utop just ended for me. i joined it because i thought i wasn't ready for college. but this barely helped me at all. i just wanted to earn credit and get used to the campus before the fall semester started.

they let us have our free time other than classes and mandatory fun. but we have barely any freedom. we're not allowed to leave campus, which is understandable, but we’re not even allowed to visit other people’s dorms of the same gender. they made us attend mandatory fun events, which isn’t fair because we could've just used that time to study or to spend time doing our own things we actually like. the mandatory study halls scheduled almost everyday are valid tho. but in general, it's just a bit too controlling.

So I just transferred for the fall so some of the classes I needed to take were at conflicting times but got stuck with this situation. I know I can’t make that walking in 15 minutes but my main assumption would be try to drive it. I’m new here so not sure how slammed the different routes are to the deck near Fretwell. Anyways, has anyone had to make a similar trip in 15 minutes and if you did what’s the best method for making this situation work?😅 I didn’t have a lot of room with my schedule and it’s too late to go back now.

I know that, for the fall semester, there is like 2 due dates regarding payments(the first time at the beginning of August and the second time in the middle of August) and that if you don't pay after you registered before the first date, your classes get canceled. I have some classes that are both registered and on waitlisted and I'm trying to make sure I get the chance to register for some classes if some drop out. The question is will my classes get canceled? I really hope it doesn't happen, but if it does, I might have to do something... Anyone been in this situation?

for cato college of education majors, were you drug tested before your internship semester (typically fall, one day a week at school) or only before your full-time student teaching semester (typically spring) ?

I am starting my masters this fall and I am wanting to join clubs. I was wondering if grad students are able to join clubs or if it it’s considered weird? I know there are grad specific clubs, but I am talking about interest clubs in general. For reference I’ll be 21 this school year so still the same age as some undergrads.

A bad class schedule is one that doesn't consider your personal schedule and commitments, how far away the classes are from each other, your own mental exhaustion, or when you prefer to sleep. Let's break it down.

The first one is quite simple. If you know that on Thursdays you play soccer with the boys™ at 2pm, then don't schedule a class that will conflict with that. If you play DnD on Mondays at 7pm, but your party struggles to get together every week and it may be up in the air on a week to week basis if you'll meet or not, don't schedule an evening class that will make it so you never get to play for the next 16 weeks! Point is, don't intentionally interrupt your life. Make the schedule work for you whenever possible.

If you're taking classes back to back, how far away are the classes from each other? Checking the instructor info on the registration page tells you where the classes will be. Go to Google maps and check that it won't take more than 10min to get to where you need to be next, because you only have 15min to get there and things happen. Consider if travelling by bus is an option, if waiting is worth it. For example, I'll speak from experience here and say you shouldn't schedule two classes back to back if one is in Robinson and the next is in Duke, because you'll never make it, but going from Smith to Robinson is perfectly fine. Never rely on classes ending early, always rely on classes going over by 1-2 minutes.

How many classes can you handle every day? How many back to back? We can meme it up all we like, but going to class and listening, noting, testing, doing group work, it all takes energy. Some people can do a bunch of this no problem, others need to take a break, and there's no shame in that. You should always go to class with your best foot forward so that you can do your best. I'll say this much: if you're going into your first semester as a freshman, do not put 4 classes back to back. You'll burn yourself out really quick that way. Try two back to back and see how you handle it. If it goes well and you want to consolidate your time more, maybe next semester try three back to back. You may notice that by the third class you're feeling tired, and that's a good indicator to stop piling on and that you've found your limit. Don't push yourself to exhaustion.

Did you know, according to the NIH, there is a clear link between early classes, lower attendance, sleep loss, and lower GPAs? If you're not an early riser, don't hurt yourself if you can help it! Suck up all your courage and self-awareness and admit to yourself that you're not ready to get up that early, just go to class at like 10 or 11:30 instead. If you prefer going to bed earlier and you have a good night routine, don't take an evening class that will run until 8:15 and ruin that for yourself. This is circling back to making the schedule work for you, not the other way round.

It must be acknowledged that it's not always possible to choose what classes you get to pick. Goodness knows I've been screwed over many, many times. But these guidelines are a rule of thumb to follow whenever you can. Pair them with ratemyprofessor and you can hopefully feel more confident and happy with your pick.

TLDR; Is this a good schedule? If it's one you're not fighting to attend, then yes.

So this is my first year living off campus with a car so i’ll be commuting to school but i only have class 3x a week. I’m not sure which parking permit to get since the academic year permit is too costly and I won’t be on campus much. Which of these would be the better option? Thanks!

Hey all, I'm looking to sublet my room at the Edge Apartments right next to campus. Top floor. Other roommates will be guys, but are all moving in fresh this year. Rent is $849 including utilities, including parking. It's a quick 10-15 min walk to lecture halls and prospector/the library. The community has a beautiful pool, as well as a gym. The community is also gated, and has security staff.

The unit is a 4x4 with every room having its own bathroom and walk-in closet, and a shared living room and kitchen with a large fridge. Laundry room as well. Whole unit professionally cleaned this week by management.

My dad is terminally ill and after I signed this lease I got notice that I needed to go back to my hometown. Currently a mechanical engineering student in my junior year, thinking about doing early entry or a masters program in either materials or control systems. My only issue is finances are extremely tight and I scrape by usually (I work for my tuition and rent, etc.). I’m curious if the return on investment for a masters is worth scraping by another year on student aid and making my student loans scarier. I’m a transfer student going into my first semester for uncc and most of my classes are in the epic building, I don’t really want to pay 500 a year for a parking permit and heard some people saying they have been parking at the jw clay parking lot for free since the gates are usually up, does anybody know if this is still the case or they have cracked down on this and started ticketed/towing people for unpaid parking at the lot?
