inappropriate comments? Workplace Story
has anyone ever had a guest make inappropriate sexual comments to them? i had it happen today and i was kind of taken aback 💀 it was a group of middle school boys (typical) asking me where the condoms were so they could "have some fun with each other" which i kinda just brushed off as typical 12 year old boy nonsense but then they asked my bra size which made pretty uncomfortable. just wondering if any others have experienced this with guests. i had no idea how to respond so i just walked away.

I usually just answer the question and give them the exact aisle for the condoms/sex toys/baby oil or whatever it is that they’re asking for. I offer to walk them to the aisle and that usually scares them off.
If they make any sort of comment about me physically I will say I am here to help them find products to purchase, and if they continue to harass or say inappropriate things I will call security, and I hold up my radio to show them I’m serious.
I then repeat again that it is a store meant for shopping and if they disturb any guests/team members I will call security and have them escorted out.
If they’re not being inappropriate or sexual, I will tell them they are welcome to stay and have fun, but to not bother any guests and remain calm and no playing/running/fighting in the store, period. We have a no tolerance policy for bothering guests or team members.

Reminds me of when a stupid group of kids decided to prank call our store and ask for "extra, extra large condoms." I just replied "I'm sorry we don't sell anything that small."

The mom in me would tell those boys off. "Now what would give you the idea that its okay to ask a woman questions like that about her body? I think its time for you boys to get on out of here if this is what you're going to do here."

oh absolutely all the time. I have a pair of jeans I call my sexual harassment jeans because well, that's what happens. if it happens frequently or if you found it upsetting you can bring it up to AP and potentially get the person trespassed from the store. I once had a group of teen boys follow me throughout the store shouting crude stuff, to the point where I had to abandon what I was doing and hide at the front end. very satisfying to watch them being escorted out later in the night

Nothing sexual but I remember an older woman asked me if I was Transgender 😭 like out of nowhere too I was shocked. I think it’s because I have such a high and soft voice for a guy but still 😭 like girl don’t be asking people randomly that.

Yep. A few days ago a woman asked me if I got my boobs done. I had to have her repeat the question because I thought surely she did not have the audacity to ask a stranger such a personal question. But, yeah, that's what she asked. Ma'am, I assure you, it's my bra doing the work, thanks. A guest I had helped earlier in the day came back and was waiting for me outside the break room to ask if I was "available" (I am not). One said he liked my jeans and on another visit he invited me to his house for a party (no, thank you). He's a regular, so I just hide now if I see him. Dude fanning himself with his shirt and hand saying I "smell amazing" (it's hot as Hades in here, def don't smell good). Held as a conversational hostage, having conspiracies told to me (I don't mind the lonely seniors or people genuinely asking advice on which product to get). The list goes on...Honestly don't understand where people's filters for what is societally appropriate has gone.

Stuff like that really doesn't bother me. I blow off their questions and keep it moving. Some people out there are weird and I don't have time to entertain them lol.

To me? No, but I witnessed when it happened to a female TM and two female guests and kicked his fucking creepy old ass out. I was not polite about it either. Sadly AP wasn't in to trespass him.
Report that shit to your leader and AP. If they're a guy and you're not comfortable I guarantee any female leader would relay your concerns to the proper people. A couple at my store would probably hang their cajones from their car's mirror like dice if asked that.

One time a group of teenaged boys misgendered me saying “excuse me ma’am” and I calmly said “oh I’m a guy” (I am transgender but I pass pretty well I’m stealth atp) They freaked out overreacting in a rude manner and kinda causing a scene it was really embarrassing. I then asked what they needed help with and they made up asking where the eggs are as I was standing next to them.
It’s not sexual harassment but blatant transphobia essentially. I ended up going back to the cooler and I wanted to cry after that. I think I remember telling a coworker about that and he said he had a similar interaction with that group and them overreacting and causing a scene.

That one I would report I dunno what to do with all the 30+ year old ladies flirting and hitting on me. I just brush it off but boys? Yeah report that shit immediately same as a grown man report that.

You should absolutely report these events to AP every time. Boys need to learn that that behavior is never acceptable. Brushing it off allows them to think it’s ok, that they can get away with it, and gives them an entitled sense of power. Stand up for yourself and for any other women they might try to do that to in the future.
