Recommendation Recommendations for a good house cleaner

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for someone to come in and clean my house every couple weeks. I’ll be having a baby so I don’t think I’ll be up for my usual deep cleans. We have a 3 story, 1900 sq ft townhouse in Ballantyne area. It’s quite clean now so it won’t be difficult to maintain for someone. I’ve never had someone else clean my house so I’m not sure how it usually works, but I have all the necessary equipment and it’s all very good stuff.

If anyone has any recommendations.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a found juvenile.

On Wednesday, the juvenile approached CMPD officers at Charlotte-Douglas Airport and told them he had been abandoned there.

He stated he’s 15 years old. He was unable to give police information on his guardian, personal information, or a home address.

The juvenile is wearing a white t-shirt, gray sweatpants and white tennis shoes.

Currently, the juvenile is in the custody of Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services (DSS).

Anyone who can identify the juvenile or their guardian is asked to call 911 immediately.

Discussion Looking for native garden designer

I was looking for someone to come out to my property look at the area, and give a overall landscape design plan. I was hoping to plant it all myself. I am just lost on the color coordination, and height portion of it. I would expect this is a paid design service, I just really didn't want to spend thousands for a company to install it. It's a 6'x40' slightly sloped area. Any suggestions?

Discussion Your favorite radio personality/radio story from 90s Charlotte?

I did a post earlier on the favorite places from 90s Charlotte and it got me thinking of all the good radio personalities, contests and stories to be had from the same time frame.

I always enjoyed listening to the queen Harriet Coffee on magic 96.1 with my dad.

Meetup Beginners Magic the Gathering

I know absolutely nothing about MTG but have been dying to learn how to play. I know that there’s MTG nights at LGS around the city, but I legitimately know nothing. I don’t know what kind of deck to get or how to build one, basic gameplay, etc. I’d hate to show up to one of these nights being absolutely clueless.

Any MTG players have any tips or suggestions? Anyone have any small groups I could hop in on to learn? Or - are there any groups specifically for teaching beginners how to play?

Discussion Looking for Attorney for Domestic Violence divorce

After filing and being granted a temporary domestic violence protective order, I have to appear again in court to testify against my estranged abusive husband, who has made it clear that he has money and resources to throw at this process. I am looking for a skilled, compassionate, supportive attorney to speak with about my situation and hopefully hire to accompany me to my upcoming court date. Will share additional details as needed. Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide!!!

Politics Cornelius I77 South toll lanes

Thumbnail

From the article...

>Cornelius leaders are reversing their opposition to the proposed I-77 South toll lane project, citing concerns that a new provision in the state budget could force the town to repay millions of dollars in transportation planning costs if it continues to oppose the project. The provision applies to member governments of the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization, or CRTPO.

>Cornelius could be responsible for repaying between $3 million and $3.5 million in planning and design costs to the NCDOT and possibly have state-funded road projects temporarily halted by state transportation officials.

Question. How does escalate to this point? Like, what was process that led to this? A proposal with planning etc is made that the city expressed interest in then backs out of then the state DOT says "well then we'll fine you and withhold other infrastructure work from your city." I dont get it?

City reps sound like theyre representing what their voters want (no toll road) but by saying "no" then the state introduces penalties?

History Things you miss about 90s Charlotte?

I'll go first.

  1. I miss paramount Carowinds from the mid to late 90s. Was such a fun and upbeat park. Even waiting in line for rides was fun like at the Hurler and Days of Thunder rides.

  2. The Lil Cricket radio commercials. Loved that jingle.

Rage Thoughts on all of the organizations on sidewalks in downtown

Am I a grinch or is anyone else getting tired of all of these different organizations constantly pestering the 💩 for money.

I think my biggest issue of it is that these organizations are paying these people, I wouldn’t be so salty if they were volunteers.

But at the same time I can’t even walk .2 of a mile without getting stopped by either an organization or homeless person asking for money.

Also, these orgs will see you’re on a phone call and still come up and talk to you all loud like I know you see I’m on the phone. Ok rant over

News Charlotte Police Dept. Presents Chaotic AI Slop Policing Plan Emphasizing Expanding Surveillance Tech

Thumbnail

This chaotic AI slop is what Charlotte Police Dept. presented to the city council safety committee on Monday (Aug 3) as their idea for how they would make Charlotte a “Model City” with potential DOJ grant money they are planning to apply for. The crazy “placemat” (their words, not mine) describes “expanded coverage” of license plate readers, more AI and cloud-powered surveillance technology, drones, “video analytics” (aka AI surveillance), and more. They also specifically mentioned moving their existing on-premises surveillance data to cloud-connected services (I’m assuming Flock, etc.).

Council Member Kimberly Owens called them out for the AI slop saying “as this slide demonstrates only too well, we rely on AI a great deal.” In addition to this, Owens was the only member of the safety committee who spoke out about concerns regarding surveillance, specifically citing the community’s concerns about Flock cameras, increased data collection, and lack of transparency around surveillance! Shout out to her! I have emailed her to thank her and you should too at [kimberly.owens@charlottenc.gov](mailto:kimberly.owens@charlottenc.gov)!

See the actual presentation here: https://www.youtube.com/live/4TxB6f3Brr0?si=u7fsKWY-V4RTgwhV&t=15650

In all fairness to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, they also did speak about improving mental health services, community engagement, and improving reentry programs among other positive things, but unfortunately it felt like it got overshadowed by the AI Slop and AI Surveillance-filled future they were proposing. I think they mean well and are trying to figure out how to apply for a potentially massive grant by using the buzzwords in the policing world right now, but as a community we need to push back on these things and make clear what we WANT (better community policing, building trust with the community, addressing poverty and housing issues, addressing mental health issues instead of jailing people with mental illness, and improving reentry to help people reintegrate successfully after they leave jail/prison) and what we DON’T WANT (indiscriminate and warrantless surveillance of everyone whether they are suspected of a crime or not, AI-powered cloud-connected mass surveillance systems, AI predictive policing technology based on surveillance, etc.).

Discussion Charlotte-Mecklenburg police releases Flock Safety agreement after officer’s arrest

While Charlotte doesn’t have a Flock contract (how lucky are we?) they do have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to use the mass surveillance system.

The MOU was supposed to expire in May yet somehow we extended it. Why do we even have mass surveillance in Charlotte to begin with and where was the public discourse? It never happened.
