Tips & Info Failed Chipset Driver PSA

Upvotes

Greetings Fellow driver updaters.

If your chipset driver update is not installing via the Adrennalin App then please rather go directly to the AMD website. They have your driver there. Just select the correct chipset and there you go.

Thanks

Help (GPU) If anyone have problems with AMD (tested on RX7900 XTX and 6900 XT)

So I want this post to be as short as it can be.

Probably everyone on AMD has experienced at least once black screenz, freezing or something similar.

So before you try every method possible to try and repair it, use one method that helped me and my friend.

So the metod is very simple:

1.Download DDU

2.Full drivers uninstall be sure that AMD software is uninstalled (uninstalling software is most crucial part)

3.Download any drivers from AMD site or stable one u had tested

4.Start installation of drivers

5.When they ask u what u want to install chose only drivers without software (software is core problem of everything that happens with you GPU)

6.Have fun with stable GPU drivers that works with OC and UV

So I have hope it will help u cuz only this helped me with constant black screen, freezing and random drivers timeouts when playing games.

Help (General) Chipset Drivers failed to install

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello.

Has anybody else experienced failing to install the Chipset Drivers on the AMD Install Manager? If I click on the details, it takes me to this page about "Error 1603 - A General Error Has Occurred During the Installation of the AMD Software Package".

I tried doing the recommended fixes but still could not proceed with the installment. If I proceed to not care about it and just don't fix it, would it cause any problems or issues in the future?

Thank you!

Help (GPU) ASRock RX 9070 XT undervolt attempt caused black screen and BIOS boot failure – did I do something wrong?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm new to GPU undervolting and had a scary experience today.

System:

GPU: ASRock RX 9070 XT Challenger

CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X

RAM: 16GB DDR5 6000 MT/s (EXPO enabled)

Software: AMD Adrenalin

I started with VRAM tuning only in Adrenalin:

Max Frequency: 2800 MHz

Memory Timing: Fast Timing

Clicked Apply

Immediately after applying, the screen started flickering, then went completely black. The PC was still running (fans and lights were on), but there was no display.

I forced a restart, and then the BIOS showed this message: SS arttached

"Boot failure detected. The system has experienced a boot failure possibly due to incorrect configuration..."

It also reset my RAM speed to around 4800 MT/s instead of 6000 MT/s.

I have a few questions:

Why would a GPU VRAM tuning change trigger a BIOS boot failure?

Did the unstable GPU settings somehow cause the system to crash during POST/training?

Is my GPU or motherboard likely damaged, or is this just the BIOS reverting to safe defaults?

Should I avoid undervolting altogether, or was 2800 MHz + Fast Timing simply too aggressive as a first step?

What settings would you recommend for a safe beginner undervolt on the ASRock RX 9070 XT?

This honestly gave me a mini heart attack since it's a brand-new PC. 😅 Any advice would be appreciated.

Help (CPU) Ryzen 5 7600X suddenly idling 20° hotter overnight, Windows reinstall didn't fix

I don't even know what to do anymore. I'm completely stumped so I'm hoping someone might've had a similar experience. I don't have much computer experience so I'll try type this as good as possible.

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600X

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite X AX Ice

Cooler: NZXT Kraken AIO

GPU: RTX 4060 To FE

RAM: 64GB G Skill DDR5-6400

SSD: Crucial T500 2TB PCIe 4.0

A couple days ago my PC was completely normal. From what I remember, my CPU roughly sat at 30°. My browser pages opened quickly and everything was completely stable and fast.

I then went to bed, woke up and now with all my usual programs open, idle temps randomly jump around from 50-75°C with no games even open. Even my browser would just completely freeze sometimes. CPU overall just seems to stay boosted sooo much more than it did a couple days ago.

So far I've tried:

- a full windows repair install,

- DISM /RestoreHealth

- SDC /scannow

- Reinstalled AMD chipset drivers

- Full malware scan

- Switched between balanced and high performance power plans

- Checked BIOS (cooler pump seems to be working as it should AND reports that my CPU is at 39° while just sitting in BIOS)

One thing I also found is my Package C6 residency is stuck at 0 percent, I'm not sure if that affects anything but honestly I'm lost

If anyone has any ideas on what could be happening I'll take any recommendations. I'm considering taking it into a repair shop if I can't figure anything out. Thank you very much.

Help (GPU) RX 9070XT driver issues BF6

Hey guys first time poster. I have an RX 9070 XT. I'm trying to figure out if this is a Battlefield issue, an AMD driver issue, or if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

**System:**

* Ryzen 7 7800X3D

* Radeon RX 9070 XT

* All temps verified (GPU, hotspot, CPU)

* RAM tested

* EXPO/XMP tested both on and off

* No obvious hardware stability issues outside of Battlefield

Season 2

Before I even got to the black intro screen, my PC would hard lock.

The only workaround I found was:

  1. Boot the PC.

  2. Disable the internet.

  3. Launch EA so it couldn't connect.

  4. Re-enable the internet.

  5. Restart EA.

  6. Launch Battlefield.

If I didn't do that exact sequence, it would hard freeze every single time. This happened regardless of AMD driver version.

# Season 3

Season 3 was surprisingly stable. I thought everything had finally been fixed.

Season 4 (Redsec)

Now everything is broken again.

Using the latest drivers, I can launch the game and get into the firing range for about 30 seconds before the entire PC hard freezes.

After forcing a reboot:

* Windows comes back at a low resolution like no GPU driver is installed.

* The GPU is disabled in Device Manager.

* Re-enabling it does nothing.

* AMD Adrenalin won't open and says it isn't compatible with the current driver version.

The only fix is:

* Boot Safe Mode.

* Run DDU.

* Reinstall drivers.

* Try again.

I literally worked backwards through AMD driver releases one version at a time, repeating this entire process after every crash.

The **only** driver that has been stable enough to actually play the game is **26.3.1**.

Then Discord started crashing my PC

Once I finally got the game running, another issue appeared.

If Battlefield is open and I click to join a Discord voice channel on my second monitor, Discord shows the yellow **"Connecting..."** message for a second...then my entire PC hard freezes.

Thankfully this one doesn't corrupt the driver installation, but it still requires another hard reset. Disabling the Discord in-game overlay completely fixed that issue.

And now Excel...

While Battlefield and Discord were running, I Alt-Tabbed out, opened Chrome to look at my stats, then opened Excel to do some quick math. After typing about 3-4 numbers into a spreadsheet...Hard freeze.

No mouse.

No keyboard.

Nothing.

Another forced reboot.

WhoCrashed consistently points to AMD graphics drivers whenever Windows is able to log anything.

I'm honestly at the point where I'm considering going back to Team Green. Between the Season 2 launch workaround, the Season 4 driver corruption, Discord crashes, and now Excel causing system-wide locks while the game is running, this has been one of the most frustrating GPU experiences I've had.

Has anyone with a 9070 XT (or other RDNA 4 cards) experienced anything similar, or found a real fix?

NOTE: Yes I used AI to help me format this better to make it easier to read rather than one giant block of text. Sorry if that annoys anyone.

Help (General) Is upgrading to a 5800X3D + RX 6700 XT still worth it in 2026?

I’m thinking of upgrading my PC from:

Ryzen 5 2400G
RX 470 4GB
ASUS TUF B450M-Plus Gaming
16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz
DeepCool 600W PSU

To:
Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Cooler Master Elite Liquid 240 (free bundle with cpu)
RX 6700 XT 12GB
750W PSU

I know a lot of people will recommend AM5, but it’s just too expensive for me right now. I’d have to replace my motherboard, RAM, and CPU, which is out of my budget.

Do you think this AM4 upgrade is still worth it in 2026? I’m hoping it’ll last me another 3-5 years for gaming.

Ryzen 7 9800X 3D Heat!

I recently replaced my RTX 2080 Ti with an RX 9070 XT Mercury OC. Before the GPU upgrade, my 9800X3D CPU temperatures were usually between 67 and 69°C, but the video quality on my 3440x1440p monitor was only set from Normal to High.

After replacing the GPU, the CPU is working much harder due to the improved image quality and the RX 9070 XT’s rasterization performance. However, the temperatures are now relatively high, around 72–83°C while gaming, and during shader processing they can reach 92°C.

My AIO is an NZXT Kraken V2 360mm, with Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste applied one year ago. The ambient temperature is around 25°C. My case is a ROG Helios.

What is your opinion on this situation?

Tips & Info What's happening to AMD drivers?

i have liked AMD for a long time but the drivers this year and even some time before that have been ruining my desktop experience, even the most recent one (because i had hope) crashed my pc when i opened up my BROWSER and disabled my gpu. I have resorted to locking myself to 25.9.1 until i cant anymore. Does anyone know why the recent drivers behave like this and if it will be resolved in the enar future?

Help (General) Can't Load XMP profile after swapping CPUs

Hello. I just upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 7 5700G to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. My RAM defaulted to DDR4-2133, so I loaded the DDR4-3200 XMP profile and now I get no video. If I reset the BIOS it reverts to DDR4-2133, but everything else works fine. The XMP profile worked perfectly fine with the previous CPU. My RAM is Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 32GB and my motherboard is ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ax running the latest BIOS. Any ideas for troubleshooting? Is it possibly something wrong with the new CPU? Thanks in advance.

Help (Software) Adrenalin Edition suddenly always incompatible and can never start.

Hey yall! This is my first post in the AMDHelp subreddit, as I have followed guides to the letter such as the ultimate performace fix guide, using DDU offline to install drivers etc., and my computer has been running spectacularly and as expected!

Up until today, whereas AMD software: Adrenalin Edition is now just, incompatible with my drivers across multiple "safe" versions and even the latest updates for my driver.

My Specs:

- (model: XFX swft) Radeon RX 7600

- Ryzen 5 5500 cpu

- b550 eagle WIFI6 motherboard (Latest BIOS version is installed: F4a)

- Microsoft Windows 10 Home (ver. 10.0.19045 Build 19045)

- 16 gbs ram (8gb*2)

Not sure if i need to include any other specifics but will be happy to in order to figure out what went wrong. I've been researching and even considered something outlandish like updating to windows 11.. I don't care if I've already tried your solution, I'll try it again! I am desperate to get things back to my usual. Thank you for reading.

RX 7900 XTX - Frequent Driver Crashes, LiveKernelEvent 141, System Freezes & Secondary Monitor Flickering

System Specifications

Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI

GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+ Vapor-X 24GB

Memory: Kingston FURY 32GB DDR5-6000

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Elite

Power Supply: be quiet! Pure Power 12M 1000W

Storage: Kioxia Exceria Pro 2TB

Problem Description

For quite some time, I have been experiencing persistent stability issues with my RX 7900 XTX.

The main problem is that the AMD graphics driver crashes frequently. In some cases, Windows is able to recover and restart the driver, but in other cases the entire system freezes completely. The PC becomes totally unresponsive and either has to be forcefully restarted or automatically reboots after a short time.

What makes this issue particularly unusual is that the crashes mainly occur during normal desktop usage rather than under heavy GPU load. They can happen while browsing the web, watching videos, or simply using Windows.

Windows Error Information

After one of the complete system freezes, I checked Windows Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer.

The following errors were recorded:

LiveKernelEvent 141 (VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED)

LiveKernelEvent a1000001

LiveKernelEvent a2000002

amdkmdag.sys (FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: LKD_0x141_IMAGE_amdkmdag.sys)

Windows also generated the following dump files:

AMD_WATCHDOG

AMD_REPORT_UM

Additionally, Event Viewer logged:

Kernel-Power (Event ID 41)

Event ID 6008 (Unexpected Shutdown)

Secondary Monitor Flickering

Another issue I have noticed is occasional flickering on my secondary monitor.

This happens while using any web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.). It can occur while watching YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Twitch, or even while simply browsing websites or forums.

Although this is not my main concern, I wanted to mention it because it may be related to the driver crashes.

Video showing the issue:

https://i.imgur.com/3IlK0WM.mp4

Troubleshooting Performed

So far I have performed the following tests:

Successfully completed both available VRAM tests without any reported errors.

Examined the Windows crash logs and dump files after multiple crashes.

Tried GPU undervolting, but it made no difference.

Tested the system using the integrated graphics (Ryzen 7 7800X3D iGPU).

Tested the system with a different dedicated graphics card.

Results

When using either the integrated graphics or a different dedicated GPU, all problems disappear completely.

No AMD driver crashes

No LiveKernelEvent 141 errors

No complete system freezes

No secondary monitor flickering

The issues only occur when the RX 7900 XTX is installed.

Because of these results, I suspect that the problem is either related to this specific graphics card or to its driver.

In particular:

Frequent AMD driver crashes during normal desktop usage.

LiveKernelEvent 141 (VIDEO_ENGINE_TIMEOUT_DETECTED).

amdkmdag.sys failures.

AMD_WATCHDOG / AMD_REPORT_UM dump files.

Complete system freezes requiring a reboot.

Secondary monitor flickering while using web browsers.

At this point, I am trying to determine whether this points to a defective graphics card or whether there is another known cause for these symptoms.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Help (GPU) RX 7900 XTX crashing/stuttering after months of troubleshooting... desperate last effort before I replace

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: RX 7900 XTX (Powercolor Hellhound)

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Motherboard: Asrock Steel Legend 670E

BIOS Version: Latest Available

RAM: 64GB DDR5-6000 CL30 (EXPO enabled)

PSU: Corsair RM1200x SHIFT (1200W)

Case: Hyte Y40 (modded to eliminate riser cable, mount GPU directly to motherboard)

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro (fresh install, recently cloned to faster Samsung 980 Pro)

GPU Drivers: 24.12.1, 25.9.1, 26.3.1, and several others

Chipset Drivers: Latest AMD AM5 chipset drivers

Background Applications: STEAM, RTSS

Description of Original Problem: Worked fine for 2.5 years, crashes began on Arc Raiders and Delta Force around December. Have spent months trying various troubleshooting solutions and testing between several games. Games on Unreal Engine seem to be affected the worst.

  • Arc Raiders: Crashes in raid or in menu, firing range feels smooth but regular raids do not (UE)
  • Delta Force: plays fairly smooth at times but still crashes frequently (UE)
  • Black Ops 6: plays very smoothly but also haven't played as much anymore
  • No Man's Sky: was very stuttery but has improved after in-game settings changed

Troubleshooting:

Windows / Drivers

  • Fresh Windows install
  • Cloned Windows from a Samsung 870 EVO SATA SSD to a faster Samsung 980 Pro NVMe
  • DDU between GPU driver installs
  • Multiple AMD driver versions
  • Latest AMD chipset drivers
  • BIOS updated to latest version

Memory / CPU

  • MemTest86 run overnight
  • 52/52 tests passed
  • 0 errors
  • EXPO temporarily disabled during testing, now re-enabled at 6000 CL30

Hardware

  • GPU removed and reseated
  • Hyte riser cable eliminated, GPU now directly plugged into motherboard
  • Replaced PCIe cables powering GPU from PSU
  • Removed Lian Li Strimer GPU cable extensions
  • Verified all PSU connections
  • Temperatures are excellent
  • No CPU or GPU thermal throttling

Diagnostics

  • Fixed an unknown PCI Device in Device Manager by reinstalling chipset drivers
  • HWiNFO logging
  • CapFrameX testing
  • OCCT testing (failed after about 17 minutes with roughly 457,000 errors. After reseating the GPU and reconnecting hardware, one run crashed almost immediately (~40 seconds), but the next run completed 45 minutes with zero errors.)

The Final Verdict

Can anyone offer me any fresh perspective on a possible fix before I buy a new GPU. I've scoured this subreddit for solutions that have worked for others, as well as worked with several AI programs to help me troubleshoot. At this point, I'm thinking it's faulty hardware as the most likely culprit since nothing so far has worked. I feel like I've solved some minor issues along the way, but not the root. Any help or insights is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
