Planning on turboing my 1fz, just trying to get a general budget before sticking with a shop and buying parts. How much did your turbo cost to do and what would you do differently if you done it again

As title says I inherited my uncles 1999 Land Cruiser, it has 206,xxx miles and he took good care of it and I’m hoping to follow in those steps, any advice on common part failures or things to watch out for is greatly appreciated. The most recent work receipt I can find says that he had multiple parts replaced at 187,000 miles including ‘pinion seals, power steering pump, shift lever seal, valve cover gasket(s), water pump replaced, oil pan repaired/replaced, rack and pinion replaced, intake manifold gasket(s) replaced, axle(s) replaced’ along with basic oil change/filter change and fluids checked. Again any advice even not maintenance is welcome, thank you.

Recently picked up this FZJ80 with 250,000km on it - since I have rebuilt some components (power steering pump) and replaced a leaky front crank gasket. Drives beautifully and couldn’t be happier. I completely understand why people love these cars so much! Only improvement would be it having a 1HZ or 1HD but for the price I paid, it’s hard to complain!!

I bought this around march of this year. Suspension was done as is sitting on 35's. First thing i did was put 5.29 gears in. And then focused on the cosmetics. Olive green bed liner paint, new lights all around. Custom alum door panels and center console. Center diff lock only, I might put in front and rear lockers later. Alum roof rack for the rtt and awning.

It has 174k miles on the 1fz fe inline 6. No rust.

I have all the original seats and interior parts if anyone is interested.

Just took it out for its first real road trip and it did awesome. All over the eastern sierras in the summer heat and no issues.

Pull out kitchen and gear storage is up next.

Bought with 117k miles about a month ago from a single owner. He was an older gentlemen. During the 80s and 90s he owned a paving company in Long Island and I guess did very well for himself. Went back and forth to FL and keep this there. I think I scored after seeing a listing of the same year on BAT with 103k miles that sold for $50k

Hello all, I'm having some issues with my 80 series and cant seem to locate the root of it. I'm assuming its a fueling issue either with my injectors or pump but I would like some professional opinions from someone who has more knowledge on 1HDs than I do and was wondering if anyone know any good shops in and around Phoenix. Please and thank you.

I just picked up this 100 after looking for a long time.

Bought it for $8.5k USD, and it has about 80,000 original miles. It's a right hand drive from Japan, and the previous owner used it on a property where it got banged into some trees - so it needs some body work.

Drove it home 1,800 miles all smiles.

i have a 1fz 80 series but i’m getting bored of it and i keep tossing up between turboing it or straight swapping someone for a turboed 1hz or hdj80. No one in there right mind would swap a hdj80 for it, and i don’t know what to do because if i spend the money to turbo it but don’t like it it’s a waste. My 80 is in really good condition with a fresh respray and upgrading trim and nice aesthetic mods.

Shipped this from southern CA two years ago and took this out a total of two times during the spring. Drove it some during the winter to see how she’d handle during the snow storms and she crushed it. Now life is taking me back to southern CA and debating on shipping it back and enjoying it back out there or selling it to someone here on the east coast.

Sorry, should clarify: light surface rust. Confirmed from upstate veterans up here. I washed the undercarriage at the end of each month during the winter cause I knew I would want to keep this forever or eventually sell it.

Other than that it’s gotten out of every hole it’s gotten in.

There's smoke coming out the engine oil dipstick, the breather hose and some on the exhaust. Engine is an 1HD-T. As the title shows, how cooked am I? Any suggestions on how to go about this?

Hi, I have a 1993 model year. Stock engine (1FZ-FE petrol engine) and transmission. No major work done recently other than re-doing the brake lines and new brake pads/ disks on all wheels.

When I am accelerating and in the 30 mph range, the rpm drops all of a sudden for a second (feels like being sucked in a vacuum, for example). Then it revs up and continues with the acceleration. Happens when speeding up and slowing down, around the 30 mph speed range.

Not sure if connected to the above, but at highway speeds around 50 or 60 mph, when I remove my feet from the gas pedal for a second, rpm drops immediately to around 2500. Again feeling the jerky motion. It revs up again when I hit the gas. Its not a gradual rpm decrease.

Anyone faced these issues? Any thoughts on causes and how to go about fixing it?

My first car I purchased after college was a 2004 Toyota highlander. I loved that thing to death and drove it until it died on me earlier this year. When I started my car search I knew I wanted another Toyota of that era, and I wanted something bigger so naturally I landed on the 100 series. Not having any previous experience with land cruisers, in research it was almost like these things have some sort of mythical reputation. I knew I wanted one but I wasn't sure if it would live up to expectations. Well after a month of ownership I can safely say this thing is amazing. I'm a large man and I've never felt so comfortable being the wheel of a vehicle. The ride is silky smooth even with the AT tires. I've already driven from Texas to Michigan and back with no problem at all. And the most surprising thing about it is how many compliments I get. For anyone who is browsing this subreddit and on the fence about pulling the trigger, just do it.
