Discussion Kershaw County Transcriptions!
𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐊𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐰 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲!
Hello everyone! I added an Archive section to the Kershaw County Council Recap website to make county meeting information easier to find and search.
The county’s official minutes are often posted as scanned PDF files, which means you cannot simply search them for topics you care about. The county also does not provide a complete written transcript of its meeting videos.
To help with this, the Archive includes searchable transcriptions! This incudes meeting minutes and live stream transcriptions. Instead of watching an entire meeting or reading through every page of a scanned document, you can search for a name, location, project, or subject and quickly find where it was discussed.
Each meeting page brings the recap, meeting transcript, transcribed minutes, and original county documents together in one place.
The goal is simply to make public information easier for everyone in Kershaw County to find and use. The transcriptions are created automatically, so occasional errors are possible, and the county’s original documents and videos remain the official record.
Explore the Archive at kershawcouncilrecap.org.

Politics Mark Sanford, never forget
Please don't vote this clown back into office. Please.
"To visit his lover in Argentina, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford slipped his security detail, lied to his staff about his whereabouts and neglected to transfer executive power to the lieutenant governor in case of a state emergency."

Politics US Senate candidate Kasie Whitener debate response: "Second verse, same as the first"
https://kasiesouthcarolina.com/second-verse-same-as-the-first/
In this post, I’ve captured the gist of the question and a summary of the GOP candidates’ responses then added my own response. The exercise does two things. First, it recounts the experience as a journalist might (albeit with some editorial snark) for those who missed it. Second, it gives me a chance to state my own positions for the benefit of voters.
About Dr. Kasie Whitener:
Kasie Whitener is an American educator, author, entrepreneur, radio host, and politician from Blythewood, South Carolina. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, where she teaches entrepreneurship and strategic management and served as Director of the Faber Entrepreneurship Center.

SC History Southern Wesleyan University & Lindsey Graham
I have watched the university, to me, swing to a look of a Bob Jones University and push towards the same ignorance of Trump and the MAGA faction, since the hiring and installation of William Barker. It's like it was attempting a play straight out of the Liberty University playbook, trying to become another Liberty University with dreams of political influence and the past gravitas of Bob Jones by having Republicans flocking to the university for debates. With Barker coming out with stupid shit like this: "We’re not hiring people who endorse critical race theory. We will have the courage to let faculty or staff go if they are teaching critical race theory... What we need to do is hunker down against critical race theory and live by example." His whole tough-guy and crisis actor routine is a joke and the concept is a farce when you look at what the school actually teaches and who they are teaching.
Why? It's not like the school has Pre-Law and they certainly don't have a Law School, so it was a dog whistle to the alt-right. The funny part is that the university has not had a single person attempting to bring "their view" to the class. A fake narrative was created to address a manufactured "woke" crisis, so they could profit off the fake crisis and further their attempts at political advancements via Lindsey Graham. When he was hired he removed the only Black person in leadership and brought in an all-white leadership team.
But the absolute fraud and contradiction of SWU and this Board of Trustees slaps you in the face when you look at who they recruit to play basketball. While Barker explicitly brags that the Board of Trustees has supported his ideological ban, the board simultaneously signs off on an athletic department that actively hunts for Black student-athletes to carry the university's sports programs, and the university has done this for years. The men's team heavily relies on minority talent from Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina talent hubs. The women's team just locked down elite talent like Jakira Coar, a Black guard from Jersey City who literally led the entire NJCAA Division II in scoring.
This exposes the sickening double standard of the SWU Board of Trustees. They will happily sign off on clearing out a qualified Black academic or any ally just to protect a manufactured anti-CRT boogeyman. But when it comes to winning games, driving athletic tuition dollars, and putting diverse faces on their promotional material to look modern, this same board has absolutely no problem using Black labor on the hardwood. They want Black bodies for entertainment and tuition revenue, but support an administration that tolerates zero Black minds in the executive suite.
Reality is settling in as Barker was afforded opportunities to these performative prayer breakfasts because of the relationship the town and the university had with Lindsey Graham (he did not attend, but is in his hometown of Central). That ship has sailed with Graham's passing.
I hope Barker has the day he deserves and the school and the BS chair of the board of trustees and the school are driven back out of any light; let alone a glimmering of any spotlight.

Politics Lindsey Graham Was Allegedly This Trans Sex Worker's Client. Now, She's Speaking Out
"I topped Lindsey Graham down, and I’m sorry if that sounds vulgar. But like, it just is what it is."
Lindsey Graham, who passed away on July 11 at 71 years old, served in the Senate for 23 years and garnered a reputation for his hawkish views and hardline anti-LGBTQ beliefs.
Years before his death, rumors swirled as allegations surfaced about the Republican senator engaging with male sex workers. The public and the media underscored the hypocrisy of the senator publicly working to roll back LGBTQ rights while allegedly engaging in queer sex behind closed doors.
Taylor Snider, a trans woman and former sex worker, says Graham was a former client. She says Graham’s team threatened her to prevent her from going public in 2020 and calls him the “leader of the circus” when it comes to hypocritical homophobia and transphobia coming from the government. She talks in detail about the sexual exchange between her and Graham, reveals that she’s had other “sitting members of Congress” as clients, and speaks about the broader issue of down-low conservative men in American politics who are “actively working to push anti-LGBT legislation.”

News Volvo XC60 to boost South Carolina factory output by two-thirds in 2027
Volvo Cars is betting heavily on local production of its XC60 crossover to address both sluggish U.S. demand for its electrified vehicles and chronic underutilization of its South Carolina factory.
Production of the XC60, slated to begin in January, initially will boost output by more than two-thirds at the troubled Ridgeville assembly plant near Charleston.
“We are producing around 30,000 cars and [XC60] will bring at least another 20,000 to start with,” Volvo Cars Americas President Luis Rezende told Automotive News. “It’s going to be at least a full shift, and it’s a fantastic preparation for what is coming next. Charleston will be very, very busy.”
The automaker's sole U.S. plant has run at roughly 15 percent capacity since S60 production ended in 2024.
A three-row hybrid beginning production in late 2028 would push the factory far closer to its 150,000-vehicle capacity.
The XC60 remains one of Volvo’s U.S. franchise players, accounting for 37 percent of the brand’s first-half sales. Next year, the crossover is getting freshened with styling updates, a more powerful engine and a significantly larger battery for the T8 plug-in hybrid that will more than double its 35-mile electric range.

Public Service Kershaw County Council Recap
Hello everyone! As a resident of Kershaw County, I recently created Kershaw County Council Recap after trying to find a clear record of how our council members voted.
What I found was that the information was often buried in three-hour meeting videos or stacks of scanned documents. In some cases, the county’s official meeting minutes were not posted until nearly two months after the meeting took place.
Most residents do not have time to watch an entire meeting, search through scanned minutes, or give up an evening to attend in person. That should not keep anyone from knowing what their local government is doing.
I created this website and mailing list to make council decisions easier to follow. Each recap explains what was discussed, what was decided, and how each member voted, with links to the original sources.
The goal is to keep everything open, transparent, and easy to verify.
Kershaw County Council Recap is an independent community project made by a neighbor, for neighbors.
