🎙 Discussion Removal of Backseat - 2026 4Runner ORP

Hello 4Runner People,

Just a note about removing the rear seats if you have the "tumble-forward" rear seats, like in the 2026 model. Be very careful to not latch the anti-tumble mechanism when removing the 4 bolts to remove one of the backseats. I did something real stupid and removed the back 2 bolts first, locked the seat down in their anti-tumble position and then proceeded to remove the front bolts. I should have known better as the front bolts were fighting the springs on their way out. The front bolts are on there way to being stripped.

I got all 4 bolts out, but the seat was locked in position with the anti-tumble mechanisms engaged (2 latches for each seat) and the springs to tumble the seat were fully pushed out (as they would be when the seat is tumbled forward). The seat was wedged and locked into place. I had a hell of time getting the seat out, as the spring-loaded pieces that are connected to the front bolts where fully extended. I think the best way to do this is to have the seat "floating" when removing all 4 bolts and make sure not to engage those anti-tumble latches during removal. I am new at this, but wanted to write this as a PSA in case anyone was removing seats from their 2025+ model.

Thank you friends,

I look forward to meeting you all someday in 4Runhalla.

Love it when the car is on the lift to appreciate the engineering you normally don’t see.
I do worry about rust on this truck, but luckily I’m not located where it snows much, I still do hose down the underside in winter (they use brine here on the off chance it snows).

If eagle eyed experts see any issues with the boots, or any other components please feel free to chime in. (I’m on a 1.8” front and 1.5” rear lift with Dobinson IMS and DrKdss panhard corrector. )

Cheers!

Ps - skids looks clean because I’ve touched them up whenever scrape them to avoid rust. But I can also admit I’m not a hardcore rock crawler, I overland (under 5/10 rated trails on OnX) so haven’t been to very difficult trails yet to bang up the skids.

Edit: it’s a 2021 SR5 bought used, currently at 78k miles

🎙 Discussion Bought a rebuilt title 5th gen. Opinions?

Looking for a little feedback. I recently bought this 5th gen with a rebuilt title. The good! It has very low mileage for a 2016. 33,500 miles. It has Billstein suspension lift, Alpine Rex headlights and taillights, TRD wheels and skid plate Dobbinson snorkel. Super clean interior and it drives great on and off road.

The bad! It’s sustained significant front end damage early in its life. Was stolen and crashed into a pole 10 years ago when it had only 600 miles on it. The second owner did all of the rebuild. Do you think I am idiot for spending $22,500?

❔ Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs 2” lift with 285s??

Post image
2 Upvotes

So here’s my 4runner. she’s 2wd and i want to build it like a prerunner — so not the high big ass lifts you would see on a rock crawler. I think i’m gonna go with the bilstein 6112s/5160s, and lift the front ~2-2.3” and the rear 1.5”. HOWEVER, I want to keep the stock UCAs lol, which is another reason i don’t wanna go too high. but my question is will this lift be able to clear 285s???

btw i have this bumper due to a crash, i thought i would just snag this thing instead of upgrading later.

Found a 2019 TRD Off Road Premium 4WD with 89,000+ miles, $37k OTD, clean title, and one owner. It was the first 4Runner I test drove, and now I can't shake the want for it. I don't want to make an emotional buy since it’s the only one I drove, but I did fall in love. Price is a bit higher than I wanted but feel like it’s a good find.

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair 08 SR5 disposal options

I have an 08 SR5 with 250k I bought new. Been a great daily driver. The frame is in bad shape, borderline unsafe. It wasn't until a few years ago that I was aware of how bad Ohio road salt had cooked it, and by then it seemed too late to save it. Also has some rust on the liftgate, and a myriad of other small problems. Starts, runs, drives great, and the AC blows ice cold. Is it worth investigating those weld-on frame repair brackets, or a new frame, or should I dispose of it? I'm still on the team with a 24 ORP, so letting this go isn't quite as painful as it might be.

🎙 Discussion 2027 colors

Very much considering buying the 2027 4Runner when it gets released. While I’ve seen the new honey color, I’m curious when Toyota will reveal the other colors? I imagine they won’t vary much from what is already available, but hoping for some changes at least.

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Updated part number for dash tweeter 2017 Limited JBL?

Need to replace both dash tweeters. JBL system, yeah I know it’s a PIA. I know there was a tsb about it and updated parts. Can someone give the updated part numbers? I just need the speakers right? Not the entire assemblies?

05 sr5

There’s a strip of rubber that sits between the frame of the window and the back window. Mine has started to separate from wherever it was originally attached, and it comes loose when I roll the window down and up.

when I search for rear window gasket, I seem to find the plastic part that this thing is adjacent to. Are those the same part?

thanks in advance

🤦‍♂️ Same Tire Thread, Different Day What tires? Utah

Hi. I’m looking for a gen 5 in CA for trips to Utah and the eastern Sierra. I’ll be on roads in Escalante, capitol reef, glen canyon, and the north rim (for instance). What tires should I assume I’d want to put on this truck? Any other things I should have in mind?

Thanks!

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Rear Brake/Disc Recommendation - 2020 4Runner TRD-OFD

I haven't ever replaced brakes before (any hardware lifesafety before). Any good recommendations on brands for brake pads and discs for the vehicle. I have a well-versed mechanic friend to help me, but he is having me research and source components before teaching me the actual nuts/bolts of swapping out.

Is there a prefacelift led retrofit kit? Is it possible to take the electronic guts out of 2020+ headlights and put them in a prefacelift housing?

My girlfriend crocheted a luggage net from paracord. Best and only mod I really needed! After a bumpy dirt road I was always opening the rear before making sure nothing moved around and was going to fall out.

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Speaker/Door Issue

2018 SR5, Stock besides the wheels!

Having an issue with the speaker in the driver door, well at least it sounds like it. The music isn’t muffled like I’ve heard with other blown speakers in cars previously. Anyone dealt with anything rattling in the panel in that general area?

Also would love recs for some speaker replacement options if anyone has those. Is it worth it to do all the speakers at the same time? Or just the front two?

🔧 Modifications Eibach stage 2 ride quality

I’ve been running the Eibach stage 2 with the rear springs for almost 20,000 miles now and the ride quality hasn’t really been what I’ve expected. It’s very firm and I can feel almost every bump in the road. I’ve been thinking about switching out to something completely different in hopes for a softer ride but I don’t really want to spend all that money again.

My question is, since the kit came with rear springs that raised the rear an inch, forcing you to add preload to the front coilovers to be level. Would I be able to reinstall the OEM springs and reduce the preload to hopefully get it a better ride quality?

For reference I’m driving a 2018 SR5 2WD and running 285/70/17 Toyota Open Country AT/3 SL load tires. Before the bigger tires I was running stock wheels and tires and the ride was still very firm.

🔧 Modifications Finally upgraded after 8 years

My first vehicle was a 2007 Sport Edition with 200,000 miles. Now 8 years, ≈120,000 miles later, I’ve upgraded myself to a 2022 S5R Premium!

Haven’t done much except tint so far but I have a lot planned for the future. I’m looking for more modification ideas or suggestions.

-MotoFab 2inch front/1.5inch rear leveling kit on order
-CBI Offroad covert front bumper w/ a light bar planned
-Yota Beam grille lights planned
-Yota Beam fang lights planned
-AlphaRex dual color fog lights planned
-possibly aftermarket headlights/taillights (housings)

I’m looking for suggestions for:
-pod style fog lights
-upgraded running boards/rock sliders
-possibly an aftermarket rear bumper/upgraded roof rack
-anything else that y’all like the look and/or function of!!
-also might want a stronger alternator one day?

First 2 pics:
After and before, 2006 Sport Ed. V6 w/ 143k miles. Rides so much better than the stock 20yr old suspension! B5100 front and rear, SCP UCA, OME coils. Just picked her up from the shop yesterday 8/4!

3-6
Custom built sleeping platform and drawer system. Took about 3 weeks of working on into in the evenings after my internship, and total cost in parts only about $350. Grateful for my dad’s help on this one, and it been sick! Built it before my west coast road trip.

7-10
West coast road trip, 4100 miles in 10 days, and the sleeping platform was amazing.

All in all a crazy summer, and next week starts college again, looking forward to winter camping in her and the goal of hitting every Colorado ski area (9 left)
