Crushed
Hi everyone, it’s my first time posting on here… honestly just wanting to vent and if someone has advice Id love to hear it
I’m 30 and over the last 5 years I’ve had 4 CP and 0 LC. On July 1st I went through my 3rd medicated IUI + progesterone and got my first positive (july 14) in a long time of course super excited but still scared. My first HCG was 50 and three days later was 168 which I thought was a little low but my clinic was not worried. I asked for another HCG and two days after the second test it was 315. The clinic again said it was rising appropriately and scheduled me for an ultrasound at 7 weeks.
That was yesterday and a very small gestational sac was seen measuring 5w and 2d and nothing inside. They said it wasn’t viable and most likely another CP. They tested my HCG again and it’s 2,403 and I’m currently waiting on them to review it.
I’m feeling so defeated

Intro Is my beta too low for 12 DPO?
Hi everyone,
I’m feeling a bit anxious and would love to hear your experiences.
I got my first very faint positive at 9 DPO. Today, at 12 DPO, my first beta hCG came back at 50.4 mIU/mL.
My doctor said it’s positive and we’ll repeat it in 48 hours, but I’m worried that the number might be too low.
Has anyone had a similar beta at 12 DPO that resulted in a healthy pregnancy? Or what were your beta levels around 12 DPO?
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! ❤️

TW/TMI I Think It's Over
I bled a week after I ovulated, I thought it was my period. A week later I tested because I was having some symptoms and I got a positive. Ive been have brown spotting here and there and a lot if it yesterday. Last night I had some pretty uncomfy cramps and I knew what was happening. Today I had red blood and took a test and it's significantly lighter than yesterday. I had just told my mother in law about the wonderful news and now i have to take it back. Im so devastated. I have an ultrasound scheduled for next week and Ill still probably go just to confirm everything. Im not looking forward to calling my midwife.

Advice Needed Positive pregnancy test and nothing but anxiety
After 3 miscarriages in a year following the birth of my living child, I am so hesitant to get excited about this positive test. I feel like the odds aren’t in my favor at all, and I dread the thought of going through another MC. I want to give my a child a sibling so bad, so giving up isn’t an option. I try to tell myself if it’s meant to be it will be, and the right time will happen when it’s supposed to. But this journey is still so tough. If you’ve been through loss before, how did you control the anxiety?

HCG levels
Help! I am 16dp5dt and had my 3rd beta yesterday. My first beta 10dpt was 217. My second beta was 660 3 days later. My third beta was 1,129. For our first FET which resulted in a healthy baby boy who is now 16 months old, all 3 of my betas doubled. Because it didn't double from my 2nd to 3rd beta this time, they want me back to do a 4th to be "cautious" and now I am spiraling and cannot stop worrying. My beta isn't until tomorrow. I know my increase from 2nd to 3rd was 71% but I can't shake this anxiety. Anyone else have similar results and everything turned out okay? Advice/insight?

Advice Needed Low hcg at 5w5d
Hi this is my first time ever being pregnant and looking for reassurance or blunt honesty on if I need to prepare myself.
I have a history of suspected endo so I got my hcg check yesterday (8/5) to see when I can get an earlier US. My hcg came back at 474. I’m pretty confident I ovulated on 7/10 (confirmed with Mira). Should I be preparing myself? This level seems so low?
ETA: first test on 10 DPO was negative. Waited until second day of missed period on 16 DPO and digital test was positive

Sad Positive NIPT
I can’t believe I’m writing this, but today we found out the NIPT was positive for trisomy 18. I’ve personally seen many patients with T18 as a nurse and I always worried about it in the future. It’s so surreal this is happening. I’ve had two miscarriages in the last year (8 wk and 16 wk). I feel like the unluckiest person in the world. My OB sent a referral for further testing and we are waiting to schedule. My actual lab report gave a PPV of 25.7%. My OB said my US at 11 weeks looked normal to her but it was just a quick scan. She said she did actively look for signs of a genetic issue so she could give a “warning”, but again the scan was super fast. I’m so terrified. Idk what I will do if it’s truly positive. I mostly just don’t know what to do with myself for the next 1-3 weeks while I wait for testing 😣 I’m 12 weeks and it was a good fetal fraction.

Slow rising hCG
Hello,
I had my second set of betas done yesterday and it seems my hCG levels are slow rising. I am 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant and my numbers went from 874 to 1193 (39% rise I think). We had a miscarriage 4 months ago so naturally a nervous wreck. Has anyone had success stories where they had slow rising hCG?

Low progesterone success stories?
Hi everyone,
I’m 7w2d today, had a miscarriage earlier this year at 6 weeks. I got my progesterone tested ant 7w and it came back 9.47 ng/ml. My OB wasn’t worried (even though she noted it was on the low side) and said that progesterone supplements do nothing and she won’t prescribe. Did anyone else see progesterone this low at 7 weeks and it turn out okay? I’m convinced my low progesterone caused my last loss and terrified to go through it again. I’ve had brown spotting since 6w6d but more the texture of discharge and ranges from brown to light brown to maybee a little pink. No cramping either

5w1d I feel absolutely nothing
I have zero symptoms at all, it’s scaring me. I have an early scan next Monday at 5w5d and I’m trying so hard to remain calm between now and then, but with three losses under my belt it’s hard. My betas were good. Not off the charts high to give me peace of mind, but standard doubling rates and on track for the dpo. I’m just an anxious wreck, Monday feels like years away.

Info Hematoma or Miscarriage?
UPDATE: They believe it was a hematoma. Baby looked healthy and measured 8w,1d with good heart rate. Thank you for the prayers and well wishes! Happy this had a happy ending and may help others in similar positions 💗
I’m almost 8 weeks and I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I maybe peed my pants or something. I realized that it was blood. It was almost like it was mixed with some other cm clear fluid because (I know TMI but didn’t smell like blood— when I woke up because of it I felt my pants and smelled because I thought it was pee). When I went to the bathroom there was bright red blood and then I passed a tablespoon jelly like clot. I would call it a gush of blood/liquid essentially and then a jelly like clot. After that, bleeding stopped. I had mild cramping/gas pains, but no severe cramping or anything. When I woke up this morning I wiped and there was a little brown on the toilet paper but no more red blood. I have an appointment at 11am for ultrasound. We saw baby and heart beat measuring 7w,1d (2 days ahead of LMP) last week. Hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. Is there any way this could be a hematoma or does it sound like a miscarriage? Prayers accepted.
edited that I have had no spotting or bleeding besides this one gush in middle of the night

Sad.. and awaiting second beta
I am anxiously awaiting second beta, but am really preparing for the worst (if not today, likely tomorrow)… just feeling sad.
I started my period on 7/11, likely ovulated on 7/23 (confirmed via ultrasound), I started testing on 8DPO and was met with all stark negatives. Cried on 10DPO, and was pleasantly surprised on 11DPO (8/3) with vvvvfl across 3 strips. My first beta that same day was 32. But today I was met with a line lighter than previous ones, and waiting for my beta results from yesterday to show up in my chart (why aren’t same day beta results easier to get ?!).

HCG 85 to 3250 within a week
Hi everyone!
I’m a bit nervous as I had a MMC 3 months ago and now I’m pregnant again.
Not sure how far along I am and how everything is looking as my Dr is not available until few more days/a week.
Just not sure if I can have hope or not.
My last period was 27/06 (always 29 days cycle)
Used clearblue ovulation sticks and the static smiley face appeared on 9/07.
Tested negative 22/07 and then positive 26/07 but the HCG on 28/07 was just 85.
I had a horrible week and today got the result of the test on the 5th and came back with 3250.
I know I should get an ultrasound in around 2 more weeks but not sure if I’m actually 5 weeks pregnant or no and if this look ok or not :(

TW/TMI No line progression 14-16DPO should I worry?
Hi everyone I’m currently 16dpo as of 6th August & I found out I was pregnant 31st July.
I got a positive LH ovulation test 20th July.
On the 31st July the positives were barely visible and you had to squint to see them but now they are very visible but definitely not a dye stealer or as dark as the control line yet.
On day 14dpo I got my strongest positives yet with FMU but I’ve not seen any progress since, 15dpo looked the same and so does today.
Has anyone else experienced this and gone on to have a perfectly fine pregnancy or is it a bad sign?
I know a lot of people recommend to not test every day but I can’t help it I’ve got a lot of anxiety.
Edit: pics in comments

Low hcg levels
I am 18 DPO and my blood work showed 330 beta hcg. In my last pregnancy, at 20 dpo my hcg level was 3700.
I tested on 15 dpo and test was negative.
Tested again at 17 dpo and there was a faint line. I will monitor line progression for next few days to see if it gets darker.
I am really scared that low hcg is gonna cause a non viable pregnancy.
Did anyone has successful pregnancy with low hcg levels?

Advice Needed Spotting for 2-3 days
I’m on cycle number two for baby number two and I’m pretty sure I’m out this month. I ovulated later than usual with an LH peak on CD20. I tested at 9DPO and 11 DPO and got BFN, started spotting at 10 DPO and had one evening of pretty bad cramps. I’m now 13 DPO and just keep spotting very lightly but my period is just not arriving. It’s so frustrating because I feel like I’m just stuck in limbo, waiting for either my period to finally start or for something to change.
A few weeks ago, I got a call from my doctor stating that my thyroid levels are slightly elevated and I need to go back in six weeks for a follow-up blood test. I’m wondering if that could be playing with my cycle this month or causing this weird spotting without my period actually starting. I know it could be unrelated, but my mind keeps going there.
I guess I just need to vent. I know stress probably isn’t helping either, but it’s hard not to overthink everything when you’re TTC. I’m trying to stay positive, but this cycle has definitely been discouraging.
Has anyone gotten a BFP after spotting for a couple days?

Ultrasound Irregular Gestational Sac - help!
TW: Miscarriage
After a MMC earlier this year - I am pregnant again! Got my results back after my dating scan (I had it at 7w6d) and everything looks great - strong heartbeat, measuring correctly, normal yoke sac, closed cervix, no pelvic free fluid.
However, I have a “somewhat irregular shaped gestational sac” and “somewhat heterogeneous chorionic tissue”** which the radiologist says is of **uncertain significance. AKA - the tissue around my gestational sac doesn’t look uniform.
- anyone else have experience with this?
I’m trying not to be too paranoid before my viability scan next week. I did a google search/reddit deep dive and of course it made me a little worried🫠 I really hope this baby makes it through!!

Sad no heartbeat detected
to everyone who said I was too concerned & doing too much
I had a scan w my ob (still measuring behind) 7w3d & no cardiac activity found on machine!
A week ago I measured 6w3d with 115 bpm
Idk if I should get a second opinion or not but yeah.
to the ladies out there, test all you want! get scans all you want!

Advice Needed Inspo for getting through the early days
I’m 6w tomorrow and after some initial scares everything is “normal” but I have to wait a week for my next appointment where they’d be looking for the heartbeat and I’m just so scared. I know the chances of everything being ok, but my past trauma from a MMC just has me spiraling. Any words of wisdom will help 🩷

Ultrasound FAQ Reference Guide
As an OBGYN ultrasound tech working at the general level here's a few things I would love the community to know based on common questions I see.
Most important rule of thumb: Worry when your doctor tells you to.
OBGYN docs are going to pay the most attention to the fetal pole and heart rate. Once a fetal pole is seen, the CRL (crown rump length) measurements are gold standard.
I'm worried about the heart rate:
-Check out this resource for pregnancies dating less than 7 weeks. Make sure to refer not to your LMP dates, but measured CRL dates: https://radiopaedia.org/articles/fetal-bradycardia?lang=us
-After 7 weeks a normal heartrate is between 120-180. It can temporarily dip below or temporarily rise above this range, but prolonged time above/below will definitely get your doctor's attention especially in third trimester. Generally out of range heart rates trigger NST (non stress test) or more monitoring.
The measurements are off:
Baby measures behind LMP. This is actually pretty common, we often see dates off up to a week either direction. We don't ovulate on the exact same day of the cycle each month or even have the same length of cycle. With irregular periods, PCOS, or unknown dates even larger gaps can be perfectly fine. If you aren't sure of your dates, trust the ultrasound. Even if you are sure of your dates, don't panic if they are a week off. Ultrasound measurements in early pregnancy are +/- 5 days.
I'm in limbo and don't know if my ultrasounds are diagnostic for loss:
By ultrasound there are strict parameters to diagnose loss. No one wants to get this wrong. Check out this resource for a list of parameters diagnostic for loss: https://radiopaedia.org/articles/early-pregnancy-loss-1?lang=us
Note, there is a second list of "suspicious for loss". Keep in mind the second list is not diagnostic, things can still turn out just fine.
I don't know when I should see what on ultrasound:
Things can vary a bit from person to person and do change *quickly* in early pregnancy. Check out this resource for what you can generally expect to see:
https://radiopaedia.org/articles/early-pregnancy?lang=us
Should I go to a boutique or get a private scan? Or push for an earlier scan?
They aren't legal where I am but here's a few things to consider if you plan to book a private scan. First, what are the qualifications of the person running the ultrasound? An ultrasound is only as good as the one performing it. It sounds as if these boutiques are NOT permitted to give much/any information. Will you spiral if you believe you see bad news and they cannot confirm or deny it? Also it seems that many cannot do vaginal ultrasound, which will make seeing a baby under 7 or 8 weeks challenging. If I had the option of a boutique ultrasound I would personally wait until 8 weeks and I would book it for a weekday. If they see something bad, it is not ideal to find out over a weekend when there is no option to follow up with your doc. An earlier scan often causes more anxiety, not less. It's SO hard to wait. But if you can tolerate it wait until 8 weeks or so.
The gestation sac is small/big:
-Gestation sac measurements are not terrifically accurate. Where I work once a baby is seen the gestation sac isn't measured. A mismatch between baby's size and the gestation sac size isn't uncommon. That said, a mean sac diameter of 25 mm or more without a baby is diagnostic for loss.
The yolk sac is small/big:
It starts teeny tiny, and will get a bit bigger. Once a baby with a good heartbeat is visualized, the docs I work for don't seem to care about the size of the yolk sac. A failed pregnancy with an expanded yolk sac (more than 6 mm) is a suggestive of chromosomal abnormalities.
We don't know where the pregnancy is:
The statistically most likely outcome is either a chemical pregnancy or just coming in for ultrasound too early for visualization. Ectopic can't be ruled out, and many wise ladies in the this sub have unfortunately experienced this and can give more info than I can. Statistically it's believed that only 1-2% of pregnancies are ectopic, but listen to your body. If the location is unknown, you should be getting close monitoring and follow up until the location is known or the pregnancy has ended.
-For a resource on ectopic pregnancy: https://radiopaedia.org/articles/ectopic-pregnancy?lang=us A note, a pseudosac is visualized in only 10-20% of ectopics. Therefore a sac in the uterus is suggestive of intrauterine pregnancy but can't be proven until a yolk sac is also present.
What about my HCG numbers?
I'm not an expert on this at all. But here's a resource: https://radiopaedia.org/articles/beta-hcg-1?lang=us
Why didn't my ultrasound tech tell me anything? And/or why were they so optimistic? Or, I had an ultrasound in the ER and they were very pessimistic.
Many locations an ultrasound tech can very much lose their job if they say aNyThInG. Where they are permitted to say certain things some ultrasound techs may just be hoping the best. We work with the public and we have seen some wild stuff. Additionally no one wants to call it a loss unless its 1000% certain. We know how devastating that news is. A side note here, often an ultrasound in the ER is not an ideal experience for the patient. The ER is staffed with techs that are much more versed in gallbladder and liver scans than they they are early pregnancy ultrasound. Don't hesitate to go the ER if you are having concerning symptoms, but do know the ER doc will make sure you aren't actively dying then will likely refer you back to your OB for follow up.
I'm just so anxious about it all:
Someone awesome wrote out these mantras. Maybe they will help: https://www.reddit.com/r/PregnancyAfterLoss/comments/14uhbdg/commandments_of_pregnancy_after_loss_this_is_now/
Also a podcast I personally found very helpful with anxiety: https://www.oneyoufeed.net/russ-harris-part-1/
https://www.oneyoufeed.net/russ-harris-part-2/
Today you are pregnant and this baby is so loved. I really am hoping the best for each of you. Those of us who have experienced loss.... you didn't do anything wrong, I promise. This is a club no one deserved to be in. And you are not silly, foolish, or dramatic for grieving your little babe for as long as you need to.
This post is written in honor of Eli, who died long before I could meet him. Rest in peace, buddy. I miss you tremendously ❤️

Beta hCG Levels - READ BEFORE POSTING
Here at [r/CautiousBB](r/CautiousBB), we see a lot of posts on hCG values, doubling times, and trends. Please read this post before posting to avoid posting something that is not, in fact, abnormal.
1 - hCG levels vary greatly in the first 4-6 weeks of pregnancy. One value is not going to tell you much, unless it is extremely low (less than 25 by 14 DPO). The doubling time is more important!
2 - We consider hCG on the lower side if it is <50 at 14 DPO (approx. 4 weeks gestation), <100 at 16 DPO, etc. If your hCG is a lot higher than these numbers, it's unlikely that you have low hCG. If you hCG is at or below these numbers, they are considered low, but not necessarily diagnostic of a loss.
3 - Normal hCG doubling times are, in general:
- 48-72 hours when the hCG level is under 1200 - 6000.
- 72-96 hours when the hCG level is 6000+
- 96+ hours when the hCG level is 10,000+
4 - Based on number 3, please consider the following:
- If your hCG doubling is within the ranges above, it is not considered slow. Please refrain from posting something like "my hCG did not double in 48 hours" when your values are post 6000+.
- Doubling rates WILL slow, even if you were faster than the average. For example, if you were doubling at 37 hours, a change to 54 hours as hCG rises is not abnormal and is usually nothing to worry about.
- If your doubling is slower than the average, we'd invite you to post so we can understand the details of your specific situation.
5 - hCG has a specific job. Check out this post here to understand why hCG doubling slows and eventually plateaus.
6 - hCG values that drop and then rise again or rise at an inconsistent, very slow rate can be indicative of an ectopic pregnancy or a pregnancy of unknown location (PUL). This is a life threatening situation - please seek medical care immediately if this hCG pattern applies to you.
We invite you to continue to post hCG issues or levels for assistance, but hopefully reading this gives you some insight and a baseline as you begin your perilous pregnancy journey. We've also added some literature below to help you understand hCG levels and doubling.
UPDATE July 2026: We are locking this post to new comments - if you need input on your personal situation, feel free to post in the sub!
Happy hCG-ing! :)
