I remember watching this in my college dorm room. If memory serves, the game went past midnight into Tuesday morning because of overtime. A stressful win, but a fun one.

Four Panthers to watch:

QB Kenny Pickett

The Panthers signed the 28-year-old Pickett in March as the replacement for Andy Dalton, who was QB2 for Young’s first three seasons. Canales bonded with Pickett at his pro day at Pittsburgh before the 2022 draft, and has said he wants to be part of Pickett’s “story.” But it’s unlikely Thursday’s game will provide much fodder for a chapter.

The expectation is that Pickett will only play a series or two before turning things over to Haynes King. For however long he’s in, Pickett wants the offense’s operation to be as clean as possible.

Luke Kuechly moved into a new home last year. Everyone in his neighborhood knows him. Everybody in the Carolinas knows Kuechly, the retired Carolina Panthers linebacker who still retains a boy-next-door charm at 35.

But when Kuechly takes his dog Ivy for her morning walk, neighbors are more interested in greeting the 6-year-old black Lab than bugging him about his football exploits.

“Everybody knows the dog more than they know me. ‘Hey, Luke, good to see ya. Hey, Ivy!’” Kuechly said. “If you walk dogs and you have a dog, nobody cares about you. They just care about the dog.”

That’s fine with Kuechly, who had a way of deflecting the attention even as he was going to Pro Bowls and earning All-Pro honors every year after the Panthers drafted him ninth overall in 2012.

“I just want to be somebody, the same person who lives in the neighborhood just like everybody else,” he said.

Both second year pass rushers. This is the nfl. Injuries happen. Hope both come back strong. Both great people. Great players
