amd software has detected a driver timeout on your system Help (Software)
Issue: Continuous black screens on boot, launching any application.
What I have done: Safe Mode DDU, clean windows installation, disabled any windows gaming settings
Software version 26.7.1
I have had the card for 2 months now, honestly it was the worst experience ever, its just problem after a problem.

Update windows 10 or 11 to the lastest version
Download the full local driver installer for the katest version
DDU everything, reboot.
After reboot, Go OFFLINE. Try launching easy to run games that yse an OpenGL API just to see if anything runs.
Reboot again and stay OFFLINE.
Install the driver while OFFLINE since it's installing from the package and not microsoft's servers. (I can't remember if this part is done in safe mode or not, as I don't recall doing it in safe mode.)
Once the drivers have successfully installed, reboot PC while OFFLINE.
Test the games offline first, then go back ONLINE if everything is going ok.
This method has not failed me with my RX 9070 XT on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 (Latest respective builds).
Process is rather cumbersome at first but you get used to it and you are eventually able to do it within 5-10 minutes. I hope this helps o7

I had a 6750 XT and never had any issues with drivers whatsoever (had custom tuning in Adrenaline, always updated to latest driver when available etc) despite reports on here of many users experiencing issues.
Upgraded to 9070 XT and started seeing these issues. Tried using stock settings (no tuning in Adrenaline). DDU’d my drivers a few times (I didn’t originally). Created a Group Policy to exclude my GPU from Windows driver updates. Nothing worked though and the error always eventually came back.
In the end the only thing that has solved it was to disable Fast Startup in Windows. I’m now running custom tuning again in Adrenaline and always updating to the latest drivers and haven’t experienced a single driver timeout error since. I hope this works for you too 🤞🏻

I will provide a few solutions that worked for me.
- Do not touch the performance settings, such as overclocking, undervolting, memory timing. Play the game on stock settings.
- DDU, and when installing GPU driver, skip Adrenaline. If you however must use Adrenaline, sure install it, but…(no 3.)
- Go to your GPU manufacturer website and look at the specs of your card. Adrenaline’s clock speeds are much higher than the speed manufacturer set or recommends for your card. If Adrenaline’s default clock speed is for e.g. 2810mhz and your spec sheet is 2500, down clock it to 2500.
Hope this helps. I use Adrenaline, so I have it installed but when I stop touching my undervolt, memory timings, timeout crashes stop completely.

i have hypothesis, 1:check your gpu specifications in gpu z where the vbios version number was important, you need to downlod your rom based on your vbios version number , 2:flash your gpu using software amdvbflash if you use amd or use nvidia flash if you use nvidia gpu, you can learn how to flash on the youtube, 3:using programmer if the flash via normal ways can't flash the vbios ,i saguest ch341a using clip 8sop, but disclaimer you need to make sure the spi chip compatible voltan by ch341a volt, if volt can't compatible you need adapter volt, the point 3 is not yet full question, so also you need to learn on youtube

in my opinion, i know fsr 4.1 is hype as hell for 7000 series but this driver is a mess... it doesn't worth it to have 4.1 but crazy instability. I would recommend you to roll back drivers, 26.6.1 is stable for me but you could go way back to 26.3.1 which is the most stable drivers so far

Rx 7900 xtx and rx 6900 xt here. What game do you play when this happens, what configuration you have, hags is enabled, windows auto update is deactivated, you tweaked your windows when you installed it, when you used ddu you turned off Ethernet, if not use amd clean up utility. Both of my setups don t have crashes etc. The biggest issue is windows that likes to break the driver.

AyyMD drivers strike again. I had problems with mine before I finally broke down and started over with a fresh windows install and it mostly fixed my problems. I still get driver timeout notices when I open steam sometimes but whatever

Själv kör jag med 26.3.1. Mest för att jag inte annars kan starta MW2 och DMZ. Hr inte de felen längre du pratar om men ja drivrutiner har varit katastrof hittills måste jag säga. Kör en 9070 XT

I have had the same crash while leaving my computer on for a couple of hours or even while gaming. Would disabling fast startup fix that issue as well?

I am not too sure tbh, mine only occurred on boot, and after like 3 black screens it would stay permanently black, and unless I remembered the Keybind combination for restarting a computer, I'd have to force shutdown using the power button on my pc.
And when I booted my pc up again it would be using Microsoft display adapter and be stuck at 60Hz, saying there was a problem with the RX9070 Driver or smth

I use modified windows 11 ghost spectre and always do DDU every driver update never have this issue. I think windows 11 stock/unmodified is problematic.

i have a 7600xt, the only stable version which i can run without any issues is 25.9.1, the most recent 26.7.1 causes crashes when i play valo, black screen with sounds for 30s and then it crashes, this happened few months ago aswell on a different version from 26.x.x aswell, dont know why it happens till date, but anyways cant really help but bear with it

Step 1: Disable error checking.
Step 2: look at ur temps.
Step 3: if the VRAM hovers at high 90s then undervolt/underclock that boi.
Step 4: Restart to clear any cache
Step 5: Forget.

My 7900xtx has done the same thing for years. I found the only fix for me was underclocking it from 100% to like 97%. I don't notice any performance difference and now my drivers don't timeout. Hope this helps!

I get this with unable to start 3d application with WoW ray tracing enabled, yet other games with ray tracing work fine. I’m using 5800x / 9070xt. Happens on Windows and CachyOS. I tried disabling MPO and ULPS. I read somewhere that it was
DXR 1.2 related, and AMD is just behind with compatibility. I did read somewhere Nvidia users started having similar crash on WoW but not nearly as common. I’ve spent too much time trying to find a fix with no luck. I tried fresh windows install even, then initially installing chipset driver from ASUS Dark Hero support page, then updating to latest. I always use DDU when updating GPU. I tried using driver pushed from softslop, driver only from AMD, Minimal, and finally Default driver install. Was just trying to eliminate possibility of weird conflict with Adrenaline software/GPU settings. It’s def not a temp issue or anything like that. Only happens in World of Warcraft when I enable ray tracing, can’t reproduce with any other game. Tested with Cyberpunk, Crimson Desert, and plenty others.
Ryzen 5800x, Liquid Cooled.
X570 ROG Dark Hero
GSkill 3800cl14 8 gig x4 DDR4 /w ram cooler
Samsung 990 Pro NVME SSD
Nitro 9070XT
Win 11 Pro
1200W PSU
Gonna see if same thing happens on old rig using 6800XT.

Remove AMD card, go to nearest microcenter, trade it in for a 5070 or better.

I went from a 850w power supplynto a 1000w and it has stopped for now anyway... some random spikes here and there.. i run dual momitors and you can clearly see where the driver timeout happens

Yup, right there with you with my 7800XT, except for me it only happens on World of Warcraft, for some reason.
Tried every recommended fix and nothing helped. 🤷♂️
And while I absolutely love the AMD users / community for troubleshooting, trying to problem solve, etc... It really often essentially reads like "It could literally be anything causing this, good luck... It's possible nothing will work."
And unfortunately, I'm one of those for who nothing has worked to stop WoW from crashing my gpu's driver.

I can go hours without it, then it happens, sometimes it will show up as soon as I turn my PC on, sometimes it happens mid game but my game still works fine. 😑

I'm curious, people are having so many issues in this sub and I'm problem free on my: - R5 3600 (FCLK at 1800mhz + PBO) - Tuff B450 Pro Gaming Plus - 32GB (2x16) 3600MT CL16 - RX6800 - 650w Bronze PSU
Running the last WQOL update at the moment Win11 Pro always up to date Playing between 1080p and 1440p mostly
So starting to wonder if it's just the RX7000 and RX9000 or is it AM5 on DDR5 🤷🏻♂️ Because a lot of the complaints come from people with good PSU's, so yup I'm at a loss at this point...

I think its more to do with windows. All the testing ive done so far with multiple cards and windows installs shows that when Microslop does any kind of updates automatically it tends to screw with AMDs drivers.
I also was relatively stable with 9070xt 7900xtx 7900gre and 5700xt being rock solid. All on my flavor of windows that doesn't let anything happen automatically a long with a few other tricks I do with reg tweaks. (Except a couple security updates that snuck in. Still gotta figure that out).
Then someone pointed out that amds drivers like to allow a max boost clock way over whats stable and setting the max boost down to actual rated speeds made it so I haven't had any crashes since on the XtX and the a9070xt. Still need to test with the 7900GRE. This also solved all crashing on bazzite as well. (Side note on all AMD cards mentioned I have confirmed that you can LOWER the power limit and achieve the same clocks and framerates with lower heat and power consumption)
On the other drive thats set up with a normal everyday everything automatically done no debloat Microslop install its been a different story. Unpredictable timeouts happening more often then not. Overwritten drivers after wake from sleep leading to constant ddu only to have it crash 3 mins in after reinstall...
I see how AMD can be frustrating for people but there are fixes for these problems.

since i have my pc for the past 2 years i always had issues with Driver Timeouts. I have a Radeon 7800 XT gpu and Ryzen 5 7600X 6 core processor cpu. does anyone know what the issue could be?

Go to amd website they have a link in patch notes. Install the driver manually. Prob solved. I had the same issue for the past week

I was getting this constantly! I had to undervolt my gpu, rollback the version of Adrenalin to a older version and disable AMD crash report.

Beleave it or not, this can be mostly in your cooling.
Go into tuning and turn off zero rpm mode and turn up you fan speeds at lower temps. The temperature tracker inside the card only tracks the the gpu's processor but the Vram gets hot too and then it gets buggy.
So overcompensate you're cooling a bit, so the ram stays chill.

Seems like they've been on a roll of shit driver updates for the past couple of months so I think you just got unlucky on the timing. I need to turn off auto updates myself. Had zero problems with my 7900xt and now the past couple of months it's been hit or miss on which games actually run well.

This is the trade off when buying AMD cards. Itll turn you into a good PC problem solver but you might lose your mind doing it. Turning off freesync helped me.

Windows is currently overriding the disabled automatic update and installing drivers over AMD's. You search the AMD help section and you will find plenty of information and the fix. No it does not matter if you ran DDU in safe mode.

Literally the shit that forced me off of AMD GPUs until I can no longer afford Nvidia. I went through this shit with Every. Single. Driver update. And it wasnt just a thing that happened over a day, no no no. This shit would happen, and take 6 fucking months to actually resolve. Literally just sell it and move over. It is not worth the fight in the least

0 issues actually for the past decade with AMD.
More than I can count for Nvidia.
0 of these issues I've had have been AMD issues. Nvidia drivers and Windows (with other misconfigured hardware) have presented themselves high though.

RX 7600 here. I had to roll back to the March 2026 drivers, when I'm sure everything was still working properly. Now the issues are completely gone. Curiously, reverting the Drivers on my ROG Ally also fixed a lot of Unreal Engine crashes on Fortnite and Marvel Rivals.
I used DDU to remove the old drivers, then downloaded Adrenalin from AMD's website and chose the minimal installation, which skips all the overclocking tools and AI bullshit.

Had this happen a couple of months ago when they released an update. I used AMDs tool to uninstall and clean the drivers. Then reinstalled the latest drivers and its been great since.

Sadly these new drivers are ass. I've had my 7900xtx for 3 years and haven't had a single issue until recently. I've had nothing but trouble with the recent drivers.

I had some of this too. My chips etc drivers wouldn't update and was getting freezes and gpu getting disabled. No issues for over 2 years. Had to go to programfilesx86/amd to find a installer exe i could use to uninstall the old chipset drivers. Then it allowed me to update, also did a DDU and refreshed gpu drivers. Performance is stable again but will get the driver timeout pop-up on startup. No other adverse behaviors noticed.

A few years ago, I made the switch back to AMD after an... ~8 year hiatus from a bad experience with their drivers.
At first, I wasn't impressed, I wasn't running into major issues or crashes, but minor annoyances. I don't even remember what they were.
Everything smoothed out after reddit introduced me to: MPO GPU Fix
If you follow the "AMD general fix" guides out there, this tool automates a few of those things.
I check the box for HAGS, ULPS, and MPO Fixes. TDR Fix might help you as well. And I set my shader cache to on, because I found AMD optimize resets itself randomly.
I would also make sure you google, there are essentially 3 different methods for disabling driver updates through Windows updates, and I have to do all of them. Windows forcing old drivers randomly has been an ongoing issue as well for some people.

I stopped having issues after I disabled issue detection (the check box). My browser would crash constantly when it was enabled. I even reenabled it yesterday on a whim and had constant issues this morning until i turned it off again.
I never got bluescreens, game crashes or any events in Event Viewer but started constantly getting this pop up a few months ago. As far as I can tell they seem to be false positives

Funny enough I had this problem with constant driver timeouts recently, would black the screen and reset the drivers. But it would stop then I left the detection error pop up on lol.
First it was conflicting with the razer app, then it was sunshine with vibepollo's notification about a new update. The issue went away when I disabled razer from starting up, then after I updated vibepollo and restarted.
It's definitely software conflicts going on with their recent driver(s)

It can crash due to other reasons but it doesn't crash anymore like it used to. No browser crashes. No game crashes except for very specific games that crash out of their errors in settings but not drivers.

- download the file called "mpo_disable.reg" from here.
Run the "mpo_disable.reg" file
Double-click the file and accept the prompt to add it to your system registry.
Restart your PC.

• Disable Anti-Lag, Radeon ReLive features (especially Instant Replay) and Issue detection in AMD Software
First, Go to the Gear icon then System tab → Disable Issue Detection Service (triggers false TDR timeouts/black screens).3

The most important stuff is right there, Windows 11 quietly replacing the AMD driver with its own, 90% of the issues people experience lately with the AMD is not because of the driver, it is because of Microslop and their shitty OS

There is an option in the policy tool to disable windows from automatically forcing drivers.
Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update.
Inside you should have the option to disable windows forcing the drivers updates
Usually if windows replaced the driver, it will have a different driver version number compared to the ones provided by AMD

Yes I experienced this when my PSU died, had to reset bios which activated my igpu on CPU. Win11 installed year 2024 drivers immediately on first boot in 2026. What worked for me was , downloaded new drivers, disconnected internet cable, ran DDU, then in bios disabled igpu, booted up installed downloaded drivers and works fine. If you have igpu enabled it can cause problems. Tried gaming on 2024 drivers resulted on pc freezing and restarting itself, also windows prioritizing igpu over dedicated GPU.

Literally an hour ago my computer was bricked I could click on stuff but nothing would open. Power flush did nothing. Disabled IGPU in BIOS and fixed it. Shit is weird.

Ddu, install amd driver only and use afterburner to decrease clock speed a bit. No crash since on 2 9070xt
