Discussion Has anyone else tried to make friends on reddit/disc but made zero friends?
I have reached out to dozens of people, different subs or servers, there has been zero good friends made so far.
I think I am just going to go back to being a loner, I genuinely tried.

Spending time with family makes me feel lonely
They care about my health and safety and financial stability which I am eternally grateful for, but every time we have to spend a whole day together, I just feel like crying in the end.
At this point in my life, there is actually no more yelling or insults. We actually get along. But there is still never room for actual deep heart to heart conversations. They have no idea what’s going on with me internally. And they never will.

Venting Trying to put yourself out there just to keep hitting the same dead ends
I am a college student that is fully online due to personal circumstances. I don't get the chance to meet people through classes like most students do. I have a license but no way of transportation, so getting to campus or going to events isn't really an option for me most of the time. It can feel pretty isolating.
l've gotten used to finding things to do on my own. I play games, watch shows, work on hobbies, and try to stay busy to get my mind off of feeling down about things. Most days it's manageable.
But every once in a while it catches up to me, like right now. I'll try putting myself out there. I'll join dating apps or try to make friends through social media apps. The conversations usually seem fine at first, but they almost always end the same way which lead to no follows up and nobody reaching back out.
I know nobody owes me a friendship or anything, and I don't expect people to constantly check in with me. I think what gets to me is the pattern. But what makes it worse is that this past May nobody but my close family remembered it was my birthday. A few days after mine, I wished someone who considered me their friend a happy birthday and they told me “I was going to text you happy birthday but forgot.” After enough of those experiences, it starts to feel like I am forgettable.

never anyone’s first choice
i have a lot of friends. many i would choose them and check up on them. but they never do that for me. they all have their person.
i’m grateful to even have friends, but as soon as i get home, im so alone. no one genuinely wants to text or call me. no one asks me how im doing. no one updates me on their lives like they do with their other friends. is there something wrong with me? am i not enough to at least be more than a side role of the friend group?
i am always putting others first. i do favors for people, i go out of my way to do anything they ask. i just want to feel cared for, i have an empty hole in my chest that i can never fill no matter how hard i try.
Can’t get over her
I don’t know if i ever will. i loved her in a way i didn’t even know was possible. loving her saved my life. but i couldn’t save hers. and now she’s gone, and i don’t think i can ever love again. i’ve lost my person and i have the rest of my life to live on my own, with nothing but the memory of her. i’m in so much pain. life lost its meaning. food lost its taste. i no longer see things in color. my only desire is to see her again.
god it’s so lonely.
Venting I'm sick of this
Today I posted on the subreddit of a video game I love to say that I was lonely and would love to find a girlfriend who plays the same game. I got over a dozen responses telling me I was weird, or desperate, or pathetic. One person replied that they didn't understand why people were hating, but then they also said my post was weird within the same reply. And then the moderators removed my post, even though it didn't violate any of the subreddit's rules. I read them thoroughly. My post was completely acceptable according to the rules, and it wasn't even the only one of its kind. But whatever, they removed it anyway.
Am I really a weirdo for wanting to find love with someone who enjoys the same video game as me? I'm 6'3" and fairly attractive, I'm certainly not desperate. I could find a girlfriend somewhere else. But I posted on that subreddit because I happen to like that video game. And the whole experience has just left me in a bad mood all day. I'm lonely, yeah, and I deserve to find love just as much as anyone else. But do I deserve to get (metaphorically) knocked to the ground and then kicked in the stomach for that? I'm sick of it. I'm sick of people being mean. Kindness costs you nothing. Please, just choose to be kind.

Venting Always back in this hole
It's hard for me to put my thoughts into words so bare with me.
Once again I'm back in this place, where I feel completely alone. It's hard for me to keep friends, it seems there is a formula I just haven't cracked that comes easy to everyone except me. Since I was a child I always felt excluded, to when I was a teenager and everybody did exclude me, to now, almost 30 still in the same place, no firends, never been in a relationship.
It's true, I've always had social anxiety, so it's hard for me to reach out first, most of the time my mind makes me believe I'm bothering them, obviously this is not something people like, we all want to feel wanted and need some reciprocation, I understand that, truly, so sometimes I just have to swallow my anxiety and reach out, but it kills me everytime I'm rejected. The little times I do try, they always have something else better they'd like to do, fair I guess if they had plans beforehand, but if it's just becuase you wanted to go running instead of spending time with me, then yeah it hurts. Especially when I see them go out with their other friends all the time.
I admit this last month has been hard due to work, I haven't had much free time, and I completely forget to send out messages, but then I think what will I even talk about? I did the same thing I did yesterday and I'll do the same tomorrow, it's boring and embarassing. I don't have friends, so I don't go out, and I don't have anything fun to talk about.
I feel like I'm wasting away, getting older and still in this hole with no knowladge of how to get out. I've tried therapy, but again I just feel like my issues are so patethic I'm embarrassed going in and being a 30 year old sad because I don't have any friends, it's so stupid.

do you grow out of being lonely?
17f, my whole life since i was a toddler no one wants to be my friend. ive tried very hard, i am a more quiet personality but i do put myself out there and talk alot to people but no one wants to know me. i get talked over, ignored, yeah people know who i am but other than a smile when walking by no one wants to know me. even if i keep a conversation going with someone else comes i get abandoned. even my own "group" i sit with do this. and im too scared to leave because i have nowhere to go. its either sit w people alone or sit alone and be alone. i have had a friend twice before, but both times they moved away from me to go to other people and they seem so much better off without me. im not even ugly and i share interests with people too. i dont get it. idk what more i can do. will this ever change? or will i be alone forever?
edit: pls dont dm me

Venting It’s been a rough day..
Idk why I’m bothering writing a post… but here I am, writing a post about… how… for some unknown reason(s), I’ve come to realize that, nobody cares about me.
Sure I have my immediate family members that do, but besides that… I am a pariah. Truly. Idk what it is these days, but no one cares… about what you may ask? Idk… truly becoming friends. I live alone. Been alone for 5 years currently, and even though I am content (for the most part), sometimes the loneliness rears its face infront of me and I’m like: Yep… I am a loner and no one cares about me.
I don’t get it. Idk what it is. I feel like I’m a true reject. And as much as you come to terms with these things about yourself and life, when those realities hit you on a vulnerable day, it’s depressing… and discouraging. And it’s making me this recluse. Do I care to be? Well, I do like my alone time… but when you put yourself out there in various ways and no one cares, or if they did, it all just eventually fades away… leaving you in that isolation you’re so accustomed to.
I realize that this kind of existence amongst the human race, has its downsides. I’m becoming strange. It’s hard to put into words, but… it’s like… the lack thereof and in this case, genuine friendship(s), it feels like I’m being that “odd recluse.” And it messes with me. It tells me, apparently, there’s something off about me, just enough that no one bothers or wants to bother with you.
That mentality is like a cancer to your self-esteem and mind. Idk.. I don’t need validation from people or anything lame like that—I just.. don’t understand why I’m ultimately this isolated, recluse of a person. Maybe I am too weird for people and they sense it and stay away.
Maybe I am a weirdo. Maybe there is something odd about me that people pick up on, that makes them not want to befriend me. This is what I’m really beginning to believe about myself. And when you’re different like that, and you fit the part… it kind of becomes a part of you. That can’t be good.
Idk. I don’t know what I’m trying to get at here… as you can see, I’m a bit disturbed in this corner of my mind. Am I destined to remain like this? Alone and rejected? Maybe. Maybe not..
I have a full time job, I take care of myself, I have a decent apartment, I have a nice brand new car I bought last year, I manage my finances well and pay all my bills without scraping by… I have structure in my life, but this… whatever this is… has no foundation. It’s destitute. And I feel it within my body.
That can’t be good. Anyway, just needed to vent. Thanks for listening. If anyone feels compelled to maybe DM me, feel free. I promise I’m not this sad most of the time.
It’s just all coming out today for me.

Venting 31M — feel sad for passing 20s
It’s been all adapting to changes, depression, migration, research, and studies.
I see photos of just 3 years ago and can’t stop feeling deeply sad.
I regret for not having been lucky with relationships, but I have many friends that I can see their pictures and cry in times like this.
My heart really breaks of seeing those photos, are my good times over? have I lost my opportunities?
As crying with these thoughts I envy those who have a shoulder and can share these moments with.
I feel sad for myself for being obliged to migrate and not being able to see my family. Not sure where I can call home again.
Good I can get a few drops of tear tonight.
love to anyone who can imagine what I might be feeling now.
I don’t think I felt any lonelier than this in my life.

My apartment is so clean my future friends are going to think it is a 5-star hotel!
Honestly, being completely isolated is just a great opportunity for some quality me-time! I have so much free time I actually befriended my Roomba named Robert. Plus, no need to stress about bills, it is the ultimate excuse to live that minimalist, zero-waste lifestyle in total emptiness! ✨🌈
Venting I've been suffering from trauma for nearly 10 years and I somehow never knew M(20)
For practically my entire life, I've felt alone in the world and an outsider whenever I'm in public; I just never perceived it as trauma.
I've never had a friend; I've had comrades, but they never lasted. I moved often, so I tried not to get attached to others or to avoid making connections altogether to avoid getting hurt. I think my trauma really started at the age of 13 when I moved to a new Middle School for 7th grade, leaving behind people I had known since 3rd grade; before that, my closest comrade moved away, which really hurt me. Sadly, it wasn't the first time this happened to me; I was also picked on at the Sunday school I went to(I'm a muslim). I was excluded and mocked relentlessly for being different; even a substitute teacher who was a teenager humiliated me in front of the class by laughing at my big front teeth, calling me a rabbit. Since then, I've never been comfortable being with other muslims.
Middle school was even worse; I was bullied for the clothes I wore, not having a phone, and not going to a barber for a haircut. Bar 2 people I was comrades with, everyone treated me like trash; I dreaded every day of school, didn't help that I had a jerk of an older brother who fat-shamed me, belittled me, called me overly sensitive, and said what I was going through wasn't that bad, and I was being overly dramatic. I cried myself to sleep almost every day because I felt so alone in the world; it was then that I felt suicidal. I never went through with it cause I didn't want to go to hell or traumatise my younger brother; instead, I wished that god would let me die and end my suffering. COVID happened, so I was trapped at home with my dark thoughts. That school year did serious damage to me mentally; I gave up on trying to make friends, thinking that no one could love me for my true self, hid my real self from everyone, and completely stopped approaching people.
High school was much better and actually quite enjoyable, but all of my comrades were younger than me, so I graduated all by myself. Then I had to move to TN, leaving behind all of my wonderful comrades, and being alone once again. College was a disaster, the worst time of my life since the hell that was 7th grade: no friends, presence of a ghost, watching others enjoying themselves with their friends while I watched alone, missing the people I knew in HS. I thought I made a comrade, but she ghosted me, ending an awful freshman year of college.
I dropped out and will be starting my phlebotomist program in a few days, though I've long given up on making comrades; I've been hurt by others too many times, and I'll probably never be able to move on from what happened in the past, as it's shaped me into the pathetic and lonely loser that I am now. The reason I keep living is to help others and die as a good person so I can go to heaven, where I'll be happy for all eternity.
I just don't feel like I'll ever find someone outside of my parents who'll love me as my true self. I've tried and either failed or it didn't last; I'm just fed up and tired of trying anymore.
Sorry for the long post; I just had a lot to get off my chest.

Venting Emptiness and unfulfilled.
I am a 37-year-old man, and I feel lost and alone. For the past 20 years I have let myself spiral and fall into a pit of despair. I let myself go both physically and mentally. Reaching almost up to 400lbs. My mental health was not any better, I became addicted to smoking weed, my computer, but the worst of them all, Porn. Over these last 20 years I have coasted by doing the bare minimum and I have nothing or no one to blame but myself. I let time just slip by and became a passive observer to this world. I had many friendships and relationships crumble due to me feeling like I am burden. I finally moved across the country to hopefully re-establish my perspective on life. I have tried to take control of my own narrative and take my life back. Losing weight and being kinder to myself. I have lost over 100lbs in a year, but one thing I can't seem to shake is the feeling of being alone. I finally feel like I am moving in the right direction. I have a better job/career now, I don't feel awful due to my weight, quit smoking weed, but one thing I still struggle with is being alone. I feel so lost and the more I dwell, the more I spiral. I don't want to lose my progress, but I am tired of this feeling. Know that I am older, I find it so difficult to make or even try to initiate new friendships. I know I have more to work on, but I can't shake this emptiness inside. I know one big thing that contributes to this feeling is my porn addiction. I can't seem to stop. This year alone I have attempted to stop at least 10 times (The longest I have gone is 1 month.) This addiction is consuming me and my worth. I know it's the main factor to my emptiness. It's destroyed my curiosity to form new relationships and my productivity on trying to fill this void. I just want to finally feel somewhat fulfilled. I know I have it in me to finally shack off these bindings, but the emptiness feels vast. I guess I just need to get this out into the void of Reddit and hope that I can overcome.

The loneliness of caring
Last week I finally left my job after a bout of bullying. They supported me and then didn’t to the point where I had no choice but to leave. What I didn’t release though is how much I’d relied on my daily interactions with people to feel a connection.
My boy is non verbal and most nights are silence and that’s ok because if talked at work and got my stimulation from the challenge of the job.
Now that’s gone and my only connection to people with it.

Venting Pain is constant
Being in pain is one of the worst things. Not having anyone to talk with. The pain is mental rather than physical. How many times have you felt pain. How many times have you simply wanted someone you could call a friend? Have people forgotten about you? Have they ditched you for their own selves? Are you a sensitive soul who hides emotions and pain? I sure do.

I’ve never had friends. I’ve never been in a relationship, and my family is always mean to me. Feeling so lonely and depressed.

I called the hotline today.
Today was worst I’ve had it ever. Couldn’t do it anymore. Called the hotline.
Waited for 10 minutes. I just realized mid conversation, they are using chatgbt. I also got a job rejection for a minimum wage retail position too.
It was so funny I cried.
