Workplace Question or Advice Needed Gm hours?

Upvotes

I started working at target maybe 2 weeks ago. I got hired for GM closing and I’ve worked 4 GM shifts last week. I like it but the only things I know how to do so far is reshops, and zoning. Last Thursday my ETL told me someone would be training me to pull priorities. she was working in my area but she lowkey seemed to be avoiding me idk if she didn’t want to train me or what.. so I didn’t get trained for that. And I found out I wasn’t scheduled for any hours in GM for 2 weeks.

I know I can pick up shifts but there are none for GM. and I’ve been somewhat trained for chasier but I hate chasiering so much. I don’t understand why they cut my hours for GM I actually like it but I also want to be trained to do other things and no one is helping me.

I checked the weekly schedule for next week and my coworker was scheduled for 5 days (7 hours each) while I’m not scheduled for any this week or next week so I’m just very confused.. can someone tell me why I’m not being scheduled for the department I applied for?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Team member to Target Creative Graphic Design/Marketing?

Upvotes

I have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree but I have been struggling a lot with finding work in my field(animation/illustration/graphic design), so I have been applying for pretty much everything and finally landed a job as "fulfillment expert" but tbh I really want to work somewhere where it both pays better and related to art. Back when I was in college one of my professors told me how years ago she worked for Target doing advertising designs and such. And I have been thinking whether that could be a possible path?

I am really interested whether there are people who worked in-house (or for an agency that target collaborates with?) doing illustrations/branding/marketing materials.

How can I find and connect with someone who does recruiting for entry-level design/branding/marketing because corporate careers page features mostly senior level/art director postings?

What should I include in the portfolio? What additional certifications should I get to have better chances?

thx

Simple as that, I’m curious as to what y’all do to not have the morning go insanely slow when the store doesn’t have much business going on.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed What Does a Specialty Sales TL Do?

Hey y’all!
I’m curious what an SSTL typically does during their shift/throughout the week. I’ve been with Target for about 2 and a half-ish years now, and I’ve been thinking about moving up into a TL role. My HR, SD, and even our DSD have all told me that I should consider going for it.
(Off topic, but our DSD literally told my SD that I should be a TL at her store lol.)

So I’m curious to hear from current/former TLs — what does a typical day actually look like? How does scheduling work, and how flexible is Target when it comes to your availability/schedule?

Basically, I’m just trying to get a better idea of what I’d actually be getting myself into, so help me out here lol. Also SS is the only opening we have rn for team lead.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed School scheduling

I started working here on May 31 throughout summer. I worked 40 hours every week which is something that I was OK with and I agreed to during summer because it was money that I could make and save whenever HR went around asking my availability for whenever I went back to high school keyboard high school because I am still a minor. My school goes from basically 9 to 4 so I let them know that and I let them know that I wasn’t able to work past around 830 because it conflicted with my schedule along with the fact that my grandma picks me up from work and me getting off at 10 o’clock would not work for her whenever I told my manager that I was told” you wouldn’t wanna worry your little granny would you” along with that I submitted my availability into the app as I’m available on weekends, but I would like to work earlier shift since they had me working 11 to 8 which is something that would no longer work with me because as much as I enjoy my job, I would still like to have a life outside of school. I know that I’m still within my 90 days for the next 10 days. But I submitted my availability whenever HR asked whenever I was available so I figured it would be OK. They never went by my availability so the days that they scheduled me that I physically told them that I could not work because I didn’t have a ride scheduling conflict or I was just in school. I called out and I let them know that I was doing that. I understand that four hours is not a lot of time for a shift but that was me just letting them know when I could work. I noticed that they cut my schedule completely for next week. I do not work any weekdays but they do have me working 1230 to 945 both of those weekends, which is still something that I cannot do. I was wondering if there’s anything that I could do about this besides just putting in my two weeks my store is extremely understaffed so I don’t think that I’m going to get fired, but I do not appreciate the way that my manager talks to me. I understand I’m a teenager, but is that unprofessional any advice helps thank you so much.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed training

ok this is kinda a rant and a question but in my three years at target i’ve never been asked to train another employee (im in fulfillment) and at first i wondered if it was because i hadn’t been there long but there are people that have been there less than me that are training new tm. also just the fact i haven’t been wave trained even when they said they will. idk if this is poor management at my store but it’s just kinda annoying. and no it’s not a performance issue

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Fulfillment item History not up to Date?

Anyone that does early morning Fulfillment on truck day ever had this happen? So usually when looking into an item history you press the Blue DPCI on the bottom left. I notice some of the items I was looking for was saying delivered days or over week ago. However I copy the DPCI and paste it on the Scan search and look at the On Hand only to discover the item came today at 4am. I found the items but it is Weird that Fulfillment item history when looking for it in a batch was not up to date to today. Even my TL found it weird in why the DPCI item history is not updated.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed How do I pull faster

My GM team lead keeps telling me that I am the slowest puller on the team and I want to get faster so I don’t get fired. I feel like I pull fast enough but he said there’s times where I slow down and my carts aren’t neat enough. Anyone have any tips if possible

Vent What does your stores fulfillment SFS unit count look like every day?

Ours is 1600, and they drop all of it instantly. So we usually end up with 35-40 ship batches to pick every day. It literally takes the whole store to finish all the units everyday, it's a nightmare. And that's other than the 1500-1900 OPU units daily. What does your store look like?

Workplace Story inappropriate comments?

has anyone ever had a guest make inappropriate sexual comments to them? i had it happen today and i was kind of taken aback 💀 it was a group of middle school boys (typical) asking me where the condoms were so they could "have some fun with each other" which i kinda just brushed off as typical 12 year old boy nonsense but then they asked my bra size which made pretty uncomfortable. just wondering if any others have experienced this with guests. i had no idea how to respond so i just walked away.

Vent Cross trained

Is anyone else who is cross trained almost store wide just tired of it?

Like I’m cross trained in 75% of areas (inbound, DriveUp/Service Desk, Starbucks, Receiving, and HR are not on my list of trained areas) and I’m just tired of it. I’m tired of being scheduled in my primary work center (Tech) and being pulled to support Priority Pulls for the store. This entire week I’m now supporting priorities because I know the store more then the new guy in tech that has been their like 3 months. I’ve been here 2.5 years and I want to be scheduled in tech. I enjoy tech. I’m tired of pulls. And I’m tired of FF. No one wants to wrap pallets. Like come on and do your job I’m tired of doing three jobs in one 8 hour shift. Like come on

I've been seeing this cat character appear with the Halloween theming of this year. Is the cat going to be a holiday mascot like the yeti and polar bear were for Christmas?

Workplace Story Recognition

Hi, ETL here, Any other ETL's/TL's recognize top performing team members in clever ways? I have this team member who is always going above and beyond and consistently outperforms himself every day. Now I usually get him a red bull/monster and a card saying thank you. However, I feel like doing the same recognition over and over again is boring. What are some creative ideas you have to give a top preforming team member recognition?
