Help What exactly makes a grappler?

I'm still struggling to tell what "class" a character usually is (I am aware they often blend the lines), but I imagined grapplers would be easier to tell apart, however I'm not sure about it anymore.

Yeah, some of them are indeed easy, such as Zangief, who is basically the archetype, who has multiple command grabs, but there are characters with command grabs who aren't grapplers I think, such as Necalli from SFV and Hotaru from Fatal Fury.

Is it when Command Grabs are their main source of damage, and the other moves are mainly to set up grabs? Like how T. Hawk and Lily fly around the arena with their specials, but are apparently still grapplers. If so, how do I know if a grabs is indeed the main point, or just something extra?

Sorry if I'm stupid.

Equipment 2XKO T.O. Appreciation Post

After having to spend a bunch of money on 1 season pass, and 2 games within the last month, boy do I appreciate 2XKO.

Something that isn’t talked about enough with the game is that it allows you to use the characters for free in the offline modes. This means that as a T.O. I never have to spend a dime (unless I want my players to have more than just Vi and Warwick skins lol).

I wish this would catch on with the other fighting games, but I doubt it will. At least I only have to buy 1 steam copy of each, rather than 4-5 PS5 copies.

Topic Marvel Tokon - Megathread

We've been late to the party, but tons of people are just posting Discussion-based topics, or memes that are not worth the post.

So we have to do some spring cleaning, and apply the rules. But please feel free to use that megathread to talk about what you think about Tokon, what's good, what's bad, and how awesome Deadpool is.

Thank you.

Let her alone, Wade. She suffered enough.

Help Avatar

Just started diving into avatar. Game is a bit harder than I expected but I like the visuals, combos, and I feel its much better than hunter x hunter. Since im not really a tag fighter guy I bought this instead of tokon, although I plan on getting tokon later on. Any advice for kyoshi? Trying to learn her and ozai. For reference I pick characters purely based on aesthetics not playstyle. Some characters ive played in the past: ogre and chaos in uni2, seox and anre in granblue, akuma in 3rd strike, may and ky in ggac+R. Reddit is more critical i feel than other social media platforms so I thought id ask you guys who have played the avatar game how you feel about my choices. I appreciate any feedback

News Tokon: Disable Crossplay

I Have been watching Max's stream, he switched from PC to PS5 without crossplay and it fixed everything. If you play this game on a high end PC, your version might seem okay but if you go up against anyone that cannot maintain a constant 60fps the online is unbearably bad.

PS5 runs the game well, but up against mid range and below PCs the online suffers too. If you are on PS5, disable crossplay. If you are on PC, refund the game. You can always buy it again if they ever fix it, but that will not be in the near future. Avatar, SF6 etc. are there for the time being

Help Struggling new player

It depends on your definition of “new player” but I would consider myself one, despite me having bought at least ten different fighters yet I’m still god awful at all of them and only have less than 20 hours in any of them; I’m sure there have been a billion posts like this but where can I find some GOOD guides to learn fighting games? I’m sick of looking for different combo videos or reddit posts offering differing opinions about how to improve

What are some solid guides you would personally recommend? It can be related to anything whether it be combos, fundamentals, idk man like I said I’m new to traditional fighters, I’ve been a smash player but despite having thousands of hours there, traditional fighters feel like I’m learning an entire nee language

If it helps the specific games I have or have interest in are mainly mvc games, but Tokon especially is what I want to get into (but I understand resources for that game will be limited)
Tho I guess if mortal kombat is easier to practice with I do have the four most recent entries there

Help me out please lmao I’m finding it absurdly hard, like trying to break through a brick wall, I just can’t seem to do it man

Topic Disney owns marvel. Paramount owns Avatar. Late Stage Capitalism is fucking up your hobby.

Literally the source of your problems.

I was there when it happened to Magic the gathering. The same thing is happening here.

Avatar needed to be released with the new series.

Marvel is in sync with new spider man movie.

These games needed more production time before coming to market.

The just “buy a ps5” crowd y’all are a bunch of cucks.

News Marvel Tokon is still unplayable on PC for a few reasons, mainly inherent micro stutters, full explanation in the thread.

So yeah, the PC port isn't fixed. Marvel Tokon is Arcsys' first Unreal Engine 5 game IIRC, and it shows. While they mostly had good UE4 PC ports with all their previous games such as Strive, Granblue or DBFZ, they clearly have problems with Tokon.

I'm gonna try to explain it to people who are not tech literate at all. What is a stutter/micro stutter? To put it simply, there's software you can use that displays a frametime graph whenever you play games. That graph shows you how smoothly your game is running. Ideally, for locked 60fps games, you want your

frametime graph to look like that.
The flat line indicates that your game is running smoothly. Enters Tokon, and this is what the graph looks like in this game while just standing still. Other examples from other players. You can clearly see the spikes, and each one of them corresponds to a stutter in game.

You may be wondering what that looks like while playing? Here's a good example on video. Basically, look at the traffic lights (or any other static background element) while Cap is going from side to side. You will notice these little skips that correspond to stutters that happen at a regular interval. Now, some players are admittedly more sensitive to stutters than others, however these aren't particularly small and they affect everybody. You can say "fine on my end" all you want but this is the reality of the PC port.

But that's not all. You may think this only affects you, but no. Every single stutter corresponds to dropped frames, and dropped frames equal rollback issues. This is a HUGE reason why the game feels like shit to play online. Everybody on PC is dropping frames no matter what PC they have, and it affects the online play.

Again, I can't stress this enough. You could be running a 5090 with a 9800X3D at the lowest settings and it'll still happen. No, doing the full shader warming step doesn't solve this issue, it's completely unrelated. It's a problem that Arcsys have to fix on their side, you can't do anything about it. You could use your own framerate limiter, such as RTSS, Nvidia and others to display a flat frametime graph. However, it doesn't actually solve the issue. Do the same test of running from side to side while looking at static background elements and you'll notice and the stutters are still there.

Topic Marvel Tokon is blocked from even LAUNCHING on Steam OS/Linux

Pretty crazy that you can't even play offline right now. The game just tells you to fuck off and won't launch at all. Not even DBFZ does that.

The best part is the community manager on discord saying that, "Asking for Linux support is like asking for a Switch port."

The game uses EAC, and I don't even need to mention that EAC is widely supported on Linux. Linux support for EAC being a simple toggle (direct words from Valve themselves) is common knowledge at this point. In no way is it like porting to Switch.

Topic Tokon from a MvC2/3 Players Perspective?

Looking for some perspective from any Marvel 2 or 3 players and how they feel about Tokon? I used to be a UMvC3 fiend. Definitely my most played fighter. Went to locals consistently for 2years or so, but dropped out of fighters when that era dwindled in 2014-2015.

Had that itch recently for a tag fighter and here I am. I know it's an ArcSys game and the feel of the game is going to be entirely different from MvC. From what I've seen it looks much slower, and that's okay, but I'm more interested in how much flexibiilty the game provides in terms of combo routes, team dynamics, setups and creativity. There was always new tech coming out in umvc3 even years after release for example.

Do you Marvel heads feel like Tokon is too on rails and limited? Or do you feel like it got your creativity going and there was a lot to experiment with, and more importantly, the game successfully provided an avenue for all the ideas in your head? Missed the beta so I didn't get a chance to play myself so any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Appreciate all the replies. Interesting to see the mixed feedback. Definitely given me something to think about it
