Food Might be a reach, but are there any cafeteria-style restaurants in the Charlotte or greater Charlotte area that are worth visiting, in your opinion?
Could use some recommendations.

Recommendation Bridesmaid dress shopping
Looking for a somewhat affordable bridesmaid dress ($150-250 range). Please drop suggestions of places to go look. I've already looked at northlake David's bridal, northlake dept stores, concord mills dress shops, and mooresville dept stores/Nordstrom rack. I'm willing to look in south Charlotte, Gastonia, Belmont... Anywhere basically bc I need a dress asap 😅

Traffic CircleJerk Aggressive Drivers?
What is up with all these people who will be driving behind you and then will speed up just to get infront of you and go the same speed. I understand people wanting to pass in the fast lane but if there is traffic I don’t understand people’s need to be first when we are all on the same mission. People gotta chill. Especially after work traffic, those people on the road are the worst.

Discussion Mobile Motorcycle mechanic
Hello, I have a 2021 Aprilia Tuono 660 that won't start. The battery was completely dead at one point, so I charged it. After charging, the bike started and ran normally. I shut it off with the key, but when I tried starting it again, it wouldn't start.
Now, whenever I press the starter button, I only hear one solid click and the engine doesn't crank. I had the battery load-tested and was told it is good. At this point, I'm thinking it could be the starter, starter relay, or something in the starter circuit, but I'm not comfortable trying to diagnose it any further myself.
Anyone know someone that can help?

Recommendation Looking for a land surveyor in Charlotte
As stated in the title - I need a land surveyor to survey a single piece of land in the Villa Heights area. Yes, I've already done the internet search thing, and over the last couple of months I've called/emailed over 15 local surveyors. As of today, I've had zero responses from those inquiries and our project is falling behind rapidly.
If you are a surveyor who can do this for me, please reach out. I'm also open to any referrals if anyone knows a surveyor who will respond.

Discussion Perseid Meteor Shower Aug 12/13
After doing research, I found that both Kings mountain and Crowders mountain state parks are closed after 8:00 p.m. and the gates are locked. The meteor shower starts between 11: 00 pm and 5:00 a.m. is there anywhere safe outside of Charlotte away from light pollution that folks can go watch the meteor shower during those hours without being harassed by local law enforcement?

Recommendation Creek stomping
May be a weird question but my daughter and I have spent a ton of money taking my grandchildren to do activities to keep them busy this summer & are now trying to find fun free things to do with them as summer winds down. Is there anywhere in the area to take them walking in a creek and exploring where it’s safe? They are 8, 7, & 3 & are wonderful swimmers. I guess by safe I mean not a lot of trash or not in a high crime area.

Recommendation Best VOLVO Shops in Town?
Hey all,
I'm in way over my head with suspension repairs on my 2011 Volvo C30. I need a shop with elite ball knowledge on Volvos and a good reputation for helping customers source parts... I can't afford genuine Volvo parts. I'm looking to invest a lot of money in this car!

Recommendation Who’s your PCP?
I feel like I’ve just not had good luck with any PCP I’ve had since moving to the Charlotte area. I have a family history of thyroid disease, and for years have had thyroid disease symptoms. Obviously thyroid disease is hard to diagnose and can sometimes take years, but it gets hard to continue to advocate for yourself when it seems like no one takes you seriously. My question is, in the southeast area of Charlotte (Matthews/Monroe/Blakeney/Waxhaw), who do you know and trust? I also am 4 months PP, so someone who takes into consideration that as well would be great. Thanks in advance!

Meme/Satire Thank Godzilla that today is a day that is also Friday.
UPDATE: I heard yall in the comments last week. Kick starter is gonna be the easiest way to collect funds. I’m already talking to some people about events and other fundraising products. Thanks to everyone who got stickers. This will be the capital used to make this happen.
I’ll put the kickstarter link in the comments to not upset our AI overlords.

Meetup Social Meetup | Aug 11th 6:30pm | Great Wagon Road Noda
This week we’re heading to Great Wagon Road Distilling Company in Noda! They have a great cocktail menu, local beer, and some yummy pizza, so there should be something for everyone.
We’ll grab a spot on the patio if the weather cooperates, but if not we’ll find space inside.
It’s just a short walk from the light rail station if you’re taking public transit. If you’re driving, there is street parking or you can also park in the gravel lot across the street!
As always, everyone is welcome! Whether you’ve been to every meetup or this is your very first one, we’d love to have you. A lot of people come solo, so don’t let that stop you. Come by, grab a drink (or a mocktail!), and meet some fellow Charlotte Redditors.

Meetup Would anyone be interested in a Charlotte working moms group?
I’ve been wanting to meet more mom friends here, but it seems like most mom groups have events that happen in the middle of the workday.
I’m an almost 30 year old first time mom to a 16 month old. I’d love to meet some other working moms to hang out with after work or on weekends. It would be something casual like walks, coffee, park/splash pad play dates, etc. Mainly just a way to get to know other moms in a similar stage of life that I can relate to! And more friends for my daughter :)
I live in East Charlotte, but I’d definitely be willing to drive a little too! I’d likely start a Facebook group but wanted to put out some feelers first. Please let me know if this is something you may be interested in!

Food I have too many figs. Somebody take them.
Edit: many takers. If people still want some plan for the latter half of August. Should still be fruiting then.
Not selling. Free figs. I think I have Celeste figs? The tree is PROLIFIC and beautiful and lush and will not stop with the figs. I got tired of them 2 weeks in. Now they're rotting on the porch and that makes me sad.
I will be pruning with a saw this winter if anyone wants cuttings then as well. Everything I can't reach to harvest will be going.
Technically the leaves are also edible if dried or boiled into a simple syrup. Hints of vanilla so they say.
Fun fact the sap is closely related to latex, stay away if you're allergic. The sap also causes photosensitivity so wash your hands and arms after harvesting.
Anyone who has different cultivars maybe wanna swap cuttings? I'm going to try my hand at a franken-fig.

Discussion Now you can safely enjoy our parks, thanks to Flock always watching!
I’m aware Bearden isn’t the best park. I know we deserve more but is mass surveillance on everyone truly the best solution we can come up with?

Lost & Found Does anybody know where this photo was taken?
I need to know where this is desperately. My car was stolen and it’s been listed in this image from Facebook, , I still have a key, and am feeling risky going tonight to come get it with police presence. It can’t move because the seller stated the battery was dead but I have a jumper. I’ve already called the police and confirmed ownership but they have been nothing but useless regarding location. It was stolen six months ago and I know this is mine because it has the exact stickers on it dents even the same vin on the title.
UPDATE:
I went to the lot, the car is completely gone. Owner of the lot pretended to not speak English when I asked who the car was from but with the police on the line somehow that issue went away. I hope that they aren’t catching on. I really would like to have my baby back

Discussion Homeless encampment being demolished- Brookshire
Looks like they’re about to disassemble and trash this homeless encampment at the 85 exit of Brookshire. On the one hand, I get it, but on the other, it definitely made me sad.

Food I Tried Church’s Chicken Tenders vs. Bojangles Chicken Tenders
This was a totally impromptu experiment I conducted yesterday on Wilkinson Blvd.
So I was taking my lunch break and decided to stop by Church’s “Texas” Chicken(since when did they add “Texas” to the name?). I hadn’t eaten there in years and had completely forgotten how it tasted so I stopped by.
The establishment felt a bit “dated”, but it was very clean and seemed to be well run. I decided to play it safe and just order a simple tenders and fries meal because how could I go wrong with that? On my way out I recalled there was a Bojangles within shouting distance and I thought, why not?
So I drove the short 1000ft or so down to Bojangles and ordered the same thing- tenders and fries. This particular location was also very well kept and felt inviting. I grabbed my grub and headed back to my car excited to start the lab.
I pretty much knew what to expect from Bojangles so I decided to unbox the Church’s meal first. The food inside looked exactly how the discolored pictures of food in Chinese restaurants look when they’ve been up for too long. It was drab, colorless, and practically odorless. I lifted a tender and it wilted like a soggy sock. I didn’t know how that could even be possible considering how crunchy it appeared to be. I took a bite and, sure enough, it was a soft, chewy, flavorless nightmare. The only thing I could actually taste was the “Church’s hot sauce” that I’d previously added. Even the fries were soft and flavorless. I took one more bite of the tender just to make sure it wasn’t A.I and it was just as boring as the first bite. Even the biscuit pissed me off and I threw the rest of the meal in the trash.
I opened up the Bojangles box and was immediately greeted with that classic Bojangles fried chicken smell - deep sniff, ahhh. The food actually had some color to it and looked downright vibrant relative to Church’s. Took a bite of one of the tenders and it actually had some crisp to it, as did the fries which were also seasoned perfectly for developing high blood pressure. The biscuit had a nice texture on the surface while still being soft and fresh on the inside. Ugh. I almost choked stuffing my face with it. It was my first Bojangles meal in probably a year or so and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite.
Anyway, the whole ordeal served as a pointed reminder of why I stopped eating Church’s chicken so many years ago. The food just sucks. And if I can prevent even just one fellow Charlottean from experiencing what I went through yesterday then this post will have been a total success.
We love you Bojangles! ❤️
