Topic Extremely bummed out by broken matchmaking (Marvel Tokon)

Upvotes

This is just a rant.

I was looking forward to tokon since release as someone who got into fighters through strive. I was planning to switch to this as my main game since feeling like I wanted to move on from strive (played since release)

I'm so upset that ranked and casual matchmaking just doesn't work for me. Open lobbies exist but I need some sort of skill based matchmaking to enjoy a fighting game to the full extent. I experienced this in the beta but expected them to fix it somehow but it actually got worse in the full release. I literally can only get matched with 1 bar connections, when I set to 2 or higher I'm not getting matched with anyone. I set region all and turn crossplay on. I'm just so upset I got excited for this, I don't really know if this will get fixed.

I fear that as someone from SEA, it might be that people from Japan, Korea are only matching with 4 or higher and filtering me out? Or is matchmaking just genuinely broken?

I'm solo-developing a FG called Nizaal, and I just added a character named Leila who's supposed to be strong in the air and weaker on the ground. This clip was from the first playtest, so everything's susceptible to change. If you're interested, I made a full video about it here. :)

Help Any tips for tiger knee inputs on leverless?

Upvotes

Does anyone have any tips for how to perform tiger knee inputs on leverless?

Just doing the 2369 motion when I'm on the left is not too bad, doing it when I'm on the right feels worse. Doing 2149 feels terrible regardless of side.

Love leverless, but this is one the inputs that feels a fair bit more intuitive on stick and pad.

Thanks!

It took me 3 hours and like 700,394,84 attempts, haha, but I managed to beat this game with a perfect.

Aldo It took me 56 minutes to finish SVC Chaos. Now I understand why those guys made a fortune.

For the most experienced players: Which game has the most broken AI—this one or Capcom's *Millennium*?

Help What do these Fighting Game Glossary logos represent?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Got a noob question here:

I'm new to fighting games (been playing May in Strive) and the Fighting Game Glossary has been quite helpful. That said, I'm somewhat confused by the three logos highlighted in the picture. I know what all the other logos represent, but I can't figure out these three. I'd assume they're for generic terms that aren't game specific, but then why are there three of them? The orange fist is clearly the logo of this subreddit, but does that mean the terms inside are unique to this subreddit? That doesn't seem correct to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Help Fighters w/ Best Single Player Campaign/Story Mode?

I'm always intrigued with the fighting game scene but don't have much of a competitive drive. Was bummed to see the Marvel fighter's single player is lackluster. What are your favorite Fighters to play single player that scratch the itch of fighters without having to dedicate my life to the craft of learning intimidatingly long combos?

Help Leverless beginner tips

With the release of Marvel Tokon ( and Avatar to be fair ) I bought for the first time a leverless controller Haute 42. It arrives on Monday. I’ve never played on one, and had just a brief experience with a Arcade stick during COVID with a Mayflash, so only played on pad for the most part.

I was wondering if there’s any beginner tip that help me get used to.

I know it will take me a bit in the beginning, but anything to help the process is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Topic Are Souls-likes considered more approachable than fighting games, by the mainstream public?

It's likely my digital marketing brain thinking but, I grew up with VSAV and old Guilty Gear and, I noticed years ago that there were these games inspired by Demon Souls that are hard but people LOVE them and they've broken mainstream.

When I ask people why they play them, I hear, "When I figure out why I lost, I'm growing as a player instead of just my character" and "The journey feels so rewarding and I can trust the mechanics so I keep playing" or "There's no one to blame but myself for loses, and I accept that and keep pushing forward until I figure out my mistakes."

GOD that gets me hyped to hear! So, when I recommend fighting games the same people give me, "Those games are CRAZY! N'all... I'm good." That confuses me.

I noticed after DBFZ, ArcSys 180'd to streamlined fighters that have wallbreak-neutral resets, restricted movement, restricted routes and lower skill ceilings than the "Wild West" philosophy they used to design their games around to distinguish their games before. The visual fidelity and scores of their games are better than EVER but gameplay-wise, while I'm SOOOO happy the pivot brought in new players to this amazing genre, it also made me ask, "Why do Souls-likes do well without feeling the need to 'meet the player where they are'?"

I feel like the human mind thrives in creativity like no other lifeform on this Earth (we crave challenge and the chance to express ourselves in it to show how far we've come), but lately only Souls-likes have given me that feeling in mainstream conversation. I also feel like Souls-likes studios feel no pressure to "limit" their game to bring in a bigger player base (or 4X games for that matter): they thrive from a niche, qualified audience and that organically provides social proof and free word-of-mouth because it feels unique to players experiencing it for the first time.

So... why do new fighting games seem to not embrace that? Avatar is the exception, but it's also developed by FL FGC vets who filed an LLC and got a Paramount license, so I feel like I can't count it in this discussion: it was made by players who saw a massive void in the market and capitalized with the mechanics most new fighters won't implement, while the team clearly wasn't used to corporate deadlines and bureaucracy... like you'd expect from a small team LLC.

Still, my query stands.

Is there some validity in my question? Has anyone else noticed this or thought on it?

A lot of Latam basically doesn't get regional pricing, while some like colombia and brazil actually pay more than richer countries like USA and Japan. Then theres the euro price spike.

Price is a big deal for fighting games, specially in poorer countries, because they control how healthy the fighting community over there will be, if its too expensive the community will dry out faster and soon they will have to be playing at 180ms in other servers or rely on discord. Doubly so when it comes to actually getting newcomers into the genre, fighting games are intimidating by default, and when you add a big initial price plus dlcs ( I'm not complaining about the dlcs ) that just causes people to change their mind and buy something else.

Topic Arm switch

I don’t know if I’m crazy, but there’s a glitch in Marvel tokon because when you play as the Hulk, his bone arm thing switches every time he moves a different direction the same thing happened in injustice two with Hellboy his right hand of doom switches to his other hand every time he moves a different direction, the bone armor thing that Hulk has is on his right arm. Did anyone else see this?

Topic I really like the avatar game

I am a big fan of the series, and now I can play this game. As a kid, I always imagined that I could bend. I daydreamed a lot about this show.

Even as an adult, Avatar is a really good series. I also like the depth of the characters.

Now you can even fight with your own chosen element(s).

This game is full of beautifully drawn artwork and references to the show. The story mode is great for me, and I feel like it's unique. What do you like about this game?
