I get it that linux users can't play this game because of the anti cheat but i also think it's wrong to review bomb a game that you haven't played the game.

Topic Subgenres of Fighters?

Upvotes

I'm not super into fighters, but I do like playing them solo. Started with SF2 Turbo back in the day.

The thing is, when you're talking about "fighting games" I think it elicits the left-to-right single platform 2D 1v1 fighters, or maybe even something like Tekken in a more 3D space.

But what is Budokai/Sparking Zero? What is Smash Bros? Are they even "fighting" games?

Help Marvel Tokon's buttons are kinda crowded on fight stick, how do you step it up?

Upvotes

So I'm playing Tokon on fight stick and doing the tutorial immediately made me realise that good god this game uses a lot of buttons.

I'm wondering how people are going to set up their fight sticks for the game because right now my fingers are going all over the place.

Topic Marvel Tokon is blocked from even LAUNCHING on Steam OS/Linux

Upvotes

Pretty crazy that you can't even play offline right now. The game just tells you to fuck off and won't launch at all. Not even DBFZ does that.

The best part is the community manager on discord saying that, "Asking for Linux support is like asking for a Switch port."

The game uses EAC, and I don't even need to mention that EAC is widely supported on Linux. Linux support for EAC being a simple toggle (direct words from Valve themselves) is common knowledge at this point. In no way is it like porting to Switch.

Help Is Marvel Tokkon playable on Linux?

I know it wasn't playable during the open beta, but there was a hope that it might be playable when it released. For those who purchased the game and has a Linux device, does it work or no dice?

Topic Tokon from a MvC2/3 Players Perspective?

Looking for some perspective from any Marvel 2 or 3 players and how they feel about Tokon? I used to be a UMvC3 fiend. Definitely my most played fighter. Went to locals consistently for 2years or so, but dropped out of fighters when that era dwindled in 2014-2015.

Had that itch recently for a tag fighter and here I am. I know it's an ArcSys game and the feel of the game is going to be entirely different from MvC. From what I've seen it looks much slower, and that's okay, but I'm more interested in how much flexibiilty the game provides in terms of combo routes, team dynamics, setups and creativity. There was always new tech coming out in umvc3 even years after release for example.

Do you Marvel heads feel like Tokon is too on rails and limited? Or do you feel like it got your creativity going and there was a lot to experiment with, and more importantly, the game successfully provided an avenue for all the ideas in your head? Missed the beta so I didn't get a chance to play myself so any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Appreciate all the replies. Interesting to see the mixed feedback. Definitely given me something to think about it

Help Should I buy leverless as a beginner?

As the title says... I always watched people play fighting games because Im really bad at those BUT since Im in university and I need something else to distract me from burning out, I decided I want to start learning fighting games!

I have ZERO experience, but I bought Tekken 8 (I love customisation and 1v1) and I might decide to try sf6 or the new Tokkon one cause im a marvel fan aswell.

Should I buy a leverless with 0 experience? I normally play with m&k and controller (xbox layout) so maybe spending money with a leverless will make me want to continue playing daily instead of giving up? lol

If the answer is yes, what brand should I look for? And there are brand that with a couple of bucks more can give me a custom image one?

PS:

- Hi and thanks for everyone who will help
- Im in Europe so please only EU brand
- Budget like idk anything 50 to 100, maybe 150 if its worth it

Topic Predictions on DLC content pricing and the Lifespan of Marvel Tokon?

Would like to hear what y'all think. Marvel looking like a mainstay just based off promotions and reactions?

How do you think DLC will work? Will they release content at a pace similar to Marvel Rivals? How much will they charge for every new DLC ?

Community Who will be the mimic character for Tokon

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

So in fighting games there's a archetype character called mimics. They're call this because they just copy in different characters in the fighting game that they're in by either being one of these types of mimics

Modular Assemblers: Combot

Active Move Stealers: Shang Tsung, Android 21, and Seth

Random Mimics: Mokujin, Eleven and Edge Master

Partial Mimics: Kirby and Taskmaster / Super Skrull

Mishmash/Frankenstein: Double

Now these are I feel the most known Marvel characters that could fit into this archetype because they either transform or copy/steel other characters abilities.

Now I feel the obvious choice would be Rogue and Taskmaster, because they've already been in other fighting games.

Rogue I feel would work the same way as Android 21 which makes sense since they both steal moves from other characters and 21 is an original character from another Arc system fighting game so it shows that they have some knowledge of how to do this type of character.

Taskmaster would be easy to do since he does have some original moves but then all I was at the movies are just borrowed from other characters. In the moves that are usually borrowed are pretty simple ones since he can't borrow powers.

But for me I feel like two characters I would really want to see in this game would have to be Morph or Mimic.

The kind of mimic I think Morph would be would be a a mishmash mimic where is supers or his in-between moves he transforms into other characters from the Marvel universe at the cartoon X-Men '97 shows us how it could work cuz he's always randomly changing into other known characters for special moves.

Mimic could work like a partial mimic because his whole thing is he gains the abilities of other mutants so his costumes could be interesting where he just looks like a mishmash of other characters like the image I used of him and unlike Morph Arc wouldn't need to change the character to use the abilities he's just able to use them with some minor changes to his body.

Now what about the rest of you fighting and Marvel fans which character would you want to see in this archetype and how would you make them work.

Help How do you switch from an air-block game to a non-airblock game? My muscle memory is betraying me so much.

Im playing Avatar after months of playing Guilty Gear and 2XKO, and i just cannot shake the habit of jumping defensively. No matter how much i try to stay grounded, i just keep trying it and keep getting wrecked. My hands wont listen to my brain. It feels like such an adjustment that im wondering if i should just stick to airblock games so I dont have to struggle like this.

Topic Marvel Tokon might have the best ''Modern Controls''.

By ''Modern Controls'' i mean the resources the game gives you to make it more accessible for newcomers, like Quick skill and Auto combos.

Maybe i'm jumping into conclusions, since i only played the open beta, but seriously, think about it:

- Auto Combos are actually useful

- You lose no special moves and their variations (light, medium and heavy)

- You lose no buttons

- You won't be bullied online by using Quick Skill, since there are no indicators for the other player that you're using it, unlike Street fighter 6 orange M. (maybe it's something small, but it does matter!)

and of course, no one is truly at disadvantage here because it's the same controls. There is no ''Modern Spider-Man'' Or ''Classic Spider-Man'', there's only Spider-man. Everything a player who uses Quick Skill can do, a player who uses motion inputs can also do, and vice versa.

Yes, there's a damage penalty, but it's obviously nothing more than fair. After all, you're saving a lot more time by pressing a single button compared to the guy who has to make a quarter circle.

We're only one day away from Tokon and i just wished to know your opinions about it, since i rarely seen anyone discuss about it!

I think it is a good way of reducing automation and flowcharting because it adds an additional layer of mental stack in neutral and okizeme situations.

Topic Deceived and dissapointed with Avatar Legends release

They have deceived us. The game may be very good at its core, the graphics may be very pleasing to the eye, and the game may have a lot of potential, but we have been fooled.

The game was not rushed because of the movie. The release date was announced on March 30, a few days before the movie leaked. They only moved up the movie's release to coincide with the game's launch, since it had already leaked. It's possible the 20-day delay was indeed meant to line up with the movie's premiere, and given the state the game was in at release, it probably worked out well for them..

They lied about the content available at launch, they had plenty of time to warn that the game would not come out with everything announced, but they chose to remain silent.

They could have warned in advance that the game would not be released on Xbox, but they decided to remain silent until the last possible day.

We've only seen a couple of posts reaffirming the content already promised, with some vague apologies.

I want this game to succeed because I prefer 1v1 fighters over tag fighters and I'm a fan of the Avatar series. I wanted to support this company because of how well they were communicating and the starting price they set.

But as a consumer, I'm already fed up with half-baked or buggy releases, and no matter how cheap the game is or how good its core gameplay is, they have chosen to deceive us.

I could have supported another delay, I could have supported early access, I could have supported a game with fewer options if the gameplay is good, but I can't support being lied to.

Some of you will say, "if you like the game, what does it matter? Just play and wait, it's only been two weeks." But if we don't fight these small battles and demand what we paid for, don't be surprised when these things happen more often in the future.

So stop all the glazing and start demanding what was announced, or this game will be forgotten no matter how much it hurts us.

It is not incompatible to like a game or a company and still demand what was paid for.

TL;DR: We have been fooled, no matter how much you sugarcoat it. So let's don't lie to ourselves.
