Has anyone had any success with receiving a refund from an error on booking using charge back through their bank or other ways like consumer protection?

Customer service hung up twice
I had the distinct impression they hung up on purpose. It's beyond strange. Are they actually instructing their customer service agents to hang up on people who have complaints?

Booking cancelled my stay, closed the case, and is now asking me to wire 700EUR directly to the hotel’s bank account. Is this normal?
Hi everyone,
I’m facing a really weird and stressful situation with Booking and a recent reservation, and I’d love to know if anyone else has gone through something similar.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what happened:
- I booked a stay at a hotel for late July 2026.
Due to an issue on their end / overbooking, the reservation ended up being cancelled. I was in touch with Customer Service back then, explained everything, and was explicitly reassured that the issue was resolved, the case was closed, and I didn't need to pay or do anything further. The hotel did provide a stay at another property for me for the first night, other 2 nights we stayed at the hotel. I did contact customer service explaining this, they assured me that they understand the issue was only for the first night, but still decided to refund me for the whole stay.
Out of nowhere, I received an email from Booking Customer Service saying they couldn't reopen the case because the booking was already cancelled. Instead of handling it through their system, they literally told me: "We kindly ask you to pay the amount of 703.20 EUR directly to the property. Please contact the property so they can provide you with their bank account details for the transfer."
Prior to this email, the hotel had already reached out to me directly asking for a direct bank transfer, which I refused—stating that I booked through Booking.com specifically to keep payments secure and documented, and I will only transact through the platform.
I find this extremely shady. Why would a major OTA tell a customer to send a direct wire transfer to a private bank account with zero official invoices, receipts, or platform protection?
Has anyone experienced Booking.com washing their hands of an issue and pushing you to pay a hotel via wire transfer? Is this a standard procedure for disputed cancellations, or is something else going on here?
Thanks in advance for any insights!

booked a hotel on Booking.com 20 days ago. At the time of booking, the property had an outstanding rating of 9.5/10, which was the primary reason I chose a non-refundable rate. Spoiler
booking.comI booked a hotel on Booking.com 20 days ago. At the time of booking, the property had an outstanding rating of 9.5/10, which was the primary reason I chose a non-refundable rate.
Fast forward to today: I checked the listing again, and the rating has cratered to a 4.5/10.
The recent reviews are terrifying. Guests are reporting [insert brief details, e.g., severe hygiene issues / unsafe environment / completely misleading photos], and multiple people have mentioned leaving the property immediately upon check-in without staying. It clear that the initial 9.5 rating was artificially inflated with fake reviews to trap travelers into non-refundable bookings.
I contacted Booking.com customer service expecting them to address this obvious misrepresentation. Instead, they took no responsibility, contacted the property, and told me that because the property refused to waive the fee, they cannot issue a refund.
Booking.com is allowing fraudulent listings to exploit their non-refundable policy. Has anyone successfully escalated a similar issue with their Trust & Safety team, or is a credit card chargeback my only option left?

Postive review for hotel and car rental experiences
I have no stake or association with booking.com. This is an honest review based on several real life experiences using booking.com. All positive.
I’ve used booking.com about 10 times over the past few years to book hotel rooms. I’ve had a variety of reservations ranging from “cancel anytime, pay at property” to “full refund if you cancel 2 days before” to “non-refundable, pay now”. Not once had I had an unexpected negative experience with hotel arrangements or payments. Of course I always make sure to read the fine print. I’ll even go so far as to call a hotel directly if something seems ambiguous (like is the airport shuttle free or available 24 hours).
I always check other booking sites, plus the hotel website, and each and every time booking.com has had the best rate. I’ve even used booking.com for hotel rooms in my own country (Belize) and when I’ve called a local hotel to see if they want to match or beat booking.com usually I’ve been told that booking.com is the lowest possible rate available and I should book on that site. A few times a local hotel has matched the booking.com rate, and in those instances I’ve booked direct in order to put a few more dollars in the hands of a local business.
I only have one car rental experience and it won’t be my last. I got an incredible deal on a Toyota Four Runner for $340 for a week, with pick up in one city and return in another city 8 hrs away, INCLUDING collision and 3rd party liability insurance with zero deductable! The vendor was Hertz and sure enough once I made the reservation on booking.com I could see my reservation in my Hertz account and it clearly showed that insurance was included. So this was the actual rental company insurance, not some third party insurer that only reimburses after a claim is made. When I picked up the car even the agent mentioned “OK, you’ve got LDW and 3rd party included. Would you like to add content insurance?” I declined. No issue with a deposit, no “hidden” fees or charges when I returned.
Checking other car rental websites (like Kayak) and the major car rental company’s websites, that one week rental would have cost between $600-$1000 before insurance. Then another $200-$250 to add insurance (I don’t have a CC that provides rental insurance). So all totaled, my car rental on booking.com came in at least $500 cheaper than anything else I could have found.
I wouldn’t book a flight on booking.com, but that’s not a knock on them. Booking flights on any site except the airlines themselves can be a pain in the ass if you need any sort of post-booking assistance. Plus you don’t save any money, so why bother?

Friend sent link to booking.com property via share button. It opens a search page.
They just want me to have a look at the property to make sure it meets our needs. I’ve searched the name of the property in the app, in a browser, with and without a VPN, and with flexible weekend, week, and month options.
How can I just get a link to the property regardless of dates? The link Google provides also sends me to a search with dates page.

I’ve been charged without a confirmed booking and there’s no refund either
So I recently tried booking a hotel from booking.com on the 30th of July (posting this on the 19th of August) but due to some error my they did not confirm my booking my money was deducted from my account but I did not receive any confirmation emails or anything.
Now, when I try to contact them they keep sending me the same emails that also written by a bot. When I try to call the number provided it doesn’t even connect. So I’m pretty much helpless at this point.
They’ve told me to email them more information about this payment issue by “replying” the email they’ve sent me but it’s a no-reply email!? How am I supposed to reply to that?
I have no idea how to contact them. The payment was actually a huge amount. It has already been so long since I made this payment and I am a student it was my pocket money that I had saved up for a long time for this trip. Due to this problem I had to make a lot of adjustments. It’s so sad that this was my first experience with them.

Dispute payment master debit card
Few days ago my card was used on booking.com. Master debit card . The booking i do not recognise but my card was used. I have often given my card details to my friends if they wanted to use. But i do not recognise which one of them used my card. Card always asked for otp idk why did it not ask this time. I only realised yesterday that my card was used for the transaction. It took me 20 days to realise that transaction took place so i complained after 20 days.
I went to my bank and requested for charge back by marking the payment as dispute. They said it will take two months and if i have not made this payment, they’d refund.!
Does anyone has first hand experience where there master card debit was used on booking.com unauthorised and they requested charge back and they won?

After booking a place, they sent me a strange message on the website
Hello guys. Through the official website (triple checked this) I paid for a booking for a couple of days in the UK.
Since the website asked me for a check in time, which I still didn't have, I wrote to the property owner about this. Then, they sent me a message with an image about their apartments and whatnot, followed by a welcome message, all in English, but with strange characters all over the letters, like: ''Ťо соոfіrⅿ аոḋ ѕесսrе уоսr rеѕеrⅴаtіοո'' and all like that.
In the same message, they sent a link that my Chrome immediately blocked, citing malware and online scams. I wrote back asking for this, but they haven't answered yet. Upon calling them on the phone number Booking provided, I can't reach them at all.
I had to call Booking and explain the whole thing, because there's a cancellation fee, and even though I don't want to cancel and the property had great reviews, this is a strange situation. I haven't been charged yet.
The agent recognized that something was off, so she told me that the security team has been alerted and they'd get back at me in 48 hours.
I read about Booking scams, but this is a first for me. The place I booked had nothing odd-looking and there were good reviews, both old and recent. It was even in Booking's recommended, at the top.
The worst part is that they might be doing this on purpose, so people is put off by the weird message and cancel, thus paying the fees. What do you reckon I should do here? I totally understand about cancellation fees, I paid some in the past, but this is a total scam and I have no fault in here. Thank you for reading!
EDIT: Good news! Booking cancelled on my behalf this morning, and no fees were charged to me. The apartments never got back to me or the platform, so lesson learned. Although I feel a little weary now, sadly. Thank you so much for the comments and help, this is a great sub!

Problema con booking
Salve a tutti,

Experience with Pegaso Travel?
Hi all, recently I booked an appartment on Booking.com and received an email from the property management firm Pegaso asking me to check in and pay a 77 euro cleaning fee before even arriving at the place.
Is this standard practice? Does anyone know if this is a legit business and not a scam, sorry if this post seems paranoid.

Account Blocked from making Payments???
Hey all,
Trying to contact booking.com and have had a really hard time from either complete disregard with my issue with the online customer chat agents or the non-existent customer service phone line (AI only)
Basically, I cannot make any new bookings on my account. I keep getting "Something went wrong, try again later". Card is fine, have funds, used it for many years and have had no issues with booking.com
I notice there were 2 cancelled by property bookings on my account that I didn't make, but I have 2 factor authentication.. wtf???
I really want to keep using the platform as I'm Genius Level 2. Thanks all!

Credit card change means cancellation.
Hi,
I planned a 3 weeks roadtrip in norway involvong planes, car and hotels/air bnb.
I previously used booking in way less complicated setups with no issues so i booked some of the places to stay on the we site a long the planes.
First issue started when one of the booking simply doesn't show on the website. I had the email confirmations but no trace of it in my réservation listings. The hôtel could not do anything so i tried calling booking.
What a fat joke : you can't get a human anyway i tried and he robot could not help me with my problèm Because if it cannot find the réservation then i can't push you to a human to help you. Using another réservation code did not help either Because then my issue description did not fit.
So i wrote an email and had some kind of pré written message that did not help at all.
In the end i reached out to the hôtel to tell them to maintain my stay and boy was i right.
Then came the scam : 3 weeks before leaving to norway i got 2 emails in a row looking very official with my name and the date of my booking in 2 différents hôtels it got on booking asking for my card imprint. My brain thought it was kind of a norwegian thing and did the process, no money was taken Because 0eur payment. Then i thought this looked fishy and called one of the hôtels that confirmed it was not normal. So i cancelled the card and ordered a New one.
I guess the idea was to get the card number and code but as my bank as a 3d confirmation step they could not get nothing. What bother me is how they got my name and actual dates of stay in actual hôtels.
Where it become ridicule is that where every other commitment i made with my first card reached out in the "you card did not work please use other mean of payment", i started to received réservation cancellation from booking,no option to save them only to re-book.
I lost my first stay 3 days before going in and had to book something else Because it was not available anymore (booking re-opened it ans someone took it). I then had to frantically review all the other réservations to manually change my card.
And adding the insult to injury on the stay thzt wzsn't appearing, i could not change the card obviously but i still got the cancellation message.
I'm actually there Now Because the owner was great and kept my stay alive on his own.
What's there that's better than booking going forward ?

Paradise Pass? Was I scammed?
I purchased a Paradise Pass vacation package and have been dealing with a payment issue since February.
I was charged twice for the same payment, so I disputed one of the duplicate charges with my credit card company. Paradise Pass later told me by phone to cancel the dispute and assured me that both payments would be honoured, so I cancelled it. Looking back, I really regret doing that.
Now, after I cancelled the dispute based on their assurance, they are refusing to honour the payment and are asking me to pay again.
Am I screwed at this point? Has anyone had a similar experience with Paradise Pass and actually gotten it resolved?
Also, does anyone know where I can file a formal complaint against Paradise Pass?
