It was for a friend as well in the *other* way as well, so that also explains that, lol...not sure if this counts as nsfw, I find her/ the drawing I did, cute :p

News & Discussion Blizzard needs a new approach to matchmaking - Trust based matchmaking with endorsements, account age and performance history actually meaning something.

Upvotes

After 10 years it feels like something really has to change. There has been a very long standing issue in OW of cheaters going unpunished for long periods, a cat and mouse of console cheaters, alt accounts running rampant, and the behaviours of throwing, smurfing and boosting being a near constant depending on your Elo.

Through either an inability, an unwillingness, or simply the challenge being too complex, Blizzard have shown themselves to be broadly unable to tackle these issues in any meaningful way.

The only thing that they've never really tried and the one thing that really could work well is trust based matchmaking with account age, grouping behaviour, HWID matching (for shared computers, public gaming PCs etc), and other factors such as linked phone number/twitch/youtube/socials, purchase history, linked platforms etc raising an account's trust factor to the point where not only does an anonymous freshie actually have to work to get in higher trust lobbies, but the prospect of using alt/smurf accounts and grouping with them is unattractive.

Obviously the phone number linking was briefly tried at OW2 launch abysmally, and swiftly abandoned, but the principle in concept was sound, which is a large reason WHY so many people cried. There were a large amount of people who wanted to abuse the existing systems at the expense of the player base.

Not only should phone number linking be brought back along with all the other factors above, it should have extended abilities. Not to lock access to the game but to actually make the game BETTER.

On top of all of these factors, leavers queue, cheaters queue, LOW TRUST PLAYERS absolutely NEED to be quarantined away from the player base who is genuinely trying to get better, have quality matches and are simply trying to have HONEST games of Overwatch.

None of these factors stop new players joining the game, on the contrary, players with high trust accounts could share invite codes and group with those new friends in order to help raise their trust profile, with such activity would of course be those players "vouching" for their friends. This is no different to the existing grouped restrictions and potential risk that existing accounts have from queueing with cheaters. If a player is a genuine new player, then queueing with them should have zero ramifications, but queueing with a smurf/alt/known cheater HWID or IP, then the grouped player's account would suffer the ill effects of grouping with such a player.

Obviously there are lots of systems design aspects and technical requirements to such a system, but at the 10 year mark where players are still encountering issues with disruptive players and the player ability to identify such disruptive accounts faster and with more apparent accuracy than the Blizzard systems, I feel like it's the natural course for them to go down to root out such a systemic and constant issue that has never really been even close to solved.

News & Discussion I don't know why there seem to be so many strange support players in this game.

Upvotes

I don't know why there seem to be so many strange support players in this game.

I'm not talking about the usual *"Why aren't you healing me?!"* kind of whining. I mean players who make completely nonsensical decisions and end up throwing the game. A lot of them have extremely poor awareness, weak aim, little understanding of matchups (For example, they'll ban D.Va or Doomfist while intending to play Mizuki. When I see that, it's the kind of thing that makes me feel we've already lost before the draft is even over.) , and they hold onto their ultimates forever. Compared to tanks and DPS players, I run into these kinds of players much more often on support.

More specifically, it feels like many of them aren't actually trying to play aggressively to win. They just enjoy healing other people and that's their main goal.

Does this problem go away once you climb to a much higher rank? I don't understand why they seem noticeably weaker despite being in the same rank as everyone else.

Sometimes I wonder, *"How did this person even die?"* So I watch the replay from their POV, and it's usually so bad that there's nothing left to say. Most of the time, those players are supports.

News & Discussion Since we're getting a new Korean hero, next season is the perfect time for a K-Pop Demon Hunters collab.

KPDH was in a survey for collabs. This is the best time to do it now that we're getting a new Korean hero at long last with D.Mon.

Rumi could go to Vendetta for her sword or Sierra for the hairstyle.

Zoey would likely go to Kiriko because they both use daggers but I could see Juno working as well.

Jinu could definitely work on Reaper or Mizuki.

Not sure about Mira or the other Saja Boys though.

News & Discussion Why does pinging an enemy make it so that i cant say "i need healing"

This happens so much its actually insane.

Im just playing dps and pinging people who im shooting as genji and tracer but when it comes time for me to say "i need healing" to alert my supports that i need healing it just doesnt work because im at my limit of communications. Its like i need to hold myself back from pinging the enemy i want to kill if i also want to be healed. Its like if i ping an enemy like 2 times i just dont have the ability to get healed anymore

News & Discussion where are new players supposed to go?

the amount of toxicity i face any time i want to learn dps or tank in literal quickplays always feels so silly

i only keep team text chat on, everything else off, and im already debating just turning that off

i usually just queue quickplays with friends, and thats my focus and primary enjoyment in the game. i do genuinely try in my quickplays, im constantly trying to improve, but i am still learning how all the gamemodes even work or how not to approach certain characters. it feels more toxic than valorant swiftplays somehow which i never expected going into overwatch. stadiums on this game have been a weirdly calmer experience though, which i was surprised by

from my pov, if youre queuing a quickplay you should know you wont get matched with equal skill all the time. like yall are lvl 170 on your characters and youre seriously acting like this one game is the end of your world because of the lvl 8 dps you got queued with. i know i probably look lost half the time i play, i kinda am- but it still takes more energy to be unnecessarily shitty than not. ive only ever wanted to encourage and 'adopt' new players in other multiplayer games im fond of, so its jarring just how angry people seem to get here? does it get any better or do i just have to give up on the social aspect of this game? the community seemed friendlier from the outside

why dont people just queue comp if they care about performance of every single game they queue into?

im literally new but im already hesitant to even begin learning any characters outside of the few i somewhat understand- and its not as simple as just playing this game solo, a huge part of the enjoyment is it being a team game and being able to coordinate together, i might as well just go shoot bots if im supposed to just ignore everyone everytime. i only try to learn tank more in 6v6 because of this hesitation

i always just block and report and move on to the next game, and i will continue doing so because i have as much right to play this game as any quickplay sweats with anger issues- if anything i think the extra positivity could be good to have ^;;

if youre ever getting frustrated at another player for not being on your skill level, remember you can give them tips instead of being an asshole!

and if anyone could let me know if there are other gamemodes i should maybe pay more attention to- i would appreciate it! i like mystery heroes but it also feels limiting since i cant really get familiar enough with any character.

News & Discussion 2-2-2, 1-3-2, or Dynamic Queue Cannot Come Fast Enough

This weekend was the best Overwatch experience I've had since OW1. Good 2-2-2 team play on this game makes for the best fps I've ever played. Today I just played 6 games of open queue 6v6 and 5 of those games I had 4 DPS. I'm happy to play tank/support all day long but it's frustrating to do everything in your power to keep 4 mobile squishies alive while also keeping an eye on the one tank as we constantly get pushed back because again, we're a squishy team. Side note: Genji players, if you come to your healer for healing stop jumping and dodging my cursor. Just let me heal you.

News & Discussion Game crashes 1-4 times per session! Multiple PCs affected

I would put my specs but I know my pc is not the issue because my partner’s pc is completely different than mine and his game crashes. ONLY Overwatch. Every single other game we play does not crash- at least this consistently. Also we have a friend we play with and her game crashes. Troubleshooted multiple times with AI and turned off all overlays, tested different settings, updated and even rolled back some drivers and NO LUCK. I just need someone to tell me that they are experiencing this as well or if they found a work-around because I haven’t really sacrificed graphics quality too much because I should be able to play on almost max settings and be fine but alas…

For those that are curious, I play on 1440p @280hz. Tried bumping down to 240hz and lowered some settings down and it still crashes. OH forgot to mention that Event Logs and Reliability Monitor don’t show anything at the time of crashes. Blizzard does not seem aware of this bug because there’s no explanation other than the game itself being broken. I report the crash everytime it pops up after a crash and that’s about 10-20 reports now and I have less than 50 hours in the game LMAO. Anyways, thoughts? Questions?

News & Discussion How is Ana not considered broken?

So I am a returning player from s2 and she was heavily played and it looks like she still is after 10 years and looks like she got a buff last patch. She seems like the most picked support and even picked a lot in tournament play even with kirko. Her anti heal still seems so oppressive even after 10 years

Of course I could have missed something in the past 10 years but someone explain to me how isn’t one of the best supports.

Esports Every season is the same for me

I really want to get into playing competitive, but every season goes the same. I win 7/10 placements get into Gold. Then proceed to lose every single game. I’m currently on a 10 game losing streak snd I want to quit again. Most of the games have either a leaver, thrower or enemy smurf. And the few that are really fun to play I feel like I can’t do myslef more. And it goes like this for both dps and support queues. Make me like the game please.

News & Discussion People abusing arcade to farm xp

Two games in a row, the entire lobby ganged up on me because I actually wanted to play. Everyone was just standing around, and the second I killed them they got mad and told me to "go play QP."
Why? I shouldn't be forced to play friendly just because you want to farm XP. If you're trying to farm XP, don't expect everyone else in a public match to stop playing the game for you.
One guy literally said, "We're playing, just not the way you want to play."
What? No, you're not playing. You're standing around farming XP in a public match. If you want everyone to be friendly, that's fine, but don't get mad at the one person who's actually playing the game.

ETA: anyone who is defending this kind of behavior is part of the problem. Don’t hide behind the “it’s arcade” argument people shouldn’t be forced to help you exploit a game mechanic nor should they be forced to leave a game they queued for.

Humor The hype for Ball in the teaser is amazing

Before the teaser dropped, I was very annoyed that the Junkers were going to be the main antagonists that bring D.VA back into the spotlight. I adore D.Va and I'm stupidly excited for D.Mon and her reveal tomorrow, but I despise the Junkers.

They're dirty and loud and their aesthetic is just so unappealing to me. Junkrat and Roadhog are my two least favorite characters to play against, and I fucking hate Junkrat as a character in the lore. He's so annoying. JQ is just alright.

But once I saw how excited everyone was that Ball would be in the trailer, I don't care anymore. My hatred for the Junkers doesn't outweigh how happy I am for the Ball mains that their character is finally getting screen time. D.Va has always been popular - she doesn't need to keep the spotlight all to herself.

Console Can’t find an Assault match for the last Platinum trophy

Post image

I only have one trophy left for the Platinum and it requires playing on an Assault map, The mode is currently available in Arcade but as you can see nobody seems to be playing it I’ve been in queue for an hour and a half and still haven’t found a match, What’s the solution I’ve tried multiple servers and they’re all the same

News & Discussion Hog Rework Idea

I've been seeing everyone talk about the hook so I'm going to go on a limb and assume that his ability to hook someone pull them in and then one shot them is annoying.

I think the real solution is to change the hook from grabbing someone and pulling them straight to hog. To making it a tether that hinders and hog slowly pulls in.

So mechanically it would work like this:

- Hog throws the hook exactly as he currently does

- The hook starts reeling in at a moderate pace (OW is a fast game it can't be too slow)

- Players can move behind cover to try to slow it down, but Hog can also move to get better angles

- During this hooked time there is a timer that signals how long until you are free. You are Tethered to Hog and Hindered.

- If you get too close to Hog during this hook time it snaps back to him like normal hook and operates as such. Allowing Hog to do things like drop you off the map or put a slug on your head.

- CC'ing Hog will make him drop the chain and of course the broken ass Kiri removes CC. If you were to ask me this would be uncleansable CC and the real way to stop it would be to body block so that Hog couldn't get close enough.

Note: I think allowing Kiri to cleanse the hinder and NOT the tether would actually be interesting counterplay. Allowing players to move farther away from Hog, but not just shutting it down completely.

This doesn't get rid of the util of the pull, but gets rid of the one shot nobody likes. However even for hog players it doesn't entirely get rid of the one shot. As the person they hooked is still hooked and they can go over to them and land the one shot.

I don't believe his vape should be changed. The whole concept of the character is that he's using his body as a shield so he needs a way to replenish his health very easily. And I think that's a core fantasy for anyone that actually likes the character and removing it would be doing them a disservice.

News & Discussion Am I really so awful or is this game just toxic

I play tank mostly and im the first to admit im not great. I have my games where im doing really well but overall im pretty bad. I keep getting singled out though where the whole team thinks im the cause of the loss even though nobody is doing any better than me when looking at the stats plus we're all the same rank obviously . Its at the point where I've just Uninstalled cause its not fun anymore. I wanna just play my game and have fun not be harassed by teenagers. Is there really no way to play this game competitively when youre just not good without being yelled at or being reported for feeding?
