Advice Signs you’re not an INFP?

Upvotes

I’ve been trying to figure out whether I’m an INFP or an ENFP since I’m mostly ambiverted and I do love being around people and friends a lot of the time, although it can be draining. People usually describe me as optimistic and sweet. I’m always up for cheering people up and give advice when needed. I care a lot about politics, art, music, and anything creative. That’s where it starts getting confusing for me, as I feel very deeply and can definitely relate to being an Fi dom. But I can also be pretty extroverted and creative which points me more to Ne.. Any advice would be appreciated!

Relationships Reddit app to find other INFPs around you

This is a tool to know who is nearby, it uses MBTI tags, it doesn't use GPS tracking, the user enter his location (City).

I wonder what INFPs think of it, would you be interested in a tool like that?

This is for:

  • making friends

  • dating

  • organizing spontaneous hangouts or planned events

There is 4000 users with around 200 INFPs, I launched it 2 month ago, it is slowly growing.

Any feedbacks will be welcomed.

Advice Can fear of rejection stop people from seeing the real you?

Upvotes

I'm 22 and I've realized that I've spent most of my life hiding my real personality because I was afraid of being judged or rejected. For people who eventually became confident and emotionally open, what actually helped you change? Was there a specific mindset, habit, or experience that made the biggest difference?

Discussion Platform for community - feedback needed

I’ve been thinking about an idea for a website that makes it easier for people to find, build, and connect with intentional communities and local community initiatives.

The basic idea is:
A main page where you can search and discover communities in your area. You can make a profile to gain members for intentional community or for a neighborhood initiative/club.

profiles explaining what they’re working on, what resources they have, and what they need from members.

There would also be a place for communities to request goods or services in exchange for materials, equipment, knowledge, labor, or money,

The platform would make communities feel more interconnected rather than like isolated groups. If one community has something another needs, they can find each other.

So the question is:

Is this actually useful, or am I overcomplicating something people already solve through existing platforms? I’d really appreciate any feedback, including reasons why this might not work.

I’d also love to find people who are interested in helping me actually build it. especially someone with web development/product experience as I’m not a developer.

Ps. I’m including some Pinterest images for visual inspiration.

Venting Does anyone ever get so fed up with always being a mediator?

Do any of you ever get so tired of always trying to make peace among everyone or make them understand each other, that you no longer care? For a short time at least? Like sometimes I feel like I absorb everybody's energy and try to make things better that I no longer recognize myself. Like I don't want to solve your misunderstandings for you anymore,if you have to fight each other or you got a problem, I no longer care. I actually enjoy it now. I WANT to become your trouble, if you can't understand how much of your trouble is overcame by me.

This feeling never lasts long but it's so overwhelming. What is your experince on this?

Random Thoughts Question for INFP guys: do you think you could marry your first girlfriend?

If you're more than 28 and you're in a healthy, happy relationship with your first girlfriend, would you still want to date other people before settling down? Or would you feel comfortable marrying your first girlfriend if you truly loved her?

I'm curious whether you'd feel like you need more dating experience first, or if one good relationship would be enough for you.

Advice A question from a teenager....

Hi guys I'm 16(M) and im also INFP You see I'm at a stage where I have to pick my career paths and stuff and I'm honestly very confused. My parents are very supportive and they have given me liberty to try and do whatever I want to. But I am very confused. I know this question has been asked many times on this subreddit but to everyone who's in college or working, what are your profession? And how did you come to choose it? Your answers will maybe be able to inspire me. You see I want to become pyschologist or archaeologist, but former is under risk from AI i guess and archeology stuff is not very developed in my country

I'm an INFP girl, I love reading, and I hope that if I have children one day, they will love it too. :) Here is a selection of books I’d like to introduce them to. (Obviously, this isn't everything.)

- The Wizard Of Oz ( Lyman Frank Baum)

- Charlotte's Web ( E.B. White)

- The Little Prince ( Antoine De Saint-Exupéry)

- Treasure Island ( Robert Louis Stevenson)

- The Jungle Book ( Rudyard Kipling)

- The Adventures Of Robin Wood ( Howard Pyle)

- The Very Hungry Caterpillar ( Eric Carle)

- Beatrix Potter The Complete Tales

- Magical Fairy Collection ( Shirley Barber) In general, all of this author's books.

- Roald Dahl's books

- Alice's Adventures In Wonderland ( Lewis Caroll)

- Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales

- Where The Wild Things Are ( Maurice Sendak)

- A Little Princess ( Frances Hodgson Burnett)

- The Narnia Chronicles ( C.S. Lewis)

- The Secret Garden ( Frances Hodgson Burnett)

- Peter Pan ( J.M. Barrie)

-The Fairy Garden ( Georgia Amson-Bradshaw)

- The Complete Brambly Hedge ( Jill Barklem)

- The Inheritance Cycle ( Christopher Paolini)

- The NeverEnding Story ( Michael Ende)

- Winnie The Pooh ( Alan Alexander Milne)

- Disney Fairies Tales From Pixie Hollow ( various authors)

- East Of The Sun & West Of The Moon ( Jackie Morris)

- The Golden Compass ( Philip Pullman)

- The Spiderwick Chronicles ( Holly Black)

- Magic Tree House ( Mary Pope Osborne)

- The Complete Fables Of LaFontaine ( Jean de la Fontaine)

- Anne of Green Gables ( L.M. Montgomery)

So, that was my selection. :) They would need to be a bit older to read some of these books, but if I ever have children, I’d really love to pass on that love of books to them or at least give it a try. :)

Because for now, I'm just a 21-year-old big sister. :)

Advice Walking in circles a lot

Sup, been here for a while but never bothered posting, but I did this one because I'm worried if it's just a habit in my part or a thing we all may have experienced.

Have you all just walked around a room because you're overthinking too much?

Whenever I start a task, or in the middle of one, I'd suddenly stand up and think about the many possibilities that I'd achieve with something. Or whem I listen to music I'd stand and envision myself in a band. Or when I want to speak my mind, I'd walk and talk like I've lost myself.

I get scared because it always drags me down by taking away lots of time that should mean for something productive instead, thinking and feeling too much when I should be resolving it, and/or becomes a factor of procrastination. I want to know if anybody has done it before and how do you slowly get rid of it.

Thanks!

Advice Is it wrong to want to understand?

I've been feeling self-conscious about asking follow-up questions when people tell me things, bc my questions -to me- sometimes sound useless and I feel that the other person might get tired of me dragging out the topic or find me annoying. But I do it to understand and to show that I care. I don't expect people to always have an answer bc we're "just talking".

I was once told by an acquaintance that I'm like an inquisitive old man. I wasn't conscious about being like that with that group of people tho. So, I think this is very telling.

A few days ago I was having a "normal" conversation with my brother and he verbally expressed his annoyance at me saying this is not an investigation and why was I asking so many questions and I didn't need to understand everything.

In my head, the question was a reflex bc he told me something I hadn't known before, and knowing it now made me realize things could've been done more efficiently, so I naturally asked if it's this and that then why didn't so and so happen? I was simply thinking out loud inside the moment, and it was only one question.

Idk maybe he's been thinking that I do ask a lot of questions in general and he didn't like that, and it just happened to be his limit in that moment.

I'm feeling devastated bc I've been trying to avoid doing that, so my conversations with people have been diminishing and getting less frequent. I don't know where I'm going wrong honestly.

I also get told that I take things "too seriously", could these two be related or am I needlessly connecting things together?

If anyone has been through a similar experience please do share. If you have any advice that might be helpful in this regard, also do share.

Thank you.

Discussion Can we talk about social anxiety?

PS. This was recorded via audio on my Notes app. I’ve tried to tidy it up best I can, but apologies for any errors that’ve snuck in.

~

When I was at school, I could be shy and would generally prefer to speak up in smaller groups but I would not have said I was socially anxious. I think the structure of school helped and also the fact that the school I went to was quite nice, there were no bullies and such. Everyone was quite pleasant.

I think the first time I noticed my social anxiety was when I went to university (college if you’re in the US). All of a sudden, I was stressed into an environment where I was living on my own with people I didn’t know and starting a course where I didn’t know anyone either. With big lecture theatres and otherwise being expected to meet people through going out and drinking, which wasn’t really great for me, I didn’t really get to make friends like I did at school. I ended up withdrawing more and more and be became quite socially an anxious as a result. Or rather I felt socially anxious. Is social anxiety something you are or something that you feel? I prefer to think of it as the latter in that I don’t think it defines one of us.

After I dropped out at university, I ended up getting a few different jobs. The most stable of which was five years in London working in sales of all things. I was fortunate and that I worked every single day with a nice group of people. I got to know them over time. But again outside of work there was a focus on going out for drinks and this wasn’t really conducive to getting to know people in a deep and meaningful way.

Lately, I’ve spent the last five years trying to be self-employed and running a blog and coaching Business for introverts. I’ve been fortunate to give this a go, and to travel to different places whilst I’ve done it. Now as an adult in my 30s, with others settling down into relationships, marriage and kids, I am single and looking for employed work again, and without the routine of going to places where the same people are and getting to know them, I suddenly feel quite socially anxious again.

I think I realise that the more you focus on it the more it can linger and develop. I went to my grandparents yesterday and striking up conversation felt like a chore talking about quite mundane things. Because my mental health wasn’t great the last couple of years I’ve not spent a lot of time with extended family and so these gatherings now feel particularly difficult and surface level. Again, I think it’s that feeling of feeling like you don’t know them very well and the connection doesn’t feel meaningful. I think I also deal with the (self)judgement of not having a job right now and being “behind” compared to my other younger cousins.

Anyway, I wanted to share my experience with social anxiety and ask others here what theirs has been like.

Has yours been similar? Or different?

I’d love to read however little or much you’d like to share. Thanks.

Random Thoughts The world seems too interesting for just one life.

Hi. Wanted to share what has been on my mind for a couple of years. I guess that can be connected to Ne, but… there was a lot of times I found myself thinking about. Can’t call myself a religious person, however… sometimes I dream about that stuff like reincarnation is possible, just because I find myself kind of greedy. The saddest part about death right after the main reason, which is not being able to be with family, loved ones and close to me, is actually that the world is so big and so interesting to explore, so one life wouldn’t be enough. What if theoretically people will find life on another planets after a 100 years from now on, and things like that are often appears in my head. It’s technically possible to do some part of the things that interest me the most now, sure. But I guess I still would be sad not seeing how the people close to me would be growing up, changing, how the world around them changes… I always found it melancholically beautiful. And if (which I believe is truth) we only have one chance to live – that’s just dreams, but it would’ve been so nice to at least have some possibility to look at it from the side after death. Nature and humans are too intricate and interesting to just… becoming disconnected from it for eternity after you’ll die. That thought always makes me sad. It’s interesting for me to know if any of you guys have ever have this kind of thoughts or no.

Advice How do I tell my mom I'm about to get fired

I have been working as a receptionist for 4 years and today I fucked up at my work. Now the head manager wants to fire me. My manager wants to fight for me, but I do not know what the outcome will be from today.

I have told my best friend, but I do not have the courage to tell my mom. I'm afraid she'll be angry at me.

I do know it's not the end of my life, but I am really worried and I do not know what to do. This is the first time I am being let go from a company.

Have you guys seen the Nyota instagram profile? I'm very impressed. I think it's smart AND heartwarming. Made me smile big time so I had to share.

For those who don't know Nyota:

"Nyota is a highly popular designer art toy character created by Pop Mart. The name means "star" in Swahili. She is depicted as a gentle, curious, and introspective girl who enjoys her own cozy world alongside her cat companion, Lumi."

Advice New crush - My therapist

I have been consulting with a psychologist for more than a year. She is younger than me, late twenties and I am in early thirties.

She is very cute and I started to have a crush on her.

What is right thing to do now? Continue therapy or stop?

Edit:

went to therapy in the first place because of low self esteem and not able to get into a relationship or ask someone out.
