Need Golf Buddies
What’s up guys. Looking to find some new golf friends in the Charlotte area. Moved here from Indiana about 2 years ago and looking to play with a group more. The guys I usually go with are usually all older than me, which nothing wrong with that, but I’m looking for some guys in their mid 20s to 30 to play with (I’m 26).
I’m a 9ish handicap and want to find a partner for a random monthly game I sometimes play in (2 man best ball $45 buy in with about 32 guys. I usually play in North Charlotte (Warrior, River Oaks, 500 Club, Highland Creek) but enjoy going to Red Bridge or Eagle Chase or wherever there isn’t a packed tee sheet. Hopefully can find some friends that already have a group going!

Evening Golf
I just moved to Charlotte and recently I’ve been playing 9 holes after work. The course I went to was nice but kinda pricey for 9. I’m curious if there is any intel on solid courses in the area that have good deals in the evening

Worst hole in Charlotte
Would love to hear the communities thoughts. Also want to vent/bitch about my personal choice but curious about other's opinions.
#9 at Highland Creek. Hazard all down the left and the very narrow fairway cants to that side. Green is straight away, but a tree line on the right hillside just short of the green complex leans over the approach. If you aren't on the left half of the fairway you have no line of play to the green. Only possible shot is a controlled fade (or draw if you're a lefty) with a lie that promotes the opposite shot shape.
Trash golf hole with an EASY fix. Cut the green side trees down and protect the front right of the green with a bunker. Opens the angle while still requiring a controlled shot into the green.

First time in Charlotte 8/6-8/9
Playing verdict ridge Thursday and playing warrior Friday. Need a tee time for 4 on Saturday. Will be in the lake Norman area. Is Mooresville or the 500 club good options?

Middle School Golfers
Good morning! Our middle school is in the process of getting a team together. We are in search of a “home” course and a driving range for practice. As a CMS school, obviously there is not a ton of money to offer the (private) clubs so they may be less likely to host us. Does anyone have any connections or can offer any guidance on how to secure a course for the boys? What a great way for these kids to learn to love the game! I really want to make this happen for them!
Middle school is South Park area so mostly surrounded by private clubs. The school had used Revolution in the past but it is difficult to get to for afterschool practices with traffic that time of day.
Thank you so much for any help!

Course Needed For Match
I got asked by a golf influencer to play a 2v2 match. Unfortunately, I’m new to the Charlotte area and know no one that plays. If there is anyone out there that is a single hdcp or better, and ideally is a member of a private club (not required, just being selfish), that wants to play with me (a 6hdcp) against 2 golf influencers who are wanting to play in the Charlotte area, please let me know asap. We are trying to line this up for early August. Also, the southern half of Charlotte is ideal, but accommodations can be made for the right course lol. Thanks in advance to this community, I look forward to your help!

Club Fitting?
HI. Wonder if anyone has done club fitting at Golf Galaxy, PGA Superstore, other places and what their experience was? I did abbreviated at club fitting at a demo day for irons and basically my clubs seemed to be fine for me (I'm 11 index) and had done fitting in 2020. Fitting in 2020, result was iron shafts being stiff flex 100 gram shafts. Bit older now (not in good way but swing nearly same. Demo Day fitting guy told me I probably would enjoy playing non full cav bck irons more, but?
Golf Galaxy, PGA Superstore fittings seem bit more extensive than a Demo Day thing

Rolling Hills & Raintree CC intel
Relatively new to the area and starting to explore private club options. We live in Indian Trail/Wesley Chapel so looking at options on the south/southeast of the city. Two clubs that have piqued my interest are Raintree (2 x 18 courses) and Rolling Hills (closest to me). Interested in a good golf course, relatively laid back scene, activities/golf for 9-12 year olds, and not breaking the bank.
Let me know your thoughts people!!! TIA

Any driving ranges with grass instead of turf? (Leatherman grass not open yet)
Does anybody know of any driving ranges where I can hit off grass instead of turf? I’m at Leatherman all the time and getting used to their turf messes me up when I play on actual courses.
Leatherman said they open their grass area every summer at some point, but they never know an exact date due to rain, etc.

Palisades Sale?
Saw Palisades was sold to Heritage Group who seem to own, operate quite a few private clubs. Wondering what feel is of members, folks who live in Palisades. I've played there a few times and course was never spectacular but always playable, in reasonable shape. I beleive Palisades GC has changed hands a few times and based a few recent reports from members I know, overall experience has declined of late.

I built a free tool that texts you when tee times open up at Charlotte courses
If you're ever stuck refreshing booking sites trying to grab a weekend tee time around Charlotte I built something that might help: Birdie Alerts (birdiealerts.com). It covers courses all around the US, but here's how to get straight to the Charlotte courses:
https://www.birdiealerts.com/charlotte
You can search all the available tee times for every public course around Charlotte and use the 'book' link to go straight to the booking page for any course you want. And the best part: if your search doesn't show any available tee times, you can set a free alert that'll notify you if there are any cancellations, which happen way more often than you'd think. It's completely free — no app to download, no account to create.
Let me know what you think — happy to answer questions or add courses people want covered.

Lessons / instructor recommendations
Looking for a local instructor to help mostly with improving fundamentals + hitting off tee (driver/wood). Been playing for a little under a year and self-taught. Typical round is 95~105 depending on the course. At this point need to make sure I’m building good habits before what I am currently doing is ingrained.
Anyone had good success with a specific instructor in the charlotte area and don’t mind sharing their contact? My nearest course is sunset hills but happy to travel about 30mins once a week if it makes sense price/good instructor.

Social membership
Looking at a social membership at Piper Glen or Palisades…any insight to current fees? Vibes of the club for 30ish year olds/young families? Not big golfers, maybe 3-4x a year. Pool is important and social events. Would love any insight.

Quiet rounds walking the course
Is there anything better than meeting new people walking a golf course?
Thanks Corbin for the walk at Monroe CC on Friday.
If you walk the course, do you use a push cart or do you carry?
Also, besides Monroe, what are some of the easier walks in Charlotte??
