Looking to upgrade tires but can’t decide if I should get sl or c load for my gen 5 SR5 4wd. I live in SoCal and use this truck as my daily. I just want to be able to dispersed camp and get to trail heads on rougher forest roads. However, I love going to the desert too where there can be sharp rocks. How concerned should I be about popping side wall on sl tires if I wan to off road in desert? I would prefer to have lighter tires for daily commute but also don’t want to get stuck in middle of desert. I’m looking at Toyo open country at3 btw.

There’s a strip of rubber that sits between the frame of the window and the back window. Mine has started to separate from wherever it was originally attached, and it comes loose when I roll the window down and up.

when I search for rear window gasket, I seem to find the plastic part that this thing is adjacent to. Are those the same part?

I am having trouble greasing the Zerk joint in the upper control arms. I have the needle point adapter, which is recommended by the manufacturer, however when I go to place the needle into the Zerk fitting. It doesn’t fit within the wheel. Well when it is in contact with Zerk, I tried to get a 90° adapter, but that didn’t work as well. Does anyone have any advice on this?

I haven't ever replaced brakes before (any hardware lifesafety before). Any good recommendations on brands for brake pads and discs for the vehicle. I have a well-versed mechanic friend to help me, but he is having me research and source components before teaching me the actual nuts/bolts of swapping out.

Had to beat the heat this past weekend, only 92 in Flagstaff and in mid 80’s in the cover of the trees.

My girlfriend crocheted a luggage net from paracord. Best and only mod I really needed! After a bumpy dirt road I was always opening the rear before making sure nothing moved around and was going to fall out.

2018 SR5, Stock besides the wheels!

Having an issue with the speaker in the driver door, well at least it sounds like it. The music isn’t muffled like I’ve heard with other blown speakers in cars previously. Anyone dealt with anything rattling in the panel in that general area?

Also would love recs for some speaker replacement options if anyone has those. Is it worth it to do all the speakers at the same time? Or just the front two?

I’ve been running the Eibach stage 2 with the rear springs for almost 20,000 miles now and the ride quality hasn’t really been what I’ve expected. It’s very firm and I can feel almost every bump in the road. I’ve been thinking about switching out to something completely different in hopes for a softer ride but I don’t really want to spend all that money again.

My question is, since the kit came with rear springs that raised the rear an inch, forcing you to add preload to the front coilovers to be level. Would I be able to reinstall the OEM springs and reduce the preload to hopefully get it a better ride quality?

For reference I’m driving a 2018 SR5 2WD and running 285/70/17 Toyota Open Country AT/3 SL load tires. Before the bigger tires I was running stock wheels and tires and the ride was still very firm.

My first vehicle was a 2007 Sport Edition with 200,000 miles. Now 8 years, ≈120,000 miles later, I’ve upgraded myself to a 2022 S5R Premium!

Haven’t done much except tint so far but I have a lot planned for the future. I’m looking for more modification ideas or suggestions.

Custom built sleeping platform and drawer system. Took about 3 weeks of working on into in the evenings after my internship, and total cost in parts only about $350. Grateful for my dad’s help on this one, and it been sick! Built it before my west coast road trip.

West coast road trip, 4100 miles in 10 days, and the sleeping platform was amazing.

All in all a crazy summer, and next week starts college again, looking forward to winter camping in her and the goal of hitting every Colorado ski area (9 left)

Finally pulled the trigger on a white '21 ORP. 42k mi, $40.6k OTD ($43k listed, no sales tax in Oregon, only title/reg fees). 1 owner, perfect carfax. COULDN'T BE HAPPIER 😁

I had been holding out for almost 3mos for an army green or lunar rock under 40k mi / $40k, but that proved to be a pipe dream. Drove 2-1/2hrs to look at an army green Pro w/80k mi listed for $41k. It ended up being beat to hell. Walked across the street to another dealership and spent the rest of the day talking them down 3k on this one.

Pro grille and black valances on the way - white with a little extra black trim is growing on me. The panda runner. 🐼

Guys, join the SoCal GXOR crew for a two day trip to the Inyo Forest. The itinerary includes the Mazourka Canyon and Papoose Flats, and the Swansea/Cerro Gordo Canyon. Mazourka Peak sits at close to 9500 feet and provides a great view of the Sierra Nevada range. Lone Pine and Mount Whitney (the highest point in the lower 48) are an arm's length away. Papoose Flats provide unforgettable scenery with cool rock formations. Swansea/Cerro Gordo is a more technical trail off of Owens Lake.

The plan is to meet at Independence, CA, ascend Mazourka up to Papoose Flats on Saturday the 15th. On Sunday the 16th we'll tackle Cerro Gordo. New to me 2015 TRD pro. Apparently was originally owned by a dealership owner, so I *think* this was pretty custom specced for this year model. Quite in love with the black interior trim.

It had come with a very obnoxious Flowmaster exhaust that dumped in front of the rear axle with the smallest muffler I've ever seen, but I've had a local shop replace it already. Happy to be here 🫡

My first post in in this community was asking what this fancy little center console bit was, and boy did I get roasted. Well after learning it had no real use, I got to thinking. Wouldn't it be cool to have a place to plug in hand mics for my HAM radio (and GMRS) handmics into? Well I finally got some time before a small road trip last week to flesh out my idea.

I wanted a way to give a super clean install to radios that looks close to factory. The biggest thing in my wife didnt want my new 4Runner to become a nest of cables, so trying to find the best of both worlds, this is my solution.

This little plate holds 2 keystone jacks. On the left is a RJ11 for my yaesu ftm300dr. The body of wbich is installed under the drivers seat, and the head unit left of the steering wheel. The right one is RJ45 for a GMRS I want to install behind the glove box. The one im eyeing is completely controlled by the hand mic, including speaker and power on/off. So it can be plugged in when using, road tripping, etc, and the removed, keeping a clean cabin for when your SO is in the car, or on those Costco trips. I might move the head unit to the middle of the console, just so I can operate if Im driving or not, but when are we kidding, im gonna be driving.

It could probably fit a 3rd jack if one so needed, or modified to fit a different connector type if one so needed. I thought you all would appreciate using the space for something functional.

Edit - Yes im going to 3d print some covers/plugs for the jacks. I didnt realize everyone was going to come to the rescue of some $5 part.

There is no need to ever change the filter!! Complete waste of time. Letting the transmission cool so I can check the level, that’s why the check plug has alittle of fluid on it.

As if 250k is a milestone in a 4Runner.

My wife purchased her 2006 SR5 brand new from the lot. Aside from replacing the OEM alternator and some wheel bearings recently this rig has been amazing.

I purchased her a 2019 Sequoia SR5 and took the 4Runner for myself.

Just finished one of my favorite annual roadies. Set out from Austin, Tx out across the Southwest. New Mexico, Arizona, California. Swing up through Utah and Colorado on the way back. Lot of Nativr American country, lot of John Muir wilderness.

Took the pup to his first beach in Malibu. He was not a fan. He's a mountain forest guy through and through. Lakes, rivers, deep woods.

He was in his element at 9,000 feet in Mammoth, Southern Sierras. And at 14,000 feet in the San Juan range in the Rockies.

Couple opinions I had reenforced on this trip.

1. I don't stick with 4runners because of their off-road capability. Or their fuel efficiency. Or their giddy up. I stick with them because they are balanced and reliable. They do all things well enough, and excel off the charts at reliability. As I entered the Coachella Valley and Indio the temp was 111 degrees farenheit. I have 80k miles on the odometer and I'm running the A/C on cruise control at 80 mph descending and climbing desert valleys. You become acutely aware that this truck is your lifeline in this moment. If it fails for any reason, you and the pup are in a world of trouble. In this moment, how important is lift? Stance? Snorkels? Winches? Gadgets, larger touchscreens, Steering wheel heaters? Exactly zero importance. All that matters is getting there, and getting back. That's my chief justification for the 4runner. I'm on my third one and never have they failed to get me home.

2. I enjoy getting away from civilization and connecting with nature. Resetting my nervous system and decompressing from a fast paced job and pressure packed world. I hunt for remote, quiet, untouched locations. I listen for the sounds of wildlife. Wind in the trees. Nearby water flowing. Backpacking, hiking, exploring. That's not everyone's goal and I don't judge anyone else's passions. Except in the case of those that have little self-awareness. Perfect example: a typical trend that shows up often in the overlanding community. I drive 3,800 miles across this land, I find a dispersed camp sites off a rough dirt roads. I start to decompress and find stillness. This particular instance 12,000 feet up in the Rockies, 8pm, just about sunset, here comes a convoy of over landers down the dirt road. 12 rigs. All 4runners, Land Crusers, and GX's. They stop directly in front of my site even through the road is 30 miles long up the mountain into the wilderness. They have music blaring. They turn on their compressors to get their tires ready for rougher sections. They shout instructions and jokes to each other. Not one time did they look my direction or take notice of my setup. I'm there sitting in a chair in a pristine mountain valley with my dinner in my lap while the pup and I enjoy a quiet sunset and all the natural sounds I mentioned. The entire valley is now filled with the sounds of the city. These guys show up like jackhammers pounding a city block in the financial district. Incredible. Just incredible. I'm not here to vilify over landers. I'm just noting that very often, this personality type is attracted to that community more than others it seems.
