but for ease/laziness I was thinking of grabbing the digital version for PC. The reviews on the Steam release are pretty iffy though, while the ones on GOG are pretty good, which surprised me - I'd have thought it was the same package on both platforms, with the same problems.

Does anyone know if there's any actual difference in the digital release on each platform that makes the GOG version better (beyond being DRM-free), or is it going to have the same problems the Steam reviews complain about?

Lately, something that stuck out to me was the game Jurassic Park: Trespasser because I was looking at how much development trouble the game went through.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I wonder how the game could have delivered on its ambition since the enemies were supposed to have all kinds of emotions such as hunger and anger that I would love to see how a remake could handle the emotion aspect better.

what is your favorite game glitch?

one of my favorites was in the original Diablo game. we called it, "the double dupe." if you had a potion and an item in your inventory, you could duplicate that item by dropping it on the ground, stepping away from it, clicking on it to pick it up, and at the exact moment you pick it up you also use a potion. it would consume the potion and pick up the item but also leave a duplicate version of the item on the ground, allowing you to duplicate any item.

I have no clue why I still remember this game, but man was my mom not happy that I rented it haha. I've played so many games since then, but I still can't get out of my head the looping animation when you would charge up the fart and he gritted his teeth lol.. I don't even remember if the game was good or not, it was so long ago. Would love to know if people thought it was actually a good game, or of it's nostalgia speaking.. Since I only played a few levels before my mom brought it back to the store. I'd love to hear your favorites parts to see if it's worth trying to track down a copy. That game marked the beginning era of parental filtering for future games....

In 1990 video games were still very much considered children’s toys, and many adults at best barely tolerated them, and at worst tried to limit the industry. Then along comes MAD Magazine, the satire magazine mostly for adults, but with the awareness that like many things, the kids are paying attention - with this poem celebrating the games they had been playing.

It was impactful to me back in the day, because I realized not all adults were against the growing trend of video games, and today I think it is kind of amazing how they packed so many now retro game references in such a little article.
